It's a modified lyric from the song Richard Hung Himself by D.I. The original line was "boiling acid bath," but that was too long.

I used to call myself Azrael where I was able to, but it was usually taken. So I went into a transition.

-Azrael, Lord of Death
-Azrael L.O.D.
-AzraelLOD
-Azraellod

It's kind of lost it's meaning as it changed. It's just what I call myself now.

Well, mine's my gamertag, so the origins of that I shall tell...

Basically, I began offline as TheFinalFantasy (Final Fantasy nerd, if that wasn't clear enough ;), but then when I tried to go gold, I learnt that was taken. So, I though through different things I enjoy, and Magic was one of them. From there I got 'Mana', and 'Fiend' just popped into my head as a way to finish it. I've grown pretty attached to it over time :)

A friend of mine named Tim (but all his friends call him tricky) came behind the counter at my then work place and changed my name in the system to 'dandahammer'; has stuck for 12 years now.

I have a friend whose girlfriend refers to him as "Scruffy Puppy." I had also recently saw the Wolverine movie, and was joking quite a bit about how Wolverine's real power was his massive sideburns. I'm not that scruffy.

Sideburns + Scruffy Puppy - Scruffy - Space = SideburnsPuppy.

Ok, this is going to be long...

Skyler - My name is Kyle Spence. When I was 14 a douchebag school photographer who happened to be the father of a long time friend called me Skyle Pence in front of my entire year on photo day and thanks to another douchebag in my year Skyle became my new nickname (I like the word douchebag). 12 years later Heroes came out and the aforementioned douchebag realized that I had dark hair like Zachery Quinto and thus Skyler was born.

Rock- I own a pet scorpion. My friends (including the aforementioned douchebag) getting bored with the usual banter of gay jokes decided that I like to shag scorpions, I don't believe that I was quite able to explain how it wasn't physically possible. Anyhoo, a tv series 'Peep Show' (a pisstake on a hard hitting investigative journalism series) did a special on Paedophilia (it's a very funny episode) and in one scene it shows a paedophile disguised as a school. My friends decided that I like to disguise myself as a rock to sneak up on juvenile scorpions, hence Rock became a secondary nickname.

Combine the two- SkylerRock

I got two usernames I use (or maybe it's more like a username and a pen name?)

Anywho, soren7550 originates from a few years back when my brother was helping me make my email account. He said I needed a name and a number. The name part I took from my favorite character from one of my all time favorite book series, the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, and 7550 was the number on the computer monitor that I was creating the email account on. Thus, soren7550 came into being.

The second username/pen name is soren_alenko. (I currently only use that username for my gaia account.) I wanted something that sounded catchy and represented two things: my love of books and my love of games. The first part comes from the same place as before, and Alenko comes from the character Kaidan Alenko, a character from my all time favorite game Mass Effect.

Mine's takes direct inspiration from Stephen King's The Dark Tower Series; the main character is called Roland Deschain. Thus, Deschain was born.

way back in the early nineties, when Sonic was a lot cooler, and Eggman was called Dr Robotnik, there was a comic about Sonic here in Britain (imaginatively called "Sonic The Comic"). In that, Dr Robotnik used to be called Dr Kintobor (Robotnik backwards). So if that was modernised now, with Robotnik being Eggman, Dr Kintobor would have to be called Dr Namgge. Picked that as a username ages ago, and stuck with it wherever I go online.

Obsidian is one of my favorite stones, and I just stuck 'ashes' on the end as the rock where it's usually found is most likely volcanic ash petrified.

Fox KITSUNE:
Cause Im a furry

But seriously...
Im into Animal Conservation to the point ive made trips to conservation projects, studied the behavioral patterns and biology of many animals and volunteered at my local zoo so I thought I should have a name with my passion. My orginal name was going to be (Wolf Kitsune) but it was taken so I went with my secound favorite animal "Fox"

Thus Fox KITSUNE was born

The Kitsune part is from my study of Japanese Mythology and Inari worship (another passion of mine) so I thought it would fit.

-End-

I thought a Kitsune was a nature demon?

In the Warhammer 40.000 tabletop wargame there are Orkz. In their language, words can have different meaning depending on context. The words "grub" and "nar" when combined to form a characters name, in this case that of my Warboss, mean "cunning commander".

Im a bit of a Blood Axe bastard!

It isn't a Penny Arcade reference. It's from a long-lost D&D spoof that did the rounds on my high school network some years ago. It was the first thing that came to mind when I picked the username for my first forum account in 2000. I added "theveryreal" when I joined the Escapist because it was taken.

When I started this thread I had no idea that it would get so many responses and it is interesting to see how people came up with their usernames from making it at 2 in the morning to putting a lot of thought into it.

If you didn't like the people who gave you your nicknames, why did you make their suggestions your username?

I use 2 names depending where I am. I'm either some version of jthm (a particularly good comic) or Yonsan (a nick name I earned at my job selling video games that is based on my last name).
