Hmmmm

I would choose

Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver

Slayer - Stain of Mind

Anything by the Eagles of Death Metal (that's some sexy rock)

I don't care if you hate this band or not, this was before they became corporate musicians.

After seeing this,

I can think of no other music more suitable for zombie slaying. Yes call me unimaginative. Not that it bothers me.

People seem to say they sold out a lot, but all they seem to mean is that they became successful.

Xero Scythe:
Animal I Have Become- 3DG
Monster-Skillet
Indestructible-Disturbed
Re-Education (Through Labor)- Rise Against

If you have a storyline where you are looking for someone:

Savior-Rise Against

I have to 100% agree with the 2 rise against songs. Prayer of the refugee is a good one too, especially the chorus/solo.
OT: Killing In The Name - Rage Against The Machine
Knights Of Cydonia (the last part especially) - Muse
Doomsday - Atreyu
The Pretender - Foo Fighters
Master Exploder - Tenacious D
Strangely enough,
We Are The Champions - Queen
The last one has no resemblance of a song which inspires violence or even tension, but it's a fantastic feeling to see a zombie fall to the floor to the sound of that song.

If you want a more humorous/ironic take on killing zombies, this would be perfect;

I know it's not really rock/metal, but anyway.

Another choice might be to use the metalized version of the L4D tank theme?

Otherwise, the things others have already listed would be awesome choices.

You kidding me...
I was about to write those three.
Though, Paperwings by rise against seems to be good for plot based ones.
Nice fast paced beat with a lull in the song briefly for a timed section, perhaps a last stand. With the lull being the 'calm before the storm' kinda thing.
I am- Static X is another good one.

The Trooper by Iron Maiden, its the PERFECT song to kill anything to. The song can fit into any situation that involves guns and enemies

Just thought of the perfect song:

Frank Sinatra - That's Life

It's Ironic. Also imagine yourself blasting zombies in slo-mo to this!

Billy Ray Cirus - Achy Breaky Heart. Reason? When I was playing the L4D 2 demo, killing zombies with a guitar, I started singing this...and it worked in a weird way. o_0
