No, i would get a hammer and smash the bloody thing open and take the money. Well you didn't say i couldn't do that. And yeah whats the point killing someone for $100?

I said no because if I were the one offering this I would start killing loved ones. People assume "random person" when they think of this but I know better. I don't have guilt of random person dying but I will be sad to see my girlfriend die because I wanted 100 bucks.

I would push the button until I was killed. I would push the button even if it did not have the cash incentive.

Nah, I wouldn't.
Would I do it if it was a lot more money? No.
Would I do it if it was a lot more money and I was poor, starving, about to be killed by mobsters because of debts and all? Maybe. Once.

i'd stick the button on my phone and when it looks like i'm texting im actually killing people and making money. As long as it's guarented not to kill anyone I know.

I may have failings as a person but at least I'm not a direct murderer. There's no way I could sleep with myself if I knew I killed someone.

So here's the scenario. I give you a magic button. Every time you push this button a random person on Earth dies a horrible death, and you get $100. Would you push it? If so, how many times?

Personally, I would not. Even though I would not get caught, I don't think I could deal with the guilt of knowing I was responsible for somebody's death. So, what about you, Escapist?

Sounds an awful lot like a movie coming out soon...

Wow you guys would seriously push it? You'd all go crazy like Light from Death Note :O

is that really such a bad thing? I mean as long as theres no L or Near in the picture...

But seriously, I wouldn't press it because I have rotten luck and it would probably kill my mom or someone who would've probably given me the $100 If i'd just asked in the first place. if they could promise that nobody I knew would die, I would press it without a second thought.

No.
I mean, Christ, it's only a hundred dollars. It'd be like killing a dude for his shoes.
Why? What's the point?
It's a lot less hassle just to get a freaking job and work for it.

Now, if it were a million dollars... I probably still wouldn't do it.
Just because I wouldn't wanna.
I am a flower child and so on.

Guess what?

I TAPED DOWN THE BUTTON!

I think its called "The Box".
It sounded kinda creative when I heard of it but it seems that twilight zone already did it.

Yes, sure thing. I'd push it some 20-30 times to replenish my spending, ahh, accounts.

And then some more later!

I don't particularly care about some random person anywhere on Earth - and don't expect anything like that in regards to myself as some kind of necessity, either. Life ain't worth anything, anyways.

If I were killing criminals and the like who wouldn't have a chance in Hell of getting back into God's good graces, I probably would. I'd be able to use the money on people who actually need it.

If it's in any other case, I wouldn't. I don't believe an innocent person should have to die where money's involved.

BTW: It's not worth doing something like that if the price is that low. Maybe at $100,000 but that's still pushing it.

I would press it, then spend the money on exactly one video game.

"Yep," I would think, settling in to play ODST, "that is the value of a human life. It was a thankless sacrifice, but it was for a noble cause: my transitory entertainment."

A couple hours later, I would put the game down and go to bed. The next day, I would kind of want to play it, but I'd have other stuff to do anyway.

Is this aboot that stupid movie coming out?

Well, it was a stupid short story and a stupid Twilight Zone episode before it was ever a movie.
I feel the need to tell people that.

For $100 a person? Nah.
Now, maybe if it was $1,000...

It was also a stupid short film here before it was a movie.

And as long as I was assured that there would not be any other consequences other than a random person dropping off the face of the earth. Then yes. Yes I would. I would press it 7-8 times so that I may afford my MW2 360.

And most of this thread just proves what I have always said. Humans are whores, just name the right price.
That being said, no. I would not press the button. I would be tempted, but I would not. Too much empathy in me.
On the other hand, I would find a way to safely disassemble the thing to see how it worked. Who could resist seeing the inner workings of a magic death and money button?

See I am already under the belief that people suck and I don't care for them at all, what do I care if another pointless life is ended 10 minutes pre-maturely before they could rob, kill or rape someone?

Dammit, not another one of these.

I'd push it, I'd push it until I was the one to receive the horrible death, at least there won't be anymore "Would you push the button" topics then.

Even if that robber, murderer or rapist is your mother? Your significant other? You? Let us not forget that it kills a random person on the Earth. Its not just some insurgent in Uzbekistan, some soldier in the Chinese army or someone sitting in jail for a DUI in Phoenix, Arizona. It is anyone on the planet Earth. So, I interpret the question along the lines of you play Russian roulette where someone dies every time you pull the trigger, but you get paid every time its not you.

more than a 100 for this. Something so that the money could help more people than it could condemn

A stupid movie ripping off an episode of 'Tales from the Darkside' with almost the same damned premise.

Hell to the yes. Ever heard of Death Note? This is like Death Note but you get paid for it.

And how many times? As many times as it was convenient. If I needed a new laptop i would press it as many times as possible until I got the money to pay for the laptop.

I need to pay off school loans, I press it as many times as needed to pay off the school loans. How many people are on the planet? I think we can do without a few hundred.

So yes, I would push it but only at my own convenience. Not randomly out of idiocy.

I'd rather be able to choose who dies than to get the money, but unfortunately that was not an option.

I'd push it whenever I needed money, or just wanted someone to die.

The problem with this situation is that it'll never happen, it's a complete waste of philosophical thought that does nothing to improve or in any way affect your life. It may even negatively impact you since now you were thinking what you could do with the money you would have earned, and thus lowering your mood and wishing for unattainable choices such as this one.

My answer, no I wouldn't, because there is no button to push.
