What is this?:
A comprehensive guide about User Groups and some of the 1211 unique User Groups which the Escapist Community plays host to. We have something for everything and if we don't have it then that problem can be quickly rectified by you making that user group. The template and base coding for the first part was done by Claymorez but listing all the groups after the first 20 or so was all xxRyanxx.
What is a User Group?:
A user group is a micro forum which is private in terms of posting privileges to those in the group. The topic of discussion is entirely up to the members of the group but generally each group serves a particular service in terms of what the main point of discussion is. Who can join a group is different for each group. There are 3 types of group joining:
Invitational - These groups require a present admin or member of a group, depending on the group (the group creator awards the privileges) must invite you.

Free For all - These groups can be joined at any time by any user by pressing join group.

Confirmation - These groups require that you ask to join the group and then a group admin can decide weather to allow you entry into the group or not.

So you've probably heard of us in some form or another, what we are is a fairly secretive group of forum members who go around whacking trolls and other less than reputable individuals. Generally if there's someone 'causing trouble you can bet we're on the scene in our various guises.
In this World that we know, there are things that can go horribly wrong that even the happiest person can fall into despair. There are issues that cannot be shown onto The Escapist due to that it's to personal. Even though we have the Advise Forum, it may not be enough if your problem only gets worse. So what can you do really?
This Group shall let yourself be able to Personally Message me or any other Member that you feel that can secure your private life. We shall listen to you, word by word and give you advise even in the most critical times of your life that you may feel that is hopeless to overcome. We aren't miracle workers, but we are noble people who seek to support you through the dire situation.

After the death of the Holiday Council and Avatar Design Team, the Escapist was left without a definitive source of custom avatars and the talented and generous artists of the Escapist community banded together to form the Avatar Store.
Consider the Avatar Store User group to be like the bounty hunter's wanted poster wall. Simply join and politely ask for an avatar as you describe it or to have a current one edited and one of the groups many talented artists will undoubtedly get to work on making your dreams of a sparkly snow falling avat-...I want that now! Anyway they will try and please and basically always do!
Also in addition they do Banners (including animated ones), Backgrounds, and Signatures (signatures are disabled on this site, but they can make them for other ones). So head on over!
The point of this group is if you want to talk to people who won't get angry, annoyed or even offended by topics you really want to talk about. It's a good place to get advice from people who actually care about their fellow man and will give you honest, but not degrading, comments on whatever you want to talk about. Escapism UK is the group hub of the highly successful and annually attended event of Escapist UK. At Escapist UK members of the forum from the UK (and maybe a few visitors) meet up each year in the summer for a weekend of fun, laughter and paint ball (hopefully that tradition will continue) which allows you to get to know your fellow users. The group is close and attendees stay close, so the group is very regularly updated and the number of attendance increases each year. Also as of this year they started Escapist UK Halloween which occurred at Halloween - which further promoted the ties and friendly atmosphere of this group.

If you want help with some A-level (age 19>) or below mathematics if possible, this group will help, but will not provide answers to suspect coursework / graded homework. .

There are many groups where the group Owner and Admins give weekly news updates about a topic, activity, film or show of interest. Joining such groups will allow you to keep up to date with the latest to do with you interest - it will also allow you to share what you know with those in the group! The titan of a User group has the most members of any user group on the site, because as you have probably realised in your time on the site, be it ten minutes or two years Yahtzee is hot potatoes :P It is a place for all the Fans to chat about his latest videos and basically chat about anything related to the highly entertaining Zero Punctuation or ZP for short!

Overthrowing all of the World's goverment is hard to do, just ask Doctor Breen, the token human that the Combine invaders have chosen to represent them as they conquer Earth. After several failed attempts at getting the people on his side, and allowing the Combine to take over the world, Breen hatches his newest master plan. In order to distract the human resistance from the Combine, Breen has decided to make a television show so addictive, that the Combine won't even have to fire a shot to win the war for the World. The TV show is simply a rip off of other popular reality TV show's with a video game twist. Breen has gathered a vast array of video game characters from different universes by using portal technology. Hidden cameras catch all the action that goes on, and nothing is off limits. From lacing food with LSD to Sex bots, the video game characters have seen it all. Nothing is ever off limits in Reality TV: The Video Game Edition.

