Does anyone else notice that they get treated differentedly because of their usernames? I mean, I catch a lot of flack for mine. If my name was fuzzykittenshark231 and I had an avatar of a fluffy bunny, I'm sure I could get away with a lot more instead of being called out for having a "throbbingego, hurr hurr." I know what my username is. I chose it. Repeating my username to me is not witty.

It was even worse when I had my Freud avatar, and people thought everything I was saying related back to one of Freud's theories. I picked it for irony with my name, which I picked in honor of my blog at the time. Not because I'm into early psychoanalyst theory.

Anyway, what do you think that people think of you, because of your username?

Not a lot. It takes me about 4 minutes to explain.

I think that they initially think I'm some 10 year old kid. Who loves Pan cakes.

Look at my username...you'd think i'd get some abuse, but I don't. People abbrieviate it to SSS, that makes me feel cool. Yep, i'm that easily pleased.

My really username that i use is Figment. I just used 0p3rati0n for this just to mix things up. For me on both names no one thinks of me different. I they argue and agree with my just like any 'normal' person would. But a lot of people call me fig or figgy for short. Which I'm fine with. So I'm just treated like a really human being. That is until you find out Figment stands of A figment of your imagination and you find out that I'm actually part of your imagination :P

At the OP: Probably that I'm the craziest of everyone! (Which is true)
And that I am a sort of large rabbit (probably less true)

Pedantically at the title: What's in a name? 5 letters and a space.

That I am a cynical bastard who despises humanity and thinks they are nothing more than robots; pre-programmed to live out their lives with out any real control or individuality?

What do people see in a Wizzie!?

I only took this name from an MMO when I made a Wizard cross classed with a Ranger.
So too me it's that character but everyone else, no idea.

Everyone who sees my username for the first time thinks I'm a dude, but then they sees my profile, and my picture on my profile and corrects there mistake.

Most people probably just see the name as a name.

People are assholes to me sometimes, and some actually enunciate my username (always makes me laugh).

Other than that, some of my friends call me "Junior Cheeseburger"(cheeseburger for short) because of the letters. It's actually a good nickname.

Actually, just four letters. I asked "What's in a name?" not "What's in "a name?"" I don't think most people would count the article as a part of the subject.

my username never really affects me... if I'm using it on a online multiplayer game (I use this username for all interweb things) I may get the occasional "hey I like your username", but thats about it.

edit: oh, and people generally call me "Sim" for short... I'm putting it on record now, I do not like that. I am NOT some wierd character from a certain ridiculously popular series of games that talks funny. You can't pronounce it? well TOUGH! muahahahahhaha!

I actually liked the freud avatar. I thought you had disappeared off the face of the earth when you changed it.

but i don't really get called out for my username, mainly because there's nothing to it.

EDIT: who gets username and avatar mixed up? *face/desk*

I liked it too, but I got so much shit for it. It just wasn't worth it.

It's like getting a really awesome tattoo on your forehead. No matter how awesome it really is, there's always going to be someone in the room cracking jokes about it.

The way it's read is easily changed just by changing the inflection on the 'a', so it can be taken either way. And as I said, it was purely out of pedanticity (Is that a real word? Oh well, it is now) which itself is caused by rather large amounts of pure boredom xD

That I'm infamous, and I scam people.

To me though, you'll always be that Freud guy who did the Yahtzee thread on WarCry.

Yeah, I know. I just thought the most comedically banal thing to do would be to correct you.

I frown upon people who judge others by a username, they made their choice and they had every right to. It's like judging a book by its cover.

I don't think my user name has ever attracted much attention, unless people secretly PM each other about a possible correlation behind my back...

I was hoping for a real freakout too. The reaction I got was, one guy tried to have me baned, and everyone else just kind of sat there saying "no, he's talking about the board game, not Yahtzee." And then I came clean.

You guys ditched me. It would have been so much better if a whole bunch of Escapists went to WarCry to talk about "Yahtzee."

My user name causes people to forget me instantly because they are too stupid to be able to pronounce it in their heads.

Internet rule: always assume you are talking to a dude unless you are presented with unquestionable evidence; chances are its either a 55 year old pedo, or a police officer on a sting operation!

Hope you don't find that offensive, danger of covert cops is enough to keep me on the straight and narrow!

About the only things I tend to get with my name is that people think the primary part of it is one word; 'maxusy' where it is, y'know, maxus Y3K. Other than that nobody's ever really picket at it before or noted it for something.

There was one time where an internet famous dude missed out the 'x' and as such started referring to me as 'mouse' (from the German 'maus' in case you don't follow) but that's like, it.

That I've got another persona. Little do they know that Gilbert Munch is a character I invented and my avatar is Luke Atmey of Phoenix Wright fame. Not at all the same people...
