Most of these are fairly easy to avoid. It's the ebay ones that are the real killers though.
hmm...seriously i would think that the most people know about Internet scams like that, and the problem is around for quite a long time now... ...so i think ppl. falling for this deserve to be told a lesson. Won't happen again most of the time and with 79$ there are also more expensive "lessons" out there.
There are always going to be people who are too trusting, too ignorant, or too naive not to get scammed. That's why con artists and snake oil salesman still exist. I think with the internet that it's easier to avoid these things through consumer watchdog groups and user reviews, but some people just can't resist the call of a miracle weight loss cure or a get rich quick scheme.
What surprises me is that this stuff is still legal.
I'm pretty sure they're not legal.
Then why is it there? | |
Another one I forgot to mention is a recent E-Mail i Received From "Blizzard". I Don't play WOW.
You shouldn't really link the site, it's got dodgy popups and stuff.
Maybe people who fall for the blatently obvious ones deserve it a little. But what I hate about them most is that they flood out legitimate answers to questions the internet could answer for free, like for example, 'what is a good weight loss pill thingy?' and cover it with so much bullshit about how they're product is the greatest ever that it blocks the best thing about the internet, typing in something and getting the product/information you want. To questions such as that it's like searching for something on Youtube and for every single video you're looking for 99/100 of them are Rick Rolls.
Sorry, Didn't realize. I just Dont allow my Browser to spawn any popups unless I say so.
The snake oil worked in Laura Bow 2! :(
It depends on the scam, most of them are easy to spot and avoid with even a hint of common sense, and I can't say I feel sorry for those victims (unless it's all their life savings - too harsh a paying even for stupidity). But others are extremely advanced, technically and legally, or may play into emotional weaknesses like seeking out people who have just lost a child to cancer over the internet, and conning them into donating to a supposed charity fund for sick children and such. Those people I don't think deserve to be scammed.
If they fall for it then they do deserve it. If i scam you with a card trick,is it my fault or your fault for the fact that you tried your "luck" with said card trick?
Some people aren't tech savy. I've met very successful people who don't even understand the fundamentals of how the internet works & believe it has some sort of validation or that sites being registered actually mean they're accountable. they're still very smart; they just dont have computer knowledge.

It should be common sense that you don't give out your bank details, or send money generally, to anything like this. You wouldn't send someone money if they called over the phone, or did a tv advert, so why drop your guard when on the internet? The sorts of people who fall for these the most are people who have no clue about the internet, and think they're safe and anonymous. They should really wise up before coming on.
Nice one, I should've thought of that...
Im not just talking about the "you have won the Nigerian/Spanish/Malaysian lottery"
scams. More ones like this: http://www.kevinsmoneytree.org/ [Popup Warning- you have been warned]
This one has popped up in the last couple of months and im Frankly amazed people fall for this sort of thing. Although the site says you only pay $2, it charges you $79.95 a week later.
People Don't Expect this?
