There was a poll but then the website decided to troll me and make me look like a faggot.

You answer which your favorite is.
It's that simple.
Mine would personally be techno or rock, but probably techno.

Your poll got eaten. Thread dead.

My favorite genre is metal though.

Might want to edit in said 7 genres...

Forgot about the poll and literally interpreted what you said, so I will now list the seven genres I listen to most:

JRock
Baroque
Classical
Romantic
Rock
(whatever Rob Dougan writes...)
Game remixes (a lot of my music comes from OCRemix)

I;m one of those people that have a hard time picking favorites. Like my favorite color is Rainbow. So I don't have a favorite type of music, I love it all. :)

Why should I have to pick just one favorite??

No Idea I cant single out any particular genre

I tend to favor altenative/electronic and somitmes rap

give me another year or so when my music taste becomes more set

I'm very precise, and clued up about music genre's, so here goes...

Trip-Hop
Shoegaze/Nu-Gaze
Grunge/Post-Grunge
Downtempo
UK Garage/Future Garage
Art Rock
Folk
Power Metal
Progressive Metal
Psychedelic Rock
Blues Rock
Hardcore
Electronica
Dream Pop/Progressive Pop
Madchester/Baggy
Indie
Drum and Bass/Jungle
Dubstep/Post-Dubstep

That's pretty much every genre I like, it's more than seven, but I'm very diverse when it comes to music.

My favourite are just Jpop, House (Dance) music) and soundtracks. These days I am out of touch with the current music industry.

What techno artists do you like? It's rare to find someone who's actually into it on non-techno related forums.

I think it's just a catch all term, or a Metalhead/Rockist way of saying Electronic Music due to their lack of understanding when it comes the Electronic genres, and what bands are associated with said genres.

Techno in itself however is a load of rubbish IMO, and not many people like it.

Favourite genre for me is Trance, with the occasional venture into Electro House, but Trance is by far my favourite genre. As for artists, favourite producers are Menno de Jong, Arty, Mat Zo, Above & Beyond and Eric Prydz under his various different aliases.

That's not to say I limit myself to electronic music, I do listen to other genres from time to time, but most of my listening time is dedicated to electronic music.

Also, sadly, I think this is true:

I've come across a bunch of people saying "it's all the same", without realizing there's as much diversity in electronic music as there is in say, metal.

My favorite genre: classical (this includes music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras).

I can't get into today's music. All pop music today is written for clubbing, all mainstream rap sucks, and anyone at my school who listens to rock and metal don't talk about it...

DragonLord Seth:
What's your favorite genre of music?

Heavy metal.
I enjoy pieces from pretty much every genre, but metal rules. :)

You're probably right with the first part, don't agree with the second (I particularly like UK acid techno) - techno is one of the longest-lasting genres of electronic music and some of the most celebrated artists and DJs have created and played it; Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, and Hardfloor to name a few. I'm not keen on the minimal stuff though, bores me if I'm honest.

I enjoy pretty much every kind of music there is, but I do lean towards the aforementioned techno plus psychedelic trance, ambient/experimental, jungle and breakcore more than anything. So much depends on mood though.

Never heard of Acid Techno before, heard of Acid House, and Acid Jazz though (with the latter being put together with Trip-Hop quite a bit).

I never really got into Techno or Trance, to be honest, along with IDM as well, they are probably the only genres of electronic I don't listen to.

I feel like I've been here before...anyway, I listen to all sorts of genre's but most of what I listen to tends to fall under Rock/Metal usually of the Progressive or the lovely umbrealla term Extreme Metal variety.

Instrumental, Orchestral, or Neo-Classical are my favorites. I'm not so much a fan of vocals unless it has a full, moving, powerful voice behind them.

Almost all forms of Electronica.
Some of my favorite sub-generas are house, electro, dubsteb, drum n bass, etc.
my favorite artists include Daft Punk, Deadmau5, DJ Shadow, Noisia, Skrillex, Amon Tobin, etc.

