I'm not much for cocktails; the added sugar in most mixing liquids tends to put me in a bad state of inebriation much too quickly, just like wine. It's not that happy, giddy tipsy, either. It's the nasty, sour-stomach, headachey, entire-body-hates-you drunk. I'm not sure why the sugar + liquor does that, but it's never failed to do so. So if I drink liquor at all, it will be straight, maybe on the rocks. I've never gone wrong with a fine beer. There's nothing better on a hot summer night than Bar Harbor's Blueberry Ale or a Wolaver anything. |

Although I do have a couple mixed drink recipes: Mint Julep And here's one for something I call a "Wampire". (It's like a mexican bloody mary.) |

Just a lot for me) I don't really know how to make drinks. I tend to put too much alcohol in, as if I'm 16 and trying to mix drinks when my parents are away. It's kind of sad, really. That's why I stick with the whiskey and the ice. |

I have a moderately amusing anecdote to go with this. So, when I was about 16, I was a busboy at a country club just outside the city where I grew up. It was a fairly snooty place, with a private, closed doors feeling. Everyone knew everyone else and everything was put on a yearly tab, which eliminated tips and promoted excess. Of course, I was highly impressed with it all at my tender age, so I did my best to please the members and did what I was told. Now, disregarding my age and the legal ramifications of serving alcohol, I was young and didn't know what the hell anything alcohol-related was. So the late night when I was asked for "a glass of vodka, on the rocks," I simply followed the instructions. Glass. Vodka. Ice. 'Course, I had no idea what size glass to use, or how much vodka was enough, so I basically pretended I was getting a glass of ice-water. I grabbed a highball glass, tossed a few ice cubes in, and filled the bastard to the rim. Sixteen ounces of Grey Goose landed on that man's table that night. He looked at me with unreadable eyes and said, "Thank you." |

They always served a highball glass filled to the rim with ice and a 1/2 shot of bottom shelf vodka. Then waited for 20 minutes before bringing me the glass, which I think was under the heat lamps. |

I'm all about efficiency, and for my money Ten High gets it done, every time. What is it that you Aussie's drink out there? A buddy of mine brought some back from a semester abroad and it was rib-ticklin' good. To actually contribute to the thread though, have any of you tried Jose Black? Replace your rum or whiskey with this and my my, what a delectable apertif. |

If I have to have something mixed (which generally means the beer selection is piss-poor) then I'll go with a gin and tonic. If I'm using my own gin then it's close to a 1/3 gin to tonic ratio. Should be served on the rocks with a slice of lime. |

Alrighty, first things first. Noone here drinks Fosters. Its shit and I actually can't think of a bottle shop here that sells it. Coopers Pale Ale I'm also a big fan of Guiness, but thats not australian and you have to go to an Irish pub to get it. Personally I won't drink any less than that. My old man works for coopers so I used to get it for free. Tis the standard beer in Adelaide (South Australia), where its made and where I grew up, but its considered a premium beer (and has a premium price) everywhere else. As far as the hard stuff goes, I'm gathering its similar to the US. Standard whiskeys are Jack, Johnny, Jim etc. Vodka is a standard mixer for anything fruity and black sambucca and tequila will garuntee a fun night. Probably the most Aussie drink going round would be bundaberg rum, but I'm not able to drink it due to a bad experience when I was 15.............. anyway, I'll contribute more to the thread. Don't know what this one is called but damn its a feisty one. shot glass |

The straw is kinda important. If you've made it right, the tobasco sauce will float on the top but to get the full effect of the drink you need the sauce to be the last thing to hit the back of your throat, which is where the straw comes in. Just make sure its a very little straw, or even cut a normal sized straw into 2 or 3 pieces, otherwise it can get a little awkward. trust me on this....... |

Wow, Goofo, does that have a name? If you make it "double shot glass" I bet you could call it "Vomit on Command". Holy cow does that ever sound vicious. Speaking of liquid death, however, courtesy of a little bar in San Luis Obispo, CA called Bull's Tavern, here is truly the most foul thing I've stood near that didn't include an anisette. Thats pretty much it yeah. The first time I had one I had it bought for me, along with half a dozen of my friends but mysteriously the guy who bought them DIDN'T buy one for himself. I didn't realise this until after i'd spent 5 minutes gargling my beer trying to "make it stop! make it stop!" I don't think its likely to make you throw up though, regardless what it does to your stomach, you won't be thinking about that for a little while. I'll expect an update over the weekend about how friday night at casa fletch went :) as per the usual I'll add a little more. This one was my favourite drink leading up to and around the time of my 21st, I call it a triple black but could also be dubbed "vomit on command" shot glass of black sambucca, double sized shot glass if your really keen. |

I'll have to side with Lara on this one - A good beer is hard to beat. I'm very partial to bitters, it's a taste you really learn to devlop when you live in europe for awhile, my favorite being John Smith's bitter (not available in the states unfortunately). I do, however, enjoy a fruity conconction from time to time, with my all time favorite being a Hairy Buffalo: 1/5 part Stoli Vodka, Orange juice, and 2 shots of grenadine Yeah, pretty tame when compared to what some of you have been posting here, but I'm of the kind that prefers to *enjoy* my drinks occasionally ;P Call me crazy. |

When compared to some of the suicidal drinks that have been posted in this thread, you're damn right it sounds tame! How about a little vinegar and frank's hot - does that give it that extreme edge we're looking for here? And FYI Fletch... you have partied with ME. |

The tagline for the Off-Topic Discussion forum suggests there would be drink recipes and to date I have seen none. soooo.......
My most recent discovery is called a chocolate bullet. Shot of black sambucca in a glass filled to the top with chocolate milk. Sounds terrible, looks revolting, tastes fantastic (unless you don't like liquorice of course)
Last time I drank them, I woke up on my couch with a large bruise on my head and no recollection of the previous night!
