Megas XLR and Samurai Jack.

They had good runs, actually, but neither one got the time they deserved.

I'd say Life On Mars. (UK version)

Yes, it was meant for only two series but they're not even showing reruns of it.

I'd agree with the Young Ones. But you have to admit, that was the way to wrap up a series.

The Unusuals.

That show was KICK ASS, and didn't make it out of it's first season QQ

Damn beat me to it...

Seriously though, that was an excellent series, why did they only make 26 episodes?!

Green Wing

Though it's probably good that they stopped doing it so it never became bad.

Surface was like a monster movie that got to be on every week. It was pretty interesting but got canceled after a cliff-hanging season closer

Tripping the Rift. Imagine a CGI and more raunchy Futurama and there you go. Had funny bits in it too. Only got 3 seasons though.

The Young Ones was good, but Bottom was better. Rik Mayall & Ade Edmonson as old men sharing an apartment.

Firefly.

But I am glad it didn't get continued, for oh so many reasons.

If they kept it to 6-8 episodes a season, like some BBC shows, it could have gone for a couple of seasons without getting too crap. However, I do see your point.

It went on for 2 seasons! Thats enough.

The other thing the same guys made, The Comic Strip went on for about 20 years.

I loved the young ones, beloved TV show of my extremely warped childhood, I was always upset when it ended because the journey seemed over before it began.
Also to the person who said Firefly first... well played good sir, but next time I shall be the victor!!!

Also I think its a shame there will be no more Black Books but at least with a small number of episodes, every single one is classic.

Megas XLR. D'oh. Hell,it was one and only show to be unanimously praised on a goddamn 4chan! That should tell you how awesome it was.

This, oh so much.

Firefly had more win packed into its single season than most shows manage with ten.

That, and also Carnivale. Seriously, leaving it off like that was such a cock slap.

ditto and ditto, they were great while they lasted "the same button you pushed earlier". Megas had a wicked sense of humour and Jack had incredible style. can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Berserk. I really liked that anime but unfortunately it stopped at 25 episodes and just when shit was getting intense as well.

Sure Futurama lasted for six season, but it wasn't enough. Enough is never enough when you're watching Futurama.

Enterprise. They were just started to crank out good episodes when they unceremoniously beheaded it and left it to wriggle and die

Drawn Together. Wouldn't have minded seeing 2-3 more seasons before killing it off.

Pushing Daisies. That was a wonderful series that was artful, original, and extremely well-written. Did it last? Sadly, after 2 seasons it was done. I guess people don't like quality, they want the same shit they've seen over and over again

Have you tried The IT Crowd? Angry Irish dude, socially inept British dude and a neurotic white woman, just with computers instead of books - it's even written by the same people! It's not Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey and Tamsin Greig, but it's similar enough, I've found...

I honestly think that the two-three series pulled by most British comedy shows is good. It keeps the writing fresh and means that more episodes are good. Coupling started to lose it's touch in series 4, but The Young Ones, Fawlty Towers, Green Wing, Spaced, Black Books etc... Not one of them got over 20 episodes, but every one's brilliant, and will remain in that state forever more.

For the same reason, I'm glad that Firefly ended too early rather than too late. If it had continued for ten seasons, with 24 episodes a season, it wouldn't be as beloved as it is now. Joss Wheadon has no concept of long-reaching story or characters that remain likable for more than 40 episodes (Yeah... I don't know anyone who didn't cheer when Angel got sent to Hell).

Oh, and while the first couple of seasons weren't very good, Get a Life. It was like they realized they weren't getting renewed at some point and said screw it, let's just do all the weird shit we always wanted to and who cares if it makes sense! THOSE were funny episodes.

Yes. This, especially the second one.

I'd also say Dark Shadows and Blade: The Series. I remember when vampires were, you know... actually vampires. Those were good times.
Kolchak: The Night Stalker.