Now this is a refreshing and original thread!
OT: Metal. Specifically thrash and heavy metal. Listen to a lot of Swedish trallpunk as well.

I don't really have an absolute favorite seeing as I just love music.

Metal and classical I will say I listen to more with a heavy leaning towards classical.

I'm not much of a Modern Era fan. I mean, there are some that I like, but there are some that just leave me cold, but Baroque is my personal favorite though.

I agree about today's music, almost all of it I ignore since I don't think it's that interesting or even good.

I'll pretty much listen to anything if I like how it sounds, but I'd say my favourite genre would probably be metal.

I think Joan Jett said it best...

All flavors. Punk, metal, industrial, soft, hard, folk, grunge, whatever. I love them all.

For me it has to be:

Grime
Dubstep
Drum n bass
Some Jungle and Reggae too.

Some Dubstep, Drum N Bass and rock. For rock, I don't really stick to a specific sound but my basic requirements are that I have to know what the singer is...well...singing 75% of the time. This generally makes me like Christian Rock above other subgenres, but I primarily love it in general. I also like classic rock like Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Guns and Roses, etc. I also like Country since I grew up with it.

It also depends on my mood and what I'm doing. If I'm driving, I normally have Country playing.

Recently it's been all about the hip-hop, electronica (used in a broad sense) and industrial.

I like a lot of genres, but my favorites are black metal, death metal, and the melodic counterparts of both genres.

I'm all about classic rock (The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, etc) as well as Motown (The Temptations, The Miracles, Marvin Gaye). Also, I enjoy reggae, although my knowledge of reggae only really extends to a few artists, Bob Marley being the primary figure.

Edit: I also enjoy some meaningful hip-hop. Common is my favorite artist in that genre.

Metal (allmost all kinds), Jrock, Visual Kei, jazz, Blues, EBM and classic rock sometimes.

Well my main genre of music is Anime-J-Pop, meaning i mainly listen to OSTs, OPs and EDs of anime.
But i have other stuff on my ipod like Queen, Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz, James bond openings, RHCP and some other random good songs. But 80% of my ipod is Anime-J-Pop.
here is one of my favourite Anime-J-Pop songs just for reference

Metal/Rock for me.
Never really been anything else.
I can listen to some other music but it just never kicks me the same way.

Listen to ALL the genres!

...

Except Dubstep.

And screamo, indie, trance, etc.

Oh, and anything made in Japan.

I listen to a lot of Chillout and Trance at the moment. In particular Psytrance... Oh, and anything from Warp Records... Loves that I do!

But my ipod has at least something from every genre on it... (Except Jazz... I hate Jazz... :|) From Classical to Thrash Metal, From Punk to Opera, From Breakcore/Terrorcore to Classic Rock, and from Dubstep (all varieties there of) to Rap/hip hop... its all there!

I have no favourite genre of music. Even music I don't really listen to that often. My favourite songs come from many genres.

Good metal? I'll like it.
Good dubstep? I'll like it.
Good rap? I'll like it.
Good speedcore? ...erm... I'm waiting for that to be honest. I'm hoping I can drop that preconception of speedcore ASAP.

When I say good, I mean (I like).

NWOBHM
Power Metal
Prog Metal
Symphonic Metal

And then anything else i like the sound of i guess. Punk-Rock, straight rock, a bit of techno, a few anime-theme tunes etc, classical...

Since there's no poll, I guess I'll list a few.

Happy/UK Hardcore is what I started out liking, so much fun to listen to.
Disco/Funky House or French Touch. I don't know exactly what to call it, both are really funky and I love the rhythms they produce.
Techno, mostly Hardgroove and Schranz/Hard Techno. This genre is great when you need to focus on something. It seem to put you in a trance if you get into it.

Though if someone can tell me the difference between Disco House and French Touch that'd be awesome.

LapFox Trax was techno the last time I checked, sometimes the songs start out slow, but they're all techno awesomeness.
Avoid if you despise furrydom.