Year=2021. WMD (World of Mac's Destination) had a project called Project Trojan in which they made a console, Sigma XE. This made games so realistic that NPCs practically became living, thinking beings. After a few problems, the devices broke. NPCs materialized everywhere. Obviously, that was bad. Posts in the group chat may be edited for the duration of the current day they are posted[1]. Afterwards. They cannot be edited by anyone. News posts can be edited at any time.
If a user is banned from the forums, they are unable to post in the group chat. However, suspensions have no impact on a user's ability to post in groups. If a group Owner is banned they still retain their position within the group unless they pass it on.
A post in a group (either chat or news) increases a user's post count the same as posts in the forums.
Replying to a chat comment: Hit the reply button next to their post, the screen should then jump down to the box at the bottom and look like this:
@User1:
Obviously; replace the term "User1" with the name of the person you are replying to.
Giving two users the same reply: Hit the reply button to both of them, so your comment form looks like this
Type out your reply to the users, hit post and you're done.
Members, and how they can join you:
Set by a group's Founder at creation, and changed by the Owner at any point in the future, this is the means by which interested users gain membership to a group.
Open to all This is the most common group setting. Any user can join the group at any time by pressing the Join Group button, users can also be invited to a 'Open to All' group without restriction.
Requires approval Typically used by Owners who feel that the group subject is sensitive, or in the case of RP, GMs who wish to ensure that membership is restricted to participants of the RP for which the group was created. For a user to join, they must press the Join Group button and await approval. The approval can be performed by either an Administrator[2] or the Owner, depending on whether or not the Owner has set the group to allow the Admins to do so. This is the only type of group which can not invite members.
Invitation Only This is by far the most restrictive type as it requires the group Owner to invite specific members. This is again useful for RPs as it totally prevents anyone but a chosen few from joining the group. Depending on how the Owner sets up the group, Invitations may be made by the Owner only, the Owner and the Admins, or anyone in the group. Somewhat counter-intuitively, Invitation Only can be a good way to increase membership of a group.
Group positions. Who has the power?
There are four positions in groups; Founders, Admins, Owners, and Members.
The Founder is the user who created the group, and the one who earns the badges when it reaches a certain number of members. Founders are also Owners by default, though they can hand over this role to any member at any time.
Owners are the user currently running a group. They have the power to delete posts in the chat, change the group icon, membership application type, group name, hover text, remove members, ban members, post news, appoint Admins, and generally run the show. The only thing they can't change is who founded the group.
The powers of Admins are as far reaching as the Owner allows them to be. At most, Admins can post news, approve members, invite members, kick members and delete news posts and posts in the chat. Most of these powers can be stripped down by the Owner at their leisure.
Most users will simply be Members. Members may post in the chat, and not much more besides, except in the case of Invitation Only groups that allow Members to invite users.
Group moderation:
Groups are not, and can not be directly moderated by the Red Guard[3]. Instead, moderation is the responsibility of group Owners and Administrators. The options they can take to that effect are as follows:
Tier one: Deletion of inflammatory or inappropriate comments. To reduce clutter and keep things running smoothly, chat posts can be deleted. This can be used as a deterrent for those behaving rudely or making large amounts of off-topic posts. Note: both Admins and Owners can enact this. Deletion of chat posts is the core power held by Admins and this can not be disabled by Owners.
Tier two: Kick a member from the group. A kicked member can immediately rejoin a group, hence this option is best used as a warning for repeatedly disruptive or abrasive members. Note: This form of moderation can be enacted by both Admins and Owners if the Owner has given Admins the privilege to do it
Tier three: Ban a member from the group. This will render a user unable to view or post in the group. The banned user will still technically be part of the group, so the ban can be overturned in two ways: an Admin kicking the banned member, allowing them to rejoin, or the Owner reversing the ban and reinstating membership. Note: This form of moderation can only be enacted by the group Owner.
The only time a forum moderator[4] will moderate a group is when a complaint has been made about how a specific group is run. To make such a complaint, press the report button next to a group's Join/Leave button and fill out the ensuing feedback form specifying exactly what the problem is.
Badges and Titles:
All this has been rather serious so far so this section is about the fun stuff. Titles and Badges:
Titles can be assigned to group Members by the Owner, who may edit the title at their leisure. Some groups make a habit of assigning titles to the more active members, such as the The Escapist TARDIS Crew.

How do I access user groups? There are multiple links in this post. As an alternative, go into the 'Community' tab at the top of the page, then click the 'User Groups' Sub Tab.
How do I create my own group? STOP right there. First, do a complete search to ensure that your group isn't going to be a duplicate of an existing group. Also, try to avoid making a group that has a vague name, or has no information about what it actually is. When you've done all that, 'create your own group'.
Do not make a group about yourself. I know you were thinking about it
How do I get publicity for my group? There are a few ways to do this. The best etiquette for drawing attention to a group is by adding a link onto something else; make a thread about the group's subject matter and include a link to your group at the end as well as linking to the group in other appropriate contexts. Like say... if someone asks in a thread post if there is a Team Fortress 2 group, you can say; "Why yes there is" And link them to it. The first method has been my method in the past. Making my "Doctor Who Episode" threads and "Discussion about Time" threads. And adding a reference to my group within the thread.
Making a thread about the group itself is not a good idea. First off, such a thread has little in the way of discussion value that is already in the group itself. And second, it just doesn't paint yourself in a good light with the rest of the community if you think your group is important enough to have it's own thread!
In the depths of the Community Tab. There exists those groups who deserve special mention. Ones who are different, successful or just plain interesting. That is what the Featured User Groups section is for. The first User Group was featured on the 23th of May and there is a new one pretty much whenever a good one is recommended to Kuliani. Some have been weekly, others monthly.

You can't claim copyrights on something written on a forum. That's what Kuliani told me after I posted my User Group Help thread and everyone came down on me like a bag of hammers!

If I could say something? You have a lot of clutter groups up there. And when I say clutter groups, I mean groups that aren't active or groups where people couldn't even join if they wanted to.
For example, the Kittens group has been dead for at least 12 months and I doubt a lot of people care about it enough to go back and revive the chat. Hell, Dastardos himself isn't even active on the site anymore.
Another example would be the Avatar Adventure group. Now don't get me wrong, I love the Avatar Adventure RP, it was one of the few things I left here that I believe made an impact (We hold the record for the longest running RP of all time and we were 2nd to reach 100 pages...before it became a common spectacle.), but the group itself isn't open to everyone. In fact, only two people can invite members into it, me and Sam G. Even then, we only invite users who have been in the RP for a while and we believe are good writers.
In short, you might just wanna brush it up a bit. Get rid of the groups that aren't active (This would include most fan groups) and make sure the groups are open to all or require permission at the least.
..I understand.. I was just told to add the Groups anyhow because with people seeing them, that they can make them come back alive again (also people requested some Dead Groups anyhow so I didn't see why not). But yeah.. sorry bout that then.
And I shall add the Group you requested. Sadly, I cannot take out those Groups for others sent me PMs wanting their Group on their spite if it's alive or not. This Thread is pretty much about having all the Groups listed just in case. But thank you for your opinion sir.
