AC/DC, Aerosmith, and the Beatles have their own Guitar Hero and Rock Band games.
Not to mention the countless others that have their individual songs licensed for each game.

To me, it seems like they are selling out.
But at the same time It increases their awareness to the public.

So the good is that they recieve a lot more recognition, especially to the younger generation.
But at the same time it appears they are selling out.

well, the beatles maybe. but aerosmith and ac/dc don't have nearly as much of a legacy to protect.
i guess anything that gets kids away from soulja boy and into proper music is a good thing, so even if they are selling out a little it isn't such a bad thing.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are a new way for people to have a more intimate experience of music. Just because these bands are taking advantage of a new medium through which fans can enjoy their music, does not necessarily mean they are selling out.

To me, selling out means making music for the record companies or for money, or for whatever else and not for yourselves; putting music you've already made on a game therefore, in my opinion, can not in any way be classed as selling out.

Selling out is fun. Besides, a musician that isn't selling out is probably a musician who is a very poor S.O.B.

Seriously, they don't make any money at all from music sales. The companies that sponsor them do. Which is why music piracy is bullshit, because even if you download the music illegally the only way you can actually hurt the musicians themselves is if you decide you aren't going to go see them this year during their live concert or if they're one of the relatively few musicians lucky enough to not sign away the rights to their music and still actually get sponsorship.

I applaud any and all musically inclined saps who sell themselves out like five dollar whores. You gotta put bread on the table somehow.

*Most definitely does NOT work for the corporate fatcats*

Maybe. Maybe some are. But others are not.

You mean the same way they're selling out with itunes and mainstream audiences?

You only sell out if you don't enjoy the music you're making, purely to make money. They already made the music, they enjoyed it, they made lots of money, and now they're making more.

Not really considering most of them are the kinds of songs that the record company owns.

Not really. In fact, I kind of like that the music is appearing in games, since it means I can play an enjoyable game and listen to music I enjoy at the same time, and it is giving the bands some attention, and getting people to listen to them, so it's all good.

I dont think you can call this selling out, but i think Guitar Hero lacks good songs in their song lists.

I feel that that even though they may be selling out, I don't blame them. KISS set the standard for selling out.
