When i was younger I had like a half-dozen phobias. Wasps were one beause of 9 stings i got after finding a nest. I jumped and they got into my clothes D=

I'm mostly fine atm. Though I've never been drunk cause I've got a phobia of what I'd say or do.

That one isn't necessarily a bad phobia though. I have a phobia of being left alone, but I think that that is normal for most people.

#Im claustophobic and prone to anxiety attacks in huge crowds gotten alot better in recent years and rarley get panic attacks more than once or twice a year anymore. Used to be damn bad though I would avoid going outside like the plague as a kid.

Has night terrors for a period aswell but they passed rather quickly thankfully.

When my school was having their graduation ceremony, I couldn't look up during the whole time i was on stage as i was imagining someone coming up behind me and slashing my exposed throat :(
I dunno, is this a legit phobia? And who else has those quirky fears?

A girl at my university has a neck fear too. It's kind of an odd one to see, especially as during the rehearsals for one of our plays, there was a scene where her character got hugged and someone accidentally touched her neck in the process... She ended up slapping him out of sheer reflex.

Personally, I have a phobia of needles, but only when I know that someone's planning to come at my with them; other times I'm fine (sewing etc). It makes getting splinters out a bit tricky... Other stuff I don't like, but I don't have a phobia of (boats, blood and excess gore, etc).

Okay. This is pretty much 100% impossible.

So is being attacked by a 20 foot crab (Yes, I have seen THAT video), but it still terrifies me. Phobias are totally irrational, and explaining them away doesn't work. :)

Is a phobia defined as a fear with NO rational cause, or one where it can have a rational cause, but is exacerbated far beyond that of a normal response?

I have a fear of food I haven't tried before. People assume I'm just picky, and while that's partly true a lot of it is genuine fear.

And the neck phobia... I used to have something like that. I still dislike people toughing it immensely, I just don't fear it any-more.

It's an irrational fear, but that can be of a rational cause.

Arachnophobes loathe killer spiders as much as garden spiders.

I have a phobia of extreme heats, then again that's probably due to self preservation and avoiding pain altogether.
Instinct, some call it.

You know I'm pretty sensitive around my neck too mostly the adam's apple and tonsils.

That seems just a little too spacific to be a phobia in the general sense since I doubt many other people would have exactly the same thing.

Aphenphosmphobia would be the closest thing since it is a general term for a heightened sense of a need for personal space and utter fear of physical contact.

There are other names for it too (aphephobia, haphephobia, haphophobia, hapnophobia, haptephobia, and haptophobia) but they're all similar.

If you're good at Latin, I'm sure you could add the word for neck somewhere in the name and make it look official.

If it makes you feel any better, I used to work with a guy who was the same way. He told me he would sleep with his hand around his neck to keep it "protected"

I don't like people being close behind me. That's about it.

That's odd... But hey it's a legitimate fear so I feel for you man. Shame too, because the neck is pretty sensitive...

I have that weird feeling too when somebody touches a body part of mine, that has not been touched very often.
When i was 12 and some girl would touch my back, i would get the weird feeling and almost shit my pants. Now it's gone, but when somebody touches my bear legs, i got the same feeling.

Don't worry about it. It's certainly unusual, but it's nothing to be concerned about. A lot of people don't like being touched from behind or around that area, it makes them naturally sort of wince and close up. You might hate it more than others, but this isn't a cause for alarm, just understand that is what is going to happen to you and be ready for it.

I don't like my neck being touched, but it's because I'm really ticklish. I have the same problem on my ribs, my knees, and the soles of my feet. I'm also scared of sea monsters.

I know this one girl who flinches up if you touch her ears, she says it tickles her too much.

You call that "strange"? It's completely normal! Expectable, even. Don't forget that your neck is absolutely vital for a great number of reasons. So fear of something bad happening to it is normal. Fear of someone even touching it is a little overblown, but still. Nobody wants to get strangled,or literally lose their head.

Truth be told,i don't like when someone touches mine either.

My irrational fear is that a giant platypus will see me in my underpants.

Hey, no Phineas and Ferb references here :P

I used to have a phobia of hieghts. Just being a few feet off the ground scared me. When I got to really high hieghts, I wouldnt be able to move because I was so afraid. I now have much control over it. I ride rollercosters now.

Bees, Wasps, Hornets, when I was young even Flies.

When I was REALLY young, my mom ran over a hornet's nest with our lawn mower and they chased us into the house and bit me and my whole family for 10 minutes straight. For years I thought it was a swarm of bees, plus it was around the same time that movie came out with Macaulay Culkin's "My Girl" came out, the one where he gets killed by a swarm of bees (I didn't know he was allergic in that movie).

So yea, bees. I got the fuckin' creeps just thinkin about them. I wouldn't call it a phobia, anymore, but there was a time if a bee was somewhere I wouldn't even stand near it. Immersion therapy does the trick tho, ever since when I'm near a bee I just stand perfectly still, and a couple times they've landed on me and crawled around and I've had to stand still and not scream.

I don't think its as much a phobia as just a thing.
Personally, I can't deal with too much twitchy, rapid movement in my pheriphreal; I just can't look at things sometimes.
Which is why I can't watch TV while laying sideways...

I have a fear of rejection, to such a degree that if people start beating down on me I join in with them on beating down on me because then were on the same side.

I have a wierd phobia about my fingernails and toenails. I can not stand other people touching them. For some reason I am afraid that they are going to pull my nails off or shove something up them. No professional manicures or pedicures for this girl.

Edit: I also have an intense fear of water/boats/drowning and spiders. Yay, go me!!

Red-haired people wearing pink freak me the f**k out, to the point where I have to walk at least a block away from the person before I can start to calm down.

Does your phobia of water have any kind of size limit to it? I'm fine in the shower or bathtub, but put me near a swimming pool and I get chills. Anything larger and I start to panic. Me + Boat + Ocean = Total Flipout and most likely a capsizing :P

Personally my fear atm is of the wind at night. I don't know why. There's just something very unsettling about the wind rustling through the trees in the dark and drowning out all other noise. I always get paranoid that something that I can't hear is going to get me.

Meh, maybe it'll go away :)

(Also, if I saw a panda with guns that would be my new fear probably.)

maybe you've been listening to Dragula (rob zombie) too often?

Me, I fear people >_>

I'm just claustrophobic, not as bad as I once was though I used to be terrified of locking toilet stall doors in case it wouldnt open again and I would be trapped. Same with elevators and the squash courts at school as they didnt have conventional handles they had like ring-pulls.

My friend absolutely hates having her nose touched at all by anything. She said its something to do with being closed in or constricted. I found out the hard way when for a joke I went "POP" and lightly tapped her on her nose and she flipped out.

im not as bad but yes im not keen on my neck being touched. If someone puts their hands near my neck i squirm and move away. If my hair covers my mouth in the wind i feel like i can't breath or if it wraps around my neck i choke.
My boyfriend likes stroking my neck for some weird reason and it used to bother me. Now he is the only one that can do so without the horrid feeling.

That's just a fear of vampires.

For what it's worth, i also have an irrational fear of axe wielding psychopaths.

WE ALL HAVE A FEAR OF AXE WEILDING PSYCHOPATHS!!!

Pfa! I laugh at your "axe wielding psychopaths"! In fact, they're so cliched that these days they're hardly even let into the Union.

I'm a kitchen knife kinda psycho - it's not cliche, it's just classic. Plus it can slice through tendons on back of ankles/knees better than an axe. I have a fear of being kicked out of my Psychopath Union for killing other psychopaths. It's not allowed, so don't go telling!
