It is not the video game's job to educate your kid. That is YOUR job. You are angry at the video game industry because you no longer feel comfortable using it as a baby sitter. Video games were not made to make more time for you by letting you dump your kids off on something so you could work on that big presentation for work tomorrow. They were made to provide enjoyment for youth through the means of simulation. It is not the game developer's fault that your kid likes violent video games, it is YOUR fault. YOU are in control of what your kids play. They don't have a credit card, they don't have a car to drive out to Best Buy. And they make you be there when your kid buys the game. You have no one to blame but yourself. If you don't like it, spend time with your kid. Make it so they don't need external entertainment. Yes, it is hard to entertain an adolescent, but thats you job, thats what you asked for when you had a kid. You are in complete control of what you kid plays. If you disagree with what a vide game consists of, don't buy it, return it, don't let your kid play it. Yes, your kid will be angry with you, it not your job to be their friend, your their parent.
One)There are people in the world who do belive that video games rot our minds and they are entitled to there opinons and
Two)This is a video game website! What kind of parent against video games would come here? Also the few of us who are parents obviously know video games are not the ones to blame for violent outbursts and are proably gamers themselves.
Neonbob: ...you're posting this on a gaming website. Do you see a problem here? Something about preaching and a group of people who sing?
This is to all the parents, not you, you parent.
I don't think that any parents who frequent this site are against violent games. And if you were going for the parents of users under 18...why? Unless they're incredibly paranoid, they aren't going to watch the kid while they're online.

'Not you, you damned dirty parent!'
I think you meant your. As for your speech, it is with little information for people to use, nor is it anything but the obvious for people that are on this site. Sorry bud.

It is possible to show your parents your computer screen you know.

More importantly, this is to the overreacting types who spaz out on every occasion in which a video game is not entirely placid. (And yes, you parents DO spaz out on things, especially you overprotective soccer moms. Yes you do, so don't bother yelling at the screen when you read this.)
Enzeru92: um i don't see the point of this thread.........
The point of this thread is to state an opinion and hear other's responses.
I understand that what am saying is there really isn't a other side of the opinion here in The Escapist since its a site with tons of gamers and i seriously doubt any parents that are against violent games would be here.
This thread is pointless. Everybody knows that bad parents only take notice of people with above 1000 posts. Go spam the RP forum for a while and try again later.

Sir, your post was uncalled for and unneeded, it did not contribute to the discussion is any way, shape, or form.

You know what? Fine. I'll play along for the moment. Assuming the parent does come over, then what? They'll read a post, on a gaming website, explaining how they're screwing up. I'm inclined to doubt that they'll appreciate that very much. And then they'll realize that you're just some random person on the internet, probably a kid who has been denied the games they want in the past, and dismiss your post as useless.
Sorry if it feels like I'm just shitting on your parade here.

Its true: I am just some random person on the internet, and yes, your parent will probably disregard my argument. And while your point about being denied video games was untrue, I understand your argument. But if there is even one parent that even considers my argument, then I have succeeded.

One can only hope there is such a parent out there. Very well. I shall harangue you no longer!
thebobmaster: Also, Neonbob...wow, that's a huge post-count.
Ehhhh...the magic of no social drive and too much free time is a stunning thing. X-D

Every generation had some form of exscuse as to how kids act.
Back in the day it was "Rock and roll" it stated that everyone who listened to it would go insane and kill everyone.
Is Everyone that listens to rock and roll a lunatic? No, a abosloute TINY fraction, a fraction so small it's baffling it exists are violent.
Videogames are just the next crutch for parents to blame all of their problems on, when they die off and gamers grow up there will be some sort of new thing... like virtual reality to blame how kids act. It's an ongoing cycle, all people are doing by blaming video games is being an idiot AND completely forgeting EVERYTHING about teenagers. We don't WANT to live by your rules as we feel that's like imprisonment in a way.
So you Jack Thompson clone, either learn or leave. It's a fairly simple choice.
Also just reffering to you mentioning that parents have to entertain their 7-17 year old, that's just idiotic. Surely when you were a kid/teen your parents didn't spend their every waking moment trying to amuse you? No you found a form of entertainment, well GUESS WHAT, that is what video games are. A Form of entertainment.
The only lunatics of gaming, are the one who cannot disconnect gaming from real life. THAT is the problem, not the violence, not the sex (They've alreayd seen all of this, all shielding from video games are doing is annoying the children. Like saying, don't say Dam, it'll drive you into a rude child, well they have already heard it so you cannot "Shield" them any more) it's people who cannot disconnect.
Grow the fuck up, "Worried Parents" Shielding does exponentially more harm then it does good. It's fighting a up hill battle, with hail the size of minivans raining down. Not going to happen.
Anyone else here feel that Bob is being needlessly jerky about this? To disagree, that is one thing. But to cop the irrationally obtuse attitude is unnecessary. Let's keep this civil. You'd think close to 20K posts would teach you that much at least.
Firebolt227: Sir, your post was uncalled for and unneeded, it did not contribute to the discussion is any way, shape, or form.
Neither was yours, but you don't see me complaining. Instead, you see me mocking Metallica, Napster, you and your mom, along with all the people who feel that the parents-against-violent-videogames discussion is fresh, interesting, original or even has a point anymore.
Unless you have invented a mind-control ray that causes bad parents to stop being bad parents, your contribution to the crusade against the crusade against violence in videogames actually has a negative impact on the crusade as a whole, due to the energy required to post, read and respond.

*Phew*
Oh and just for good measures "BEGONE TROLL!"
I was planing to make a separate post for this argument as I agree with 99% of the quoted post above. Also I do not agree with any point made by Jack Thompson. He has made video games the scapegoat for all problems.
Ok... so you made a controversal topic... that you knowingly DISAGREED WITH, posted anyways... did all of this to get "Responses"(aka Reactions) and then when I posted in a logical disagreement, you just highlight what I said, and said that "Yeah man I tottally Agree!" from which makes you not only a troll, but a Hypocrite...
Just get out, I invite all others to hit the mighty Report button. You've wasted the intelligence it required to come up with the post, and the typing of the responses.

You misunderstand my argument completely. Also that is no grounds to report the thread.

Yeah read my last response to yeah, the embarrassement that follows admitting to skimming is rather large.
Better idea. Figure out that blaming games or stopping kids from playing games is stupid. Let your kid play violent games, they are happier than if they had to interact with you.

That is quite alright, you take responsibility for your mistakes and apologise for them. This has earned you some random guy on the internet's respect. Congratulations!
