I'm a non smoker. Do you feel irritated by my presence?
Discriminations kind of a big word for it don't you think? I quit over 10 months ago now but the most I ever got was a few funny looks and under-breath comments... But I'm pretty hench so that may have had something to do with it...
Me too! but i believe people shouldn't discriminate smokers, but the companies that make them.
I don't smoke, but I totaly understand why you'd feel discriminanted against. Non-smokers can make such a fucking fuss about it, it's just childish.
I dont know I kinda like smokers expesaly when they pull the survivors though fire and spitter acid.
Why do you believe that? Smokers influence their own smoking far more than the tobacco companies do... They just provide the product, it's up to the individual to smoke them.
Completely agree. I'm a non smoker who's allergic to tobacco (so much so that I will die after about 30 minutes of exposure) but I'll defend the rights of people do it, so long as its not around me.
Not really, every once and a while a family member will say something.
I don't mind people who smoke. It's your money and your lungs, therefore it's your decision. I only get annoyed if the smoke is wafting at me and it's making me cough. Most smokers are courteous enough to move seats or put it out, or at least not light up another one right away. Then you have my brother, who will accuse me of being Rob Reiner and blow smoke in my face.
Well when I can't get a boomer people seem to.... oh not a L4D forum. Honestly I has Asthma as a kid, smoked and worked as a camel cig free pack giver away at clubs...then quit smoking of 2 years cold turkey. If you think that crap about second hand smoke is gonna hurt you.... check the air quality next to a car. Oh and any dork who starts coughing next to me normally gets a bitch slap for being retarded.
I'm a non-smoker. Smokers stink. I recently dumped a girl because she smoked too much, I didn't want to continue to smell stale, rancidness every time I went to kiss her, and she had no chance of quitting because like almost all smokers she was a tobacco junkie. Her whole house reeked of cigs whether she was smoking or not. People do have a right to smoke though. If you want to make yourself undateable, ugly, unhealthy and smelly, not to mention poorer due to the price of cigs, don't let anyone stand in your way.
Not alot when out with my friends as alot of them smoke as well, but whenever i'm around my dad or my gf i get it all the time, especially when we are both round my dads place, snide comments galore.
To be perfectly honest, I'm a nonsmoker and discriminate against smokers. I see it as something that people have control over, and can change, no matter the difficulty.
My reasons are mainly for the fact that the companies marketing choices are somewhat evil When i visited my 13 year old cousin in virginia, we drove by a billboard for smoking, and how its cool, and its okay to say to buy your products in this manner, everyone does it, but the fact was that ad was placed so kids going to school and from school will be forced to see it on the road over, and it was only a minute away from the school.
So you see not quitting as a sign of weakness?
Yes indeed they can be. In the UK tobacco advertising is almost completely illegal. They are even trying to get shops to 'hide' their tobacco so kids aren't confronted with it everytime they enter a shop. I'm quite inclined to agree with them. I think curiosity is one of the main reasons I started smoking. But I still blamed myself, not Malboro for making them. Taking responsibility for yourself should come first.
I'm a no-smoker, so I really have no say here. But I'm absolutely fine with smoking. It's your body and your health, and you're free to decide whatever lifestyle you should live. Any way, smoke smells sexy. While second hand smoke perhaps has some kind of potential damage associated with it, smokers shouldn't be so harshly discriminated against as they are in some countries. Meh.
I'm the same way. The worst part? The people in the apartment above me love to smoke on their porch. Hooray for being forced to close my window for ten minutes out of every hour so they can slowly kill themselves.
Addictions are funny things, firstly you dont realise your addicted till you are well and truely hooked, secondly when you do you find it is hard as hell to quit because you enjoy it and makes you feel better than when you don't have it. am trying to quit at the moment on my girlfriends encouragemnt/assistance. Withdrawl is absolutley horrible. only people who have never properly smoked take the whole better than though you weak degenerate stance.
As a former smoker I agree with what you said... Anyone can quit, it's not impossible at all. But you as a non-smoker don't automatically have the right to discriminate against them just so you know...
