PC habits? Mine just takes an arseload of time to start up, and Firefox hates looking through my old URLs for matching ones. Loves to freeze up for 15 seconds or so. Hasn't done it so much since I cleared everything though, so I guess I'd just stuffed it too full of cookies and whatnot.
Hell yes. A list of my laptop's weird habits. Switches the " and @ buttons around at will. Most of these are probably virus related but my last scan yesterday showed nothing unusual. Weirdly the screen thing can be fixed by pulling the screen down then putting it back up.
Sometimes if i have two tabs open, and are switching between them frequently, it will make one of the tabs its own window.
Oh god mine does that too - notoriously in Baldur's Gate (!?) and my IM program Trillian. Closing them and restarting them seems to fix it though, I still have no idea what it does that. It also moves the ~ from next to the enter key to the left of the 1 key.
Sometimes, instead of screensaver, it will just go into sleep mode. It's annoying. And it will ...sometime...work....really...slow...like...I ...had a lot of programs up at once, but then work just fine just a few secounds later
when we get a virus, any open widowws ficker up and down, then politlly says "you have a virus." useful, but wierd.
Ah, I think that might be the keyboard switching itself from UK mode to US mode. Although why it would just decide to do it randomly is beyond me.
when mine is in sleep mode it'll randomly turn itself back on without any prompt
My computer is fine, just a little slow. It is the least 'quirky' computer I've had to date. This thing actually /deleted my theory that Microsoft windows was out to get me.
It's all too possible that I might accidentally hit a key combination which changes it, but I have no idea what that combination would be or how I switch it back beyond shutting the program down and restarting it. Or it could just occur randomly. Who knows?
Mine refuses to turn on within 20 minutes of shutting it down. Annoying as hell sometimes.
It doesn't like me. Me and any sort of technology doesn't get on. In my old house, I blew my rooms light bulb 12 times in 4 months, disabled the trip switch in a row of houses twice, had 3 360's RRoD me in 4 years and my last computer decided to kill itself and wipe everything but the operating data. It did this twice.
Got it. I've discovered through the power of Google that Alt+Shift switches the language setting from English UK to English US.
I quoted you again so you'd see this.
Ouch. Bit of a complicated relationship you've got there my man xD
Mine likes it's RAM scratched occasionally. Like once every three months my computer will freeze, and I'll have to switch the two RAM sticks, try to boot up (unsuccessfully), swap them back and then boot up the computer. I'm used to most of it's habits now though. I can even tell how she's feeling most of the time, can't I old thing? *pats computer affectionately*
Oh yes. | |
My computer will turn off whenever it damn well pleases, likes to open random bookmarks when im using IE, and makes the screen go completely black every-once-in-awhile.
mine does things a second before i ask it to do them like this post it will post it before i fini
If your system takes a long time to start is most likely because you have too many programs starting when the system boots. if you remove all the necessary ones from the start up list your system will boot a lot faster.
mine sometimes starts with two network devices and doesnt connecto to internet, i have to disable the adapter then enable it so it only appears one.
Used to always crash on TF2
Haha ^^ you can have the Xbox. Damn disk tray is on the fritz.
Genius xD | |
When ever i try to install any new piece of hardware, my pc refuses to load up at all.
I have quite a few, which are about to get a system wipe if I can't fix them. damn viruses.
Mine has taken to playing my music list on shuffle without opening any form of music playing program. It's not able to be stopped (or even shown as running) in task manager, on applications or processes. And it seems to select ones that reflect my mood quite well. My laptop scares me
Mine in cycles of about 4-8 weeks will have a couple of days of making the weirdest grinding noises before resolving on its own volition, I call it the Leprechaun stuck in my case.
not a software thing but my screen like to pop off the hinge and be all lopsided. pretty annoying, and I think it's starting to cut into some wires
Mine disapproves of my movie choices - although not in any discernable pattern. Usually it plays DVDs with no issue, sometimes it unbalances them and shakes them so hard it sounds like I have a speedboat under my desk.
Same! annoying as hell when i am watching a video and it starts again!
ah yes, the only problem with being given vast amounts of cookies on the internet. mine has horrible heat issues. the thing'll be burning up from normal operation (but will never overheat) and it refuses to run any game at a decent frame rate unless I slap on an external fan.
My computer at the moment is quite good, behaves itself nicely, aside from the fact that the sound will randomly stop functioning after it's been left on for a while, and sometimes it will secretly restart when I close the lid without my will, and, if my hands are in the wrong place, it will make the touchpad act like the mousewheel, though it doesn't seem to have any connection to actually pressing to anything, but it's nothing compared to all sorts of problems I had with my old laptop.
When i tab out and in of TF2 it freezes for like 10 seconds. Weird because my Fallout 3 is fine when i tab out.
My wireless adapter on my Lappy has a weird habit. Sometimes after I wake my computer up, it refuses to recognize any network without being hardwired until I restart it. It can be kind of annoying.
Sometimes my laptop's touchpad doesn't work when I boot it up, so I have to put it into standby and then take it out again and again until it works.

What's that, maam? Your thread's not working? Have you tried switching it on and off?
Moving on from my admittedly weird opening this time round, do any of you nocturnal lovelies find that your PCs develop their own little habits? For example, mine has taken to spending a long time when you try to make it do anything. The whole thing will freeze for about 10 seconds and just carry on like nothing happened. I blame the external hard drive.
Over to you, Jeffrey.
