Really? Because Cleverbot has quite a bit more spelling and grammar skills than most people I've seen online. At least it has the few times I've used it.

Cleverbot takes phrases from conversation and stores them away to use in new conversations with new people.
That's why more than half the time you'll get wierd responses to questions, or the same response over and over again. It all matters how you word what you say.
Cleverbot managed to confuse the shit out of me at one point. The following is the conversation as word-for-word as i can remember it: Cleverbot: What is Skynet? I do remember a creepypasta about something like this once. It was about an "ai" that claimed to be a person kidnapped and forced to talk to people online. The whole premise of the story was that there wasnt enough information to figure out whether he was an ai or not, so you just had to guess. People had whole 3 page discussions about it, showing their evidence for what they thought was the truth. Interesting stuff.
Yeah, by the time I got around to trying this, 'David' has most likely tortured this 'Athabel' and sent her insane.

From what I've learned about Cleverbot, is that it learns as people interact with it. If you manipulate the bot to respond in a certain way, this will slowly become the default response.
Alternatively: easter eggs. The original creator is probably named David, and The Facility is probably a reference.

Cleverbot is more like an automated response machine more than an AI. Tried holding a conversation for about 5 minutes and it responds appropriately but does not understand many of the question. But it a great start and I really like answering questions with a questions as somehow force it to give answers that were completely out of topic just to give an answer.
Cleverbot is just annoyingly stupid, if you ask me. It always asks me the questions I ask back, or distrupts any viable answer and asks a random question out of the blue.
I asked "do you know about the facility" and cleverbot went on describing ... war? DAFUQ.
I don't get why this is so popular, it's not even well programmed, like Siri for example.
