Sometimes, my laptop just decides to disconnect my keyboard after I take it out of standby.

I can't say I've faced any major problems other than viruses before, but I will say this for certain. Ever since I got the C_J_update it likes to cut off in the middle of me writing a sente-

Mine likes it's RAM scratched occasionally. Like once every three months my computer will freeze, and I'll have to switch the two RAM sticks, try to boot up (unsuccessfully), swap them back and then boot up the computer.

I'm used to most of it's habits now though. I can even tell how she's feeling most of the time, can't I old thing?

*pats computer affectionately*

Use a rubber pencil eraser on your RAM's contacts. Always worked wonders for me.

My computer has the odd habit of suddenly crashing for no apparent reason (happens very rarely, but god damn annoying when it does).

Touch pad scroller doesn't work and the touch pad will move the cursor up halfway up the screen if you aren't careful.

Sadly it's not that. Nothing so simple. It refuses to work until I've danced the jig I mentioned earlier.

*sighs*

My computer tends to make clicking sounds whenever it loads a game as if its yelling at me and also hums in a high pitch whenever I am playing a game.

not a software thing but my screen like to pop off the hinge and be all lopsided.

pretty annoying, and I think it's starting to cut into some wires

Is this a laptop? Some models had a recall put out, you may be able to get it replaced for free. If not, you may want to consider replacing the hinge/frame yourself. It's not expensive nor complicated, and you'll save yourself from having to buy a $400 screen if you let the problem go until the screen gets cracked...

My internet connection drops almost every time I open more than one tab. I use AT&T, I hate those bastards.

Actually, my desktop has started developing its own quirk. Every now and then it'll start disconnecting and reconnecting my mouse. Usually unplugging it takes care of the problem. I'm fairly certain it's the XP mouse driver, but it hasn't been occurring often enough for me to start tearing into Windows for hours. I'm not gonna do a wipe just for that either, especially not when I'm so close to upgrading and having to reload the OS anyway.

Mine hates TF2. It takes forever to start, then will do everything in it's power not to play...

My computer's habit is being a 6 year old broken eMac with no disk space. I hate it and want it to die.

My desktop inexplicably decides to take several minutes to close the desktop when shutting down sometimes. Possibly related to my HP printer driver.

One of my PCs upon log on, will always tell me that a random Microsoft Office program of its choice had suffered a critical error and was closed. It asks whether or not I want to send the error report and automatically ticks the "restart whatever" box. So if I'm in a hurry I'll click don't send and wind up opening word or something.
Also it takes ages to do that.

Another thing is that every time a new TF2 update comes out the download goes at like 12kbps. However if I pause and the restart the download it'll go at 500 kbps for about 2 minutes and then drop down again. Also if I pause and restart too often steam crashes...

XP? If so, try this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=1B286E6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en

I get a lot of audio artifacting in games, especially Valve games... and I can't play any streaming video without getting some pretty serious chop....

Trying to figure out how to update my audio drivers, and getting very frustrated very fast... urge to kill rising....

Anyone have any tips before I kill something...?

I got this one... that clicking noise is almost certainly your hard drive about to shit the bed... back up your files and replace ASAP...

A while back, on an older computer, the save and open dialogue boxes in Word were for some reason in fullscreen. That really annoyed me, especially if you wanted to see why you opened it in the first place.

Thankfully my current machine runs just fine, probably because I've gone as far as physically dismantling and individually cleaning the components, and as such my computer lives in constant fear of being reformatted / attacked with the vacuum cleaner if it ever misbehaves.

My PC sometimes gets a little square of stuck pixels that show whatever was in that area when it started. The only way to make it go away is to switch user and log back in. Very annoying and very strange if anyone knows a way to fix it you would make me very happy. Also it used to always be in the same spot but now I notice it apppears in a few new locations.

Actually its been doing it ever since I first put it together and booted it up. Had it happening for 2 years now and so far everything has been fine.

Might be able to point you to the right place, at least. What's your model PC? Failing that, what is the name of your audio device? (Right click on My computer->Properties->Device Manager for Vista/Win7. For XP, Device Manager is under the Hardware tab in the same Properties window.) What OS?

My computer is quite alright, though it does have a habit of having to do those stupid windows updates every time I put it in hibernation.

It also has some loose body panels, but that's just from the fact that Dell decided to skip on computer integrity and left only enough screws to keep the damn thing together (which it sometimes fails at).

Ah, Vista is notorious for having issues with drivers slowing up the shutdown. It may well be the printer driver, but it could also be many other things. There is a registry hack that allows you to force the shutdown to occur quicker, but there's a few simple things I would do before that point. First step would be to try to cut down on the amount of unnecessary stuff running in the background, if you haven't already.

Go to start-> run, type 'msconfig'. Go the Services tab, check the 'Hide all Microsoft Services' box, then disable any services that you don't need to have running. If you're unsure what a service is for, Google it, or just leave it alone. Go into the Startup tab, and similarly disable anything that looks to be unnecessary.

My computer has a nasty habit of collecting dust while under warranty and I can't open it otherwise it'll void the warranty. So it'll just randomly restart if there is too much dust. It also likes to chuck a hissifit if anyone other than me touches it. Such as a BSOD when my dad so much as looked at it.

Mine likes to get stuck at the POST half the time, and then I turn it off and it always works the second time. I think she just wants a little attention.

My internet also likes to randomly stop loading new things.

Like, if I already have a game running online it's fine, I just can't join a new server...

If I have a youtube video open, it will load, but I can't load others.

Thanks so much... My friend helped me assemble this machine, so it's not a brand name...

Windows XP Service Pack 3
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT video card
Realtek AC'97 integrated audio

I was told to go to the Asus web site and get the newest drivers for the motherboard, but their are numerous sites claiming to have "offical" Asus drivers(!), and many of them want to install malware and what-not...

I'm trying the Windows Update method now, for lack of anything else...

Mine bluscreens whenever it feels like it, and once it's rebooted it's like it laughs its ass off and re-arranges my porn alphabetically (because I have View set to Icons).

Chances are Windows Update will not work. Here are the drivers straight from the manufacturer:
http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Accept the ToS, and download the right ones for XP (should be the second set of links). Might take a bit, Realtek can be slow.

My computer actually functions great. Sure, it's a piece of shit in general, I have to run half life 2 on low, and it lags like hell whenever I have more than 2 layers in sony vegas, but it doesn't have any clear cut problems. It's just outdated.

My laptop offs itself randomely. It works fine for a few weeks then dies once and then a couple more times for good measure when I work. So I save every time my left hand is about to press S.

Heh, I found 'em myself just before you posted that... But thanks for your assistance none-the-less... I'd been barking up the wrong tree looking for the Asus site, obviously... Drivers installed, computer re-started... now to test w/ the Left 4 Dead 2 demo...

Thanks again, man....

EDIT: Still have some audio issues w/ Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, so I don't know WTF... I'll have my buddy look at it this weekend...
