So today I was talking with someone, a 17 year old girl, and I mentioned this production of Hamlet that I'd seen where Hamlet had a t-shirt on that said "So you think you can tell heaven from hell?" written on it. She asked me what the quote was from, and I said a Pink Floyd song, and she said Pink who?

I'm not trying to be a music elitist or anything, but is it a lot to ask anyone over the age of 15 to at least know who Pink Floyd is? They're constantly referenced and were so influential... I couldn't believe she had never heard of them. I get if she couldn't recognize the lyric, but not know who pink floyd is? Seriously?

Anyways it got me wondering about whether you guys have had moments like that, where you talk to someone who is just incredibly oblivious of something deemed universally common knowledge. Post them here!

at Sonisphere, when Metallica were on stage, my friend turned to me and asked who they were. He was standing there in a Trivium tshirt. Considering Trivium are attempting to be Metallica, I thought someone would have at least mentioned Metallica to him. But, alas, no. He had no idea who Metallica were.

Alot of the time after have some kind of interaction with chavs I'm left wondering if there is something wrong with me or something wrong with them, because something ain't right there. A few weeks ago a chav las no older than about 19 followed me about, wearing her nightgown, at about one in the afternoon, shouting 'DUUUDE!!' at me.

So yea, oftentimes chavs make me think 'Are you serious?'. Then I realise they are. Then I get scared and move with my auntie and uncle in Bel Air.

I know a classmate who CONTINUES to consider Palin as a legitimate and qualified option for the post of VP.

Also, Jehova's Witnesses confuse me--as in the stuff they won't do-- but, hey, free country.

Do you still not know who Pink Floyd is? It's a classic rock band, very big for their time, like Led Zeppelin or the Beatles etc.

But to answer your question. Yes, I have had moments like that.

When I was killed by a grenade in COD4, I watched the killcam only to find out that my assassin threw the grenade over a building and it bounced off of two different surfaces before landing right on me.

My art teacher (who is a massive douchebag, but who respect for his ability and taste in music) was playing the Beatles in class and 3 people, including myself and him, knew what it was. _facepalm

Ive been playing longer then he has!" Note. When that happened, I had played since release. He had played since WOTLK Released.

I had a health teacher who said that eating McDonalds at a moderate rate would do the same thing it did to Morgan Spurlock because you're eventually having eaten the same quantity. She also said the average height of a male was around 6'4", showed a Dr. Phil episode on childhood obesity, and went on a rant about media violence.

Also, in 7th grade a woman came to talk to us about veterans day. She said that Obama was unamerican because he didn't wear an American flag pin and didn't say the pledge. Made me and several of my friends rage. Hell, just add a lot of the stuff people at school said about Obama as muslim terrorist allegations were abound.

This idiot in my class shouted "Another Socialist Ideal".. we were talking about Capital Punishment.

Agil is nice. Strength is to kinda, cuz it can help keep a decent amount of threat. Intel tho? either your friend aint such a great player, or he just though u said boomkin or tree.

Amen brothers. I've know a friend for about 13 years and the other day he watched me on the PC and shouted "Dude, your keyboard is on the wrong side!" I facepalmed so quickly that I now have a black eye.

I asked my dad if he played any games. Apparently he did and i didn't know. He was bloody good at battlefield 2 and Unreal tournament though.

Most my "Are you Serious" moments come from my everyday life.Now if i go outside i take my Ipod with me and listen to music just constantly.Now i often have people asking me what song iīm listening to.So i might answer Slipknot or Opeth.To which they often reply "Slipknot sucks,Korn are way better.And who are Opeth?".I can live with the question about Opeth.But telling my that my favorite band sucks and that some band that i personally donīt like is way better is not something that i really want to hear.I donīt go off yelling at them or anything,but i do often explain how i have my choice of what music i like.Which usually ends with the saying "Whatever,you just canīt accept the fact that Slipknot stole Korn's music style."Then i rage.Slipknot and Korn are not all that similar.A thing that i often have to tell them.

Oh yeah, it happened yesterday when I was reading a news article on this site. About the Article from Times Online about the boy that played World of Warcraft, and also decided to go on a school shooting.

I was in drawing class a week ago... realize that I'm a senior and I have a few freshmen and sophomores by me since I never took the class til this year. Well, there's this guy, Lee, who is absolutely oblivious to anything and everything known to man. Hell, for that matter, known to any existing being. A tree would know more than this kid. Anyways, there are these kids who were making fun of his full name, Lee Anthony Marshall... his initials of course being LAM. Well, the guy sitting next to him is a fellow senior and he asks Lee if he can call him LAM. WELL, the oblivious Lee says "...But, there's no 'E' in it".

It felt like someone just took a bat and bashed me in the face... repeatedly. This kid, who's probably in between the ages of fourteen to sixteen, doesn't know how to spell his initials? LAM!? You say LAMB, which is what the guy was telling Lee he was going to call him. He keeps insisting there is no 'E' in LAM, so we're all getting extremely confused and frustrated since the letter 'e' is NOWHERE TO BE FOUND OR NEAR THAT WORD. I'm really quiet in classes because there are always people that I just want to rip out their tongues because of how stupid they are. So, finally getting extremely heated, I raise my voice, much louder intended to and say, "...Are you fucking kidding me?!?! WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THIS 'E' COMING FROM. THE KID SAID 'HEY LEE! CAN I CALL YOU LAM!?' HE SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE LETTER 'E'. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? SERIOUSLY!? ARE YOU CONFUSED OR SOMETHIN'!".

He comes to say that he isn't. But then, two seconds after he says that, he states that MAYBE, just MAYBE he is confused.

In the end, I say to him, "JESUS. PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE ONE OF THE MANY REASONS I HATE THE U.S."

Alright, I got one for you guys. So last week or so, I was sitting in Chemistry class and my teacher mentioned it was a special day. I forgot exactly what it was, but someone mentioned the 20th Anniversary of the Berlin Wall's fall, which was the previous day. A girl in front of me then said:
"Where's the Berlin Wall? Isn't that, like, connected to the Great Wall of China?"
"No..." says my teacher.
"Well what is it then? Isn't Berlin in China or something?"
"Allison, you're a junior in high school... How in the world can you possibly think that Berlin is in China, and that the Berlin Wall is part of the Great Wall?" (said by my teacher again)
"Oh pfft, it's not like I sit down and read history books all day. God."

(She also later mentioned that she didn't think she needed to go to school because she was "already smart enough." The teacher ripped her a new one for that comment too.)

The first thing that went through my head when I heard that was, "I'm putting this on The Escapist."
