PMing a moderator is NEVER a bad idea.

Whenever I get a PM from a concerned user there's always a caveat at the end -- "Sorry, I know you're busy."

Let me state for the record that moderators are NOT too busy to help you. That's what we're here for. In fact we WANT you to PM the heck out of us and tell us everything wrong with the site. Moderators simply can't be everywhere, checking up on everyone. If there's someone linking malicious code in their posts, tell us! If someone has been a jerk for months but never quite crossed the line of reportability, tell us!

The simple truth is that moderators are not the pilots of this ship, you are. If you see a problem tell us. You are never wasting our time.

You can find a list of moderators here:

IRC: (I am nearly always online, though may not respond immediately)

Ok, I'll keep that in mind.

Cool thanks! It's really a good thing to know. But I must say I do always hold back from asking or PMing for I fear "talking back to a Mod" would get me banned.

Yessir will do...

While I'm here mind telling me if the/a mod/mods have their eyes on me?
I hope not...

You've got it, sir. Lab and BT have told me the same thing several times after I felt I was pestering them with things, so I know the feeling is uniform.

Cool bananas.
I've PMed mods loads of times, and can attest that they are always courteous and diligent in considering a user's concerns.

They also didn't pay me to say this. No sir, no way. I don't take cash for comment. That goes against what little dignity I lost back in the great depression. Y'see, back in those days, folk knew what for and didn't take nothing from nobody. 'Cept this one day, when little Jimmy LeRoo took a Falcon Punch right to noggin'. Sent 'im sprawling across the pavement like nobody's business and stuck 'im up in the infirmary for three whole minutes! Ah, those were the days, back when Hoover was still dicking around in a Grand ol' ditch trying to get his dam built...

Best... story... ever...

I always feel weird pming a mod, seeing as I have been banned twice myself.... but this is important to all users.

Anyway, I think this thread would benefit from a list of more responsive mods/red gaurds. I mean, its better to pm someone like Ultrajoe rather than Virgil(sp?).

This would be great since people get nervous pming mods, if they don't get a response or they get a little uneasy

Well I just PM'ed Wilson now, and if I'm suddenly banned for my site suggestion then this is a hoax to lure people into a free ban XD (Joking! =O )

*edit*

45 minutes and no response. X_X

*Edit*

65 minutes or so in I got a response!

Awsome! :D

I totally would PM mods if I had something to PM them about... The only thing that I ever want to PM mods about is the possibility of having an article printed but it's not going to happen... I mean, have you read the stuff I've written?

I'll make sure to remember this if I ever need to PM one of you guys.

I've actually PMed a moderator before telling someone to lock a thread that got to nine pages of flaming a stubborn user who will remain unnamed.

But I'm not sure if I said if you're to busy. Anyways, it's nice to know that all the mods have time for us! :). I feel special.

I've talked to UltraJoe. Cool dude. I'm thankful we have fairly relaxed moderators.

Cool. I hate websites where mods aren't like this.

I have never PMed a mod directly, reported several profiles though.
I tend to try to keep a low profile, least the mods see I am in fact quite insane.

I was put on probation for flaming in a thread, when in fact there was no flaming; just the use of strong language.

Probation for such language would have been fine.
Probation for flaming was quite unjust.

PMs went ignored.

It's quite sad to see the Mods, wanting people to bug the shit out of them.

But I'm not saying anything.

Its just that you're so big and scary, we don't want to interfere with your heroic duties...

May we PM you totally irrelevant nonsense?

Kidding. Thanks for the heads up.

EDIT: Grammar, "I don't know if you can, but you may."

I've been wondering who the moderators were so I could PM them. This was helpful, thanks

Moderators are instructed to keep their cool while responding to users. So, don't be scared to ask a question or tell a moderator that they were wrong. That of course doesn't give you license to be a jerk. As they say you catch more flies with honey.