Just like you can stop making a fuss over what I've doing to my own body, in the event that I'm not forcing you to share my cigarette. As far as discriminated against, I do, actually; nightclubs, pubs and bars are no longer allowed to choose to permit smoking inside, and therefore, I get to listen to whinging prats clamor on about how my smoking 15' away from the club doors forces them to "run a gauntlet of carbon monoxide and worse!" Wah.
Same here only my stepmom does smoke yet she doesn't have the decency to go outside.
I smoked for almost 7 years and bartended in a bar that had smoking in it for several years after I quit ( it's against the law now to smoke any public indoor area in my Provence ), sometimes I don't care when people smoke and I definatly don't discriminate if thats what you choose to do; but only if you stay where they're supposed to smoke and be respectful of the people around you. But there is nothing worse then seeing someone smoking right near an entrance and blowing it in other peoples faces. You have a right to smoke, but others around you have the same right NOT to inhale it.
Didn't say that, just that they have the ability to not smoke if they wish to not be discriminated against. It's not something unchangeable, like race.
Yes, I do realize the amount of willpower it takes, that is why I said no matter the difficulty.
I've been around many people that have overcome smoking, including my mother, and while I have not physically experienced the addiction I think i understand it well enough. Could be wrong though
Anytime I actually smoke, my friends are all cool with it. They even smoke my cigars with me. >.< No-one has ever said anything untoward about or to me while smoking, either. So, no, I do not.
I smoke, but I don't feel discriminated against for it. It wouldn't matter to me though because I don't find my right to smoke to be a particularly good argument. If a petition came up to ban smoking in all public areas in the US I wouldn't vote against it and I find it to be self-righteous crap to say, "Well it's my right to do so!" I suppose it is, but if the government (or the people) decides to ban smoking, I can't get angry at them for protecting my stupid ass from myself. Most smokers who scream about wanting to be able to smoke any time any where to me have terrible comments that aren't arguments and always sound like they're three year olds BAWing because their mommy took away a knife.
I'm not as habitual as I used to be with smoking and even when I was still a smoker there was that bit of discrimination that came with it. I usually figured it was warranted so it never really bugged me.
Everyday of my life it seems like anymore.
It's the mental addiction that is hardest to beat. The nicotine only lasts a few days in your system. The physical act of pulling on a cigarette as well as drawing the smoke down your throat can be hard habits to break too. Ultimately it's just a battle between yourself and your willpower. You need to want to quit too. It's no good just quitting for financial reasons, health reasons or social reasons. You have to genuinley, wholeheartedly want to quit... I went from 20 a day to none and didn't use gum, patches or anything. I've never slipped up and never really had a craving to be honest. In fact, sometimes i'll have dreams that i've smoked and it's been horrible, I even felt guilty afterwards... 10 months on now and I rarely even think about it. It's all mind over matter. I wish my willpower gave me the abillity to throw fireballs because I'd probably be doing damage+12!
You do know there are restrictions on smoking because it affects those around you. Ever heard of second hand smoke? Stop being a twat just because you can't spread your cancer smoke everywhere.
yay lung cancer on topic: well when i have to breathe the smoke off those things when they light up in an elevator that they can go fuck themselves
Y'see, there's a problem. You're not killing yourself with just your money, it's my money too. Countries with free healthcare have to increase taxes to deal with smokers and their glorious black lungs. The insurance premiums goes up for everyone because people live unhealthy lifestyles, such as smoking, eating unhealthy, and drinking. They're killing themselves and we have to pay for it. In a way, it's very much my business what people kill themselves with, especially when they're doing it with my money. So excuse me for approving of making it as hard as hell for you to enjoy your death stick in peace. You're burnin' me money. You're more than welcome to spit in any poor food I choose to indulge in.
Case in point to my recent edit.
withdrawal isnt that bad your over dramatizing it unless you are smoking over a pack a day

Do You?
I feel sometimes irritated by no-smokers.
EDIT: I frogot to but up my experiences while I don't feel Discriminated against besides the daily reminder that I should quit, even the warning on my ciggerat box just says "Quitting smokeing now will reduce the chances for cancer" besides the old one where it just said may cause.
But ever time I go on to a forum about smoking the non-smokers seem pretty hostile sometimes.
OT: I try to be curdousy as possible when around none smokers which is easy since I leave in a small town comprised of mostly smokers and I never smoke indoors no matter how cold it is outside.
