As for people saying "I know a lot of good ones" Well good for you but do they surpass the 500 000 mark? There are like 2 billion Muslims I think

Let's take a case study.

I live in the UK, a country that is apparently 'swarming with muslims' (in reality they make up around 3% of the population).

I personally know 3 muslims. One is the most gentle and shy person I know. The other two are perfectly normal. None of them have ever tried to force their religion on me whatsoever.

Now move it to the middle-east. According to my muslim friends (I know it's not first person information but it's the best I can get without going there) most muslims respect their wives and are non-violent. Religion is just a very important part of their culture. It's the few extremists that get on the news that ruin it for the rest of them because they get tarred with the same brush.

There are extremist Christians in America who go to to extraodinary lengths to get their way. They force their religion on others and believe that their God is the only true God (2nd commandment anyone?).

So please, don't believe everything fox news says. The vast majority of musilms just want to get on with their lives. Unfortunately when there are 2 billion of you there are always a few bad eggs.

Don't say "Few" because when the Mohammad pictures got up in the news there where mass gathering of Muslims demanding respect in various ways. This also happened in several countries too. Mostly Muslim ones.

Now there was also this book being released in UK and there was also a huge group of Muslims wanting to ban it right away. They where pretty aggressive too and lead to that the book was postponed for a week or two.

Now this pretty much happens every time someone insults them. EVERY time.

I also read quite a bit bad articles on how women are treated down there. If you get raped you pretty much can forget about reporting the men who did it. Seeing that your vote is counted as 1/2 that of a man. Women rarely wins too when it gets to rape crime.

As for Christians forcing others. Well I honestly never heard them doing that of during the past 5 years. I only recall them killing Abortion doctors but that's about it. Which part of world or if it's USA does it happen in?

Also I don't watch Fox nor do I care what they write. I stick to Swedish sources and some other places but not Fox news.

1. All religion is a feeble attempt to explain the unexplained to comfort the sheeple who can't face their own mortality.
2. All religions preach tolerance but none of them practice it.
3. My school has a dress code (Collared shirt, tucked in) I WISH I could wear a normal rascist shirt.

Well, that's a massive generalisation... (I'm not religious by the way...)

gerrymander61:
I am offended by all the people in this thread saying "anti-islam idiots"

I am anti-islam, and i am certainly no idiot. There are many things that are offensive to me and my culture in the way that modern day islam is carried out. Unfortunately, my views are taboo and wrong because people always point to a tiny minority of muslims and say that this is how the religion and culture actually works, when really, their example has been so westernized that any shred of fucked-up islam in them is gone.

Nuke the middle-east

OK, FUCK YOU. Here's the deal, unless you're Pakistani, the way things are carried out in Islam is totally irrelevant to you. There are many good and kind Muslims, I know many of them. PLEASE LEAVE, WE WILL HATE YOU HERE.

...gah, bloody emotions... sorry, I couldn't be bothered to hold up the usual Escapist visage there, I was just to bloody angry. Mods, a nice healthy whack of the banhammer on this ignorant fellow would be nice :P

Personally, I think that all the wars between Christians, Jews and Muslims is depressingly ironic, seeing as they all worship the same bloody book.

~EDIT~

Oh jeez, after re-reading my rant, I realise how Australian I really am... I'm such a bogan :P

Yeah I know lots of muslims too - all of them excellent and incredibly kind people.

There are extremists yes, but there are extremists in every religion - stop taking what the media show you as a basis to judge and entire religion. Fuckin sheep.

Am I Australian enough to make an NZ joke? Better not...
I find Christian extremism to be of the most terrifying kind.

Good old bigotry... well, the kid is in "that age" and if his douchebag dad only knows how to instil halfassed propaganda on him, I'm not surprised. Funny part is how dad will act like a dick because of freedom of speech and all that jazz.

Are you seriously saying that if the new york times drew and published Jesus in an offensive way, thousands of christians wouldn't be offended?

