Greatest Epic Battle scenes in a movie

I had to post this thread after rewatching the climax of Avatar. It made me remember how epic the entire battle was.

What is the most epic battle/fight scenes you've ever watched in a movie?

Probably the last battle in Lord of the Rings Return of the King.

Very definition of "epic"

Movie... well End of Evangelion is a movie, and it's got the best fight scene I've ever watched in a movie... Lets go with that.

either the intro to saving private ryan or the end of we were soldiers

Can't Beat that.

Every battle scene in Band of Brothers is epic, and like 90% of Black Hawk Down.

BLack Hawk down. Primarly where Master Sargent Gary Gorden and Sergeant First Class Randall Shughart defend the downed pilot. Those men were some of the best this world has ever seen. Most moving action I have ever seen in a movie. The only thing that might top that would be a movie of Operation Redwing.

Sin City, pretty much any scene Marv was in was epic!!!

Also, I didn't like Watchmen but the opening fight scene was pretty sick.

Oldboy Hallway Fight!

One take of pure awesomeness!

Excellent stuff, one continuous shot. Wonder how many attempts it took them.

The beach landing in Troy is pretty awesome.

This is one of my favorite moments in cinematic history. This film in general is why I respect Zack Snyder as the very artistic director that he is.

EDIT: Huh, the embedding is messing up. Sorry about that.

Here's the link to the youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVeg78Yfp7g

there is little out there, that will ever manage to top the biggest epic battle of nerds versus nerds... Gamers versus Critics... >:D

my two favorite epic fight/battle scenes have ta be from 'They Live': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsZpdUUdd3I and the final battle of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uBhB2m-Zuo

sorry, I don't know how to embed

both are epic, but in really quite different ways, eh?

I always liked the end of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The space battle around the Death Star was cool by itself, but combined with the battle going on down on Endor and Luke's emotional battle between himself, Darth Vader, and the Emperor made that entire section epic.

Every battle in the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".

The Gladiator scene in Doomsday. I can't find a link, so just go watch the movie.

John Woo John Woo John Woo

Damn, looks like all the scenes from bullet in the head were removed...

It had to be a lot. I am not sure of the exactly number, but they say that it took 3 days to fully shoot.

Ummm... the scene in Matrix Reloaded where Neo fight against all the Smiths?

I think it's cool...

Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi!!!
3 battle scenes happening at the same time:
above Endor
on Endor
Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader!!!
Action packed and full of teddy bears!!!

Sgt. Horvath throwing his helmet at the Nazi soldier in Saving Private Ryan was pretty epic for me. I laughed intensely when that happened.

At any rate, any fight scene from Band of Brothers, storming Normandy in Saving Private Ryan, the scene in Flags of Our Fathers when the Americans take on the caves of Iwo Jima, and robot-on-robot fight scenes from the Transformers movies is epic.

But above all of those, the best for me is the opening scene from Star Wars: Episode III. Oh, how I wish that scene was 10 minutes longer than it is, because you can never have too much epic starship-to-starship warfare!

I'll give you:

The whole damn fight.

...This dosen't count...but it still cool.

The final duels in 'For a few dollars more' and 'The good the bad and the ugly' nothing will ever be more epic than those scenes.

Awesome scene. I also think that The Comedians death was brilliant. It was awesome.

Sin City was also awesome. Any fight scene really. Especially with Marv.

Also the District 9 the fight at the very end of it. It is awesome. Giant mech battle of awesomeness. Lastly I love any fight in X-Men Origins is pretty awesome (except the end one was a bit of a let-down).

Achilies v Hector in Troy

The Final Battle of Dark City. Love That Movie. It's got the best fight music, psychic powers, Richard O'Brien (The Director of Rocky Horror Picture Show) Kiefer Sutherland (Pre 24) and it feels like the fight the Matrix Revolutions should have had, except done better.

I would embed, but its been disabled. I would recommend the Director's Cut and actually watching the movie. Out of Context, it makes no sense.

Too many to pick from...but I liked the sword fight at the end of Hellboy II :D

When The Punisher kills everyone in the hotel at the end of The Punisher War Zone