If you have a complaint about a moderator (and we do get some) those go to Matt: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Kuliani

Moderators don't handle the site business, for that you'll want this link.

You were originally probated for this, but your probation was reduced to a warning, probably after the moderator got your PM. Normally there is a PM notification for these sorts of actions.

Sure, but don't expect to always get an answer, except from Ultrajoe, who has a secret mission to spam everyone on the site.

It's the responsibility of the users as much as the Moderators of a website to ensure things run smoothly.

An Extract from: These forums, and you! (Forum Posting Guidelines):

Getting to Know Your Moderators:
Currently, we employ a staff of Escapist editors, programmers and volunteers to communicate with our readers, uphold the forums, keep everything organized and swing the Banhammer in times of need. They are:

Matt Kuliani, our Community Manager
Susan Arendt, our Senior Editor.
Jordan Deam, our Weekly Section Editor.
Russ Pitts, our Editor-in-Chief.
Jason "Virgil" Smith, our IT Director.
Jeff "Spinwhiz" Palumbo, our Brand Manager.
John "CantFaketheFunk" Funk, Associate Editor
wilsonscrazybed, a member of the Red Guard, a community-based Neighborhood Watch.
"Barrel-O'-Laughs" nilcypher, another proud member of the Red Guard.
Alex_P, another proud member of the Red Guard.
Labyrinth, the female member of the Red Guard.
Ultrajoe, a previously banned user rehabilitated to the extent of becoming a member of the Red Guard.
Baby Tea, the Red Guard with the radio voice.

You know what? This is why the Escapist stands head and shoulders above other forums on the internet. There's an actual sense of understanding here. Wilson, I don't know what made you think of this idea, but you and whoever else thought of it should be congratulated for being open and honest about what is going on in this site. It gives an air of approachability around you guys, something which if you didn't have would only further serve to alienate the community. Kudos on the thread, hopefully it makes a difference to the way users interact with you guys.

Or in my case, with obscure Sci-Fi references.

I have the sanity level of a bipolar schizophrenic mad scientist. So at best, I just report anyone who's post seems a little over the line, and given my self description, I feel I hit the nail on the head when I do report :P

It's good to know we have good mods here thanks a lot.

Cool! and now I know. (and knowing is half the battle)

So did ya ever read First Men In the Moon?

Tres mal, Monsieur.

I was going to say something about mods just being human like everyone else, but who are we kidding. Only superhuman ego could possibly fuel the Ban[insert object here] and only superhuman stubbornness could wield it.

And then there's Ultrajoe. He has training wheels on the Dominator because he doesn't quite have the Powar! otherwise, but shhhhh. We told him they increased the damage output.

Good, I allways wondered if I would be bothering people by sending PM's, or if it would be backseat moderating

You're missing something.

There we go.

It's always nice to know that the mods are on our side. And maybe dispense the the occasional sandwich and a reassuring cuddle.

Oh, and, CSI: Miami reference, for the win.

Thanks, not all moderators are approachable or even good at moderating. But here it's nice and different.

I have a history of wasting people's time, its most fun, normally I message Kuliani if any problems arise... LaCoil just for chats and Ultrajoe, well I'm certain his eyes glow red so I don't trust him...

EvilJoe is just waiting to pounce, I know it!

I used to PM moderators for any serious troll threads that used to turn up every once in a while, but I haven't had to do that as much now. But this is one of the things I like about the moderators of this site, the fact that they actually relate to us and try to connect with us, more so than other sites I have seen.

Though I did once get told by Virgil not to do this [pm you guys] for when it comes to reporting specific users, in which case he said we should just use the report link and leave it like that.

First time I PM'd him was when he had his Eviljoe avatar, and I got quite a weird response from it (for context, it was about mods banning users for troll threads, but not locking the threads themselves):

Ultrajoe:
Damn scrub moderators. Who do I need to shank and gut to get some proffesionalism from my peers, eh? All of them, that's who. Just you wait.

WHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
