A lot of stereotypes were made up to slander the thing they are stereotyping, but the ones that really stick are the ones that get perpetuated by said group. If seeing is believing, then it's hard to not believe some of them. I live in a very multicultural city and have found some people in different cultures to just be general all-around assholes, regardless of their particular stereotype, but you'll notice a trend in that more than one of these types of people behave in this way. For example... I live in Toronto... a lot of immigrants here will walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk, push people to get in and out of elevators and subway cars, cut in line, and I take a cab about once a week and have had 1 white cabbie in the 3 years I've lived here. How can you be against a stereotype when there's so much evidence to support them? |

I'm a teenager who is a romantic. Eat that for anti-stereotyping. And no one. It annoys me. |
Beat Writer Posts: 222 Joined: 14 Apr 2009 | I stereotype everyone freely, no shame in that. I'm just aware that most people extend beyond my preconceptions and let them prove me wrong. I don't really like the thought police idea where you're encouraged to go to great lengths to hinder yourself from ever having prejudices in the first place. |

This is true. I guess I just hate people who perpetuate said stereotypes, and it seems that a number of the things you mentioned are things that can be summed up as 'being an asshole'. |

I have also heard it being explained that some cultures such as Asia and India, where there is overpopulation and crowding, that they are taught to push and shove and cut in line and such because in their home countries that stuff has to be done to survive... I mean, they should be acclimatized to their new environment eventually, but I still don't buy this as an excuse for being a douche. |

Stereotypes just annoy me. I judge people on a individual basis, not based on things like age/nationality/ethnicity/religion/sexuality/Some other stupid petty way of discriminating against someone. |

On the Record Posts: 6207 Joined: 10 Aug 2008 | We stereotype people anyways. So eh, why not. Like when you say "people", especially the way it's used in most bullshit speeches, you're already stereotyping those "people" by thinking and/or implying that they have the same interests and goals in mind. Which is hardly ever correct. And generalizing in general is how we stay sane. That's how we freaking think. When you see a cup of water, you expect it to behave like a cup of water - and not like the space z dragon from 39's dimension. Why? Because you've already seen and interacted with other cups of water, so you expect it to be the same/similar. |

That's because these were archetypes before they were stereotypes. I got spanked in another forum for being naughty and suggesting that a video game "alpha male" award was a psychology reference and not a sub-human biology one, and the argument ended when it was revealed that humans have evolved beyond the possibility of an "alpha." But it's still an Ideal Form, which is why so many dudes (whom I suspect are compensating for their small dicks) try to act macho, start a fight, gawk at every single remotely attractive female and brag about all the nasty things they would do to her... |

The stereotype of Irishmen where I come from is that they are all bald and all huge assholes. So far that stereotype hasn't been wrong. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 5 Joined: 22 Jun 2009 | i hate stereotypes and people who make them. but its hard to because i also hate people who fall into those stereotypes. i mean i'm mexican and i dont think i fall into the mexican stereotype (at least i hope not). but me being mexican i can say that some mexicans annoy the shit out of me. they're always yelling, they're stupid sometimes. like for instance in one of my classes this one girl went what are we supposed to do, right after the teacher JUST said what we were supposed to do. i try not to be rascist or stereotypic but people just make it to hard. and yea i agree with AvsJoe. i alsways feel okay with stereo typing blonds, sluts, douchebags and idiots |