These demonstrations have nowhere near 2 billion participants.

I'll admit that the Muslim extremists are the most batshit insane in the world, they really are a danger. However, the vast majority of muslims are no threat whatsoever. It's like saying because the Chinese government and army viciously oppressed Tibet we should kill all the Chinese.

Firstly... all our parents have alot of say in what we believe. That is until we grow older and learn that they are not neccessarily correct. They are however at that perfect age in which parents can pretty much control your thoughts... lol

Plus 'wrong things' is just your opinion... they clearly believe it to be right that Islam is evil... Shouldn't they have some sort of say aswell?

I don't actually agree in the least with those slogans!

Christians might get offended but they don't parade down the street demanding tons of respect and wanting to cut of the limbs of whoever insulted them.

Actually I haven't seen them doing that for a VERY long time. If anything that happens when they get insulted they sue the guy.

Sure the muslim might not gather up 2 billion people but it still caused large amount of groups in several cities in several countries to be completely outraged. Which is more than a "Few".

I agree that the children should have been sent home, school's should maintain an objective learning environment.
However, some (or perhaps many?) Muslims do need to wake up to the fact that in the modern globalised world, their religion will come under scrutiny. For the last one and a half thousand years or so the teachings of the Koran have been unquestionable and absolute laws, whereas in Western Civilization we moved out of that stage with the Renaissance. Those Muslims who responded to the unflattering image of Mohammed by advocating violence are living in the middle ages.

I doubt anyone would have batted an eyelid if it said that about Christianity.

Actually, yeah, the school would not allow a shirt that said "Christianity is the Devil" to be worn in the school. Quit playing the victim card, it doesn't cover up your unmentionables.

Victim? Why are you assuming I'm Christian? I dislike all religion simply because it encourages people to think 'life doesn't matter, prepare for judgement, bitches.'

Islam is without a doubt the worst, mainly because of the mistreatment of women in countries where Islam and the Taliban are in charge, and for other reasons I can't be bothered to get into.

Taliban restrictions and mistreatment of women include the:

1- Complete ban on women's work outside the home, which also applies to female teachers, engineers and most professionals. Only a few female doctors and nurses are allowed to work in some hospitals in Kabul.

2- Complete ban on women's activity outside the home unless accompanied by a mahram (close male relative such as a father, brother or husband).

3- Ban on women dealing with male shopkeepers.

4- Ban on women being treated by male doctors.

5- Ban on women studying at schools, universities or any other educational institution. (Taliban have converted girls' schools into religious seminaries.)

6- Requirement that women wear a long veil (Burqa), which covers them from head to toe.

7- Whipping, beating and verbal abuse of women not clothed in accordance with Taliban rules, or of women unaccompanied by a mahram.

8- Whipping of women in public for having non-covered ankles.

9- Public stoning of women accused of having sex outside marriage. (A number of lovers are stoned to death under this rule).

10- Ban on the use of cosmetics. (Many women with painted nails have had fingers cut off).

11- Ban on women talking or shaking hands with non-mahram males.

12- Ban on women laughing loudly. (No stranger should hear a woman's voice).

13- Ban on women wearing high heel shoes, which would produce sound while walking. (A man must not hear a woman's footsteps.)

14- Ban on women riding in a taxi without a mahram.

15- Ban on women's presence in radio, television or public gatherings of any kind.

16- Ban on women playing sports or entering a sport center or club.

17- Ban on women riding bicycles or motorcycles, even with their mahrams.

18- Ban on women's wearing brightly colored clothes. In Taliban terms, these are "sexually attracting colors."

19- Ban on women gathering for festive occasions such as the Eids, or for any recreational purpose.

20- Ban on women washing clothes next to rivers or in a public place.

21- Modification of all place names including the word "women." For example, "women's garden" has been renamed "spring garden".

22- Ban on women appearing on the balconies of their apartments or houses.

