Devil May Cry was pretty short. But "cool" rather than "awesome".

Texhnolyze - 22 episodes,
Paranoia Agent - I forgot how many it goes for.
Genshiken - 12 episodes but if you can find it there's already season 2.
Mushishi - 24 episodes?

Devil may cry

I wouldent say that, i mean, it makes no sence whatsoever, compared to the games.

That said apart from game 4 the games don't make sense when compared to each other for example where is trish in 2?

No one has said Spice and Wolf yet. it's 12 or 13 episodes long, but it's good.
I prefer it to Spice and Wolf II.

Buso Renkin. A tragically unheard of, only 26 episodes long, and in my opinion arather good anime. It is, however rather silly. But hey, a camp guy who uses exploding butterflys and eats people can't be bad, right?

Samurai Champloo > Cowboy Bebop

Anyone else think the new FMA series is actually better than the original? By a lot I mean.

Azumanga Dioh was pretty fucking great...

Bakemonogatari is pretty awesome if you can handle the mindfucks involved.

Elfen Lied- I think it was about 13 episodes, but it leaves you wanting more. In a good way.
Hard to believe an anime with excessive gore and breasts as a selling point could be so damn compelling as a story arch...

Code Geass and Death Note are both, I believe, two seasons long.

Could be wrong - but they're excellent nevertheless.

You are correct.
Death Note clocked in at 37(?)
and Code Geass at 50.

OT: NGE is also quite short, at 26 episodes. But so, so satisfying.
Though if you do watch it, you MUST watch End of Evangelion as well.

Just 3 things to add to this 1 trivia 1 sacrilege and 1 opinion you work out which is which

Firstly Interestingly the manga end's on chapter 108 which is the same number of earthly desire in buddhism

secondly In one respect I prefered the Live action flick's to the anime/manga The treating of ray pember's fiance Naomi Misora at least in the movie she had enough sense to put 2 and 2 together and figure ouot who light was and the death of his girfriend while light stood there helplessly was so much more convincing a way to try and get l's trust

Finally to all those who say these series are to short
the best ones always are because if you carry them to long they either lose their pace or you have to fill them with so much pointless stuff that they lose their meaning,
sorry if that sounds petty but I just thought it worth saying so ill say it clearer
If a show is not to short It is to long no real midground

Totally agree with gantz I mean does he go splat under the train Or is he saved by the timer?
I know it's strange but I've always loved shows with,as a friend of mine calls them, B*st*rd endings(buy a vowel). Shows like as you said gantz and evangelion movies to a lesser extent the evangelion series, what the heck was going on in that final episode anyway, And of course Gilgamesh dang that one had a sweet kicker Absolutely everyone dies with one exception, and not the one you think, and that final frame with her grinning covered in blood priceless

Id go with death note, 37 is nothing since some shonen ones are up to 400.

I thought that was a hentai.

Which one?
Strawberry Panic! is definitely not - it's just a romance, which is probably why I enjoyed it.
Dunno 'bout the other one, I've only read about it on TV Tropes.

Jumpin' on the FLCL/Fooly Cooly/Furi Kuri bus.

I think they cover the theme pretty well (puberty/coming-of-age) in a short period of time (3 hours) and you end up the pillows.

Yeah, the pillows were good.

Okay, now watch Kodomo No Jikan so you can make a comment on Suiseiseki's next review.

Always struck me as a little too loli-esque, to be honest.
Though I did watch Strawberry Panic! and I fucking loved it, because I am a huge girl you guys.

I thought that was a hentai.

Strawberry Panic is a romance, there's some suggestive scenes, but no worse than the likes of the infamous Mass Effect 'romance' sequence.

KnJ is...well it's far more expletive, a lot of the first series has self-imposed censors on it.

Which they apparently got rid of in the second series...

You'd probably enjoy X/1999. Well, the movie version anyway. Another one of those anime where you reach the end and wonder what the hell was the point in them even trying. There's also Blue Gender, for your giant robots fighting alien bug needs. You'll grow attached to many characters, and get to see them eviscerated. There's also...

Paranoia Agent- Short, think only about 26 or so episodes. Admittedly I haven't seen the entire series, but what I have seen is pretty good.

Golden Boy- Only about six episodes. Perverted, but funny.

Berserk- Not sure if anybody has mentioned this one yet. Only about 26 episodes, but those 26 are full of bloody, good, medieval fantasy fun.

Big O- Only two seasons long I think. Giant robot noir fun. Ending will probably tick you off though...because it doesn't really explain anything or even make sense.

I loves anime I'm going to have to put Full Metal Alchemist forward.
it was only about 50 episodes which i class as short.
I mean look at the mainstream animes bleach and naruto
(and thats not even including Naruto Shippuden)

Two more unusual ones
Rosario + Vampire
about a dude who goes to a demon school unwittingly alot of relationship
stuff but It's funny and you gotta love te bat
and then Black Lagoon
it's about a mercenary group and well its a little complicated but awesomes.

Okay seriously last one Gantz
the only anime that has ever made me want to read the manga
be warned though the anime ending has nothing to do with the manga ending and is in my opinion really really bad but the mangas still going and thats nearly finished and it was soooo much better than the anime
okay I'm gonna go away now before i start thinking of more...I'M NOT SAD!

I membered spaces

Seen some of golden boy awful lot of jiggly jiggly in that one as I recall and the ending of blue gender was great Haven't scene those other ones although I have been reading the X manga but only have the first 2 volumes

Blood+ (50 episodes) and Claymore (25ish) Are both good. And they both have an ass-kicking female protagonist.
I ended up crying my eyes out at the end of Blood+ because I'm a big ole' marshmallow.
Claymore has some more action than Blood+ and a killer end credits song.

For the record the claymore anime is realy good up until episode 22 I think at which point they deviate from the manga have a stupid ending. The manga goes on way past that point and is still going now, one of my favorite manga to date.

OT: Most of what I can say has already been said before in this thread but my recommendations are Darker than Black and if you want a real short series Straight Jacket, it was only 3 episodes but I thought it was really good and would have worn out its welcome if it had gone on for too much longer.

Black Lagoon got the green light for a third season...so eventually I wouldn't call it short. But damn good none-the-less!

WHAT THE FUCK!!!???? Really? Please tell me you are telling the truth. Oh shit that OWNS.

I absolutely agree...the news made me wet my pants...lol. Though it is not as I had originally hoped...a third season was announced on the cover of the first volume of the novel. No date other than 2010, as of yet, but it may be limited to OVA's. The 3rd season was hinging on the completion schedule of the manga. Which as we all know is very slow.

It is not out of the realm of possibility that a 3rd "full" season comes out of this, it's just that the Anime had caught up to the manga. For anything else, we'll just have to continue waiting.

In before Death Note, Code Geass and Cowboy Bebop

Seriously, how many times do those same three series need to be recommended? Change the bloody record guys.

Go watch Darker than Black.

HELLLLL YEAHHH!!!!!! finally someone else who has heard of it!
also, Zombie Loan. 11 episodes, starts two more, then dies halfway through a story arc.

God I am tired of everyone babbling on about Death Note. It is not even that good. Its fucking intro to anime. The one series that people watch after seeing DBZ on Toonami and rant on and on about how amazing it is.
Goddamn noobs.

Anyway I could list you a few but you really have to let us know what "short" constitutes as the average anime runs around 24-26 eps.