23- Compulsory painting of all windows, so women can not be seen from outside their homes.

24- Ban on male tailors taking women's measurements or sewing women's clothes.

25- Ban on female public baths.

26- Ban on males and females traveling on the same bus. Public buses have now been designated "males only" (or "females only").

27- Ban on flared (wide) pant-legs, even under a burqa.

28- Ban on the photographing or filming of women.

29- Ban on women's pictures printed in newspapers and books, or hung on the walls of houses and shops.

I can understand why the girls were sent home if there's a dress code, but I have seen plenty of people wearing Christian bashing clothes with no consequences, and it irritates me that Islam gets special treatment.

Wait, wait, wait. So... Islam's the devil? And Christianity is spawned from the Muslim faith...?

I assume you were Christian because you were defending Christianity, not Wicca, Hinduism, or any other religion. I figured that to be a safe assumption, but I guess I was wrong on that part.

As far as the Taliban are concerned, their ideas are atrocious, but it is VERY important to remember that the Taliban's rules are represented of their tribal culture NOT Islamic values. Most people of Islam, I am sure, would tell you that the Taliban's treatment of women has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with culture.

HUH!!!

The situation was obviously resolved. The shirt created a disruption and was removed as per school code and regulation. They will not be allowed to wear those shirts.

I was thinking of a more INCLUSIVE solution, however.

The Muslim, Agnostic, Buddhist, Shinto, Hindu, Taoist, Wicca, and New Age students would all be allowed to wear "Jesus was the Devil in Disguise," T-Shirts. The Athiest students could wear "Radical Christianity Promotes Hatred and Intolerance," T-shirts.

It doesn't matter if it is TRUE or not, because it is all just about stating your beliefs, right? No one is getting hurt, right? You aren't causing visceral discomfort to any particular segment of the student body, right? You aren't creating an intentionally contentious situation, right?

Well I only believe in facts and science and I know the prepared response "Science is just another way to explain things." Yeah it is and it's the only one that can PROVE anything that it claims with evidence. That said I do not hate relgious people I just hate when I say I'm atheist and people look at me like I'm crazy. Basically I equate believing in some sort of god with believing in Santa Claus.

But I don't agree with that idiot that says most muslims are evil or crazy if he pulled his head out of his ass he'd know that it's the minority (Leaders, clergymen) who indoctrinate otherwise peacful people with insane values.

There's probably going to be a counter-argument at some point, with someone wearing a t-shirt that says "Islam is one of three very similar religions that claim a single deity as their origin and each have numerous off-shoots with varying degrees of craziness."

And on the back it'll say "I didn't read it either."

Wow.

Who else is in favor of re-instituting natural selection?

There are wrong opinions. I'm not sure if this is one of them, as I haven't thought it over much, but it's probably close.

Then we should start. Christianity has become to large, and too complacent. Its followers were at their best when they had to fight for their faith, and by their worship they shook the foundations of the established order. When they had to change words into actions, live up to the ideals of their faith and through virtue, change the minds and notions of those around them.

Now that the religion has become default, the lack of understanding or true faith, the more the words of the bible have been twisted and warped by the minds of men. When people no longer read the bible but go to "Bible study" where they read snippets and passages out of order to try and justify a stance of ignorance, intolerance and dogmatic dependence upon the church.

They need a change, need something to keep them on their toes, they need something to fight for, a struggle to bring out the best of them... not sitting idle and complacent, growing fat and stupid, filling their bellies on ignorance and hatred.

Its 2009, almost 2010... one would hope we would be beyond superstitious belief in the all mighty invisible parent figure in the sky and could be nice and loving to one another because its the right thing to do, and not through fear of divine punishment. But failing that... at least the worshipers of said invisible sky god could at the very least, hold up to the ideals of their faith.

Instead, place your hands on the TV and Pray, send me your donations and I will pray for you because god told me I need a new convertible and hate everything we tell you to, because god loves you.
