As a Canadian, I've never heard of her before. Though that isn't saying much, I haven't heard of a lot of people. Poll more Canadians before drawing conclusions about the land of Beavers.
Wait, isnt Whitney Houston that AND IIIIIIIIIIAIIII WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU woman? Must... Not... Post... Witch Is Dead... Song... Seriously though, what a shame? I dunno, I cant say I was a big fan of her music. But damn, 48s too young. I would offer my condolences to her family and friends, but I doubt they are reading this. Rest in peace Whitney. Just do me a favor and stop singing when I join you up there.
Kevin Costner finally has a night off and THIS happens..................
My mother was a big fan of her. She'll be rather unhappy when she hears the news. I also liked her music. I definately will miss her.
What a shame... she was a good woman... what a rotten way to die.
One of the greats, truly. People might think of her poorly now, but there is no denying that her work has had a HUGE impact, not only on music but also on our culture as a whole.
Her name doesn't sound strange but I'm afraid I don't recall a single song of her...
Oh my God, indeed! O.o | |
Holy shit. How do you people not know this? Now, I was never really a fan of hers in the slightest (respect her talent though), but I knew who she was before she died.
damn thats sad which automatically thinks of the reception she got from her last tour which was aparently "not so great" but that doesnt matter...somone with actual talent has died, which is always sad
I'm sad that she died, because she was a human being, and not having some feeling about a person dying isn't healthy. But I wasn't really a huge fan of hers, so it doesn't effect me all that much. I was much worse off when I found out Richard Jeni or Gary Gygax died.
I had to ask this as well, ended up finding out the answer on wikipedia. Apparently she was some singer.
I have never heard of here before, but I looked up some of her music and it was impressive. Not really my style but impressive none the less. Sorry for friends and family.
Wow! I am surprised there are people who haven't heard of her! Although it seems to be the Americans to me who knew her most! I onl know of her really because I am a nineties child, and thats when she was biggest... Oh, and the Dolly Parton cover of I will always love you, that we have all realised we know! :P She was also in 'The Bodyguard' if you are more of a film buff, and saw that! I'm sure you all know 'I'm every woman' too? I know this kind of music is not to everyones taste, but she was definately hailed in modern times as a great influence, before she was unfortunately taken by drug abuse...!
If someone's just not into R&B, gospel or soul, they'll never have heard of someone in that genre, it would seem. I only know her because My Love Is Your Love sometimes appeared on the radio in those days, and only the song, it's only today I learned she was the artist behind that song. My musical taste like many of my generation started with house and moved on into genres that developed from that. By the time she was making her last songs I was raving about at stuff that had about four times as many beats per minute.
I'm more surprised that there are people who haven't heard of her more than i am surprised she's dead. She was a colossal drug addict though so her dying really isn't a surprise at all.
Damn. Houston, Houston, do you read? This is a sad day for NASA and space travel. :(
I'm Australian, and the only way I know about her is through various works of parody, Family Guy and such. Because of this, I'm surprised there was more than a downward spiral. Before anyone takes offense, this is hyperbole.
Well, I'm not surprised the kids haven't heard of her. She hasn't really been relevant for about 15 years. In her time, she was pretty much the most popular singer on the planet, with one of the biggest selling albums of all time. And then it all gets flushed away due to drugs. It's a damn shame.
TBH, I only know of her due to the much publiced drug stuff. Still, a death is tragic, but I don't like the way people are comfortable with hordes of nameless faceless people dying every day, but not someone who was on TV or whatever.
I laughed so hard when I saw this post XD I feel a tiny bit bad about that since someone's dead and all, but still XD
Another thing that will make it more tragic to her fans is that she has died at the start of Black History Month. From what my colleagues are telling me she is a huge star amongst the black communities of the US, particulary Black Christians because of her ties with Gospel and Soul singing. I have a feeling this is going to feature a lot in the news today! (12th)
To be perfectly, brutally honest, she brought this on herself. It's tragic that her life ended up this way, but she was irresponsible and decided to do drugs and drink irresponsibly. Wasn't a fan of her music, but I know many other people who love her music and will definitely be devastated. I just hope they keep in mind that her reckless behavior led to her own death.
Somewhere... A crack dealer is crying himself to sleep tonight. Wondering how hes going to move all these rocks that she wont be using. RIP Whitney,
Houston, we have a drug problem. Also, obligatory image:
| |
It's a sad truth... Unfortunately a lot of people who could have been great get sucked into situations like this, adn it's bad! But I agree with you, people should be careful in how they choose to treat her as a rolemodel, especially when in front of kids... I still haven't seen anything saying how she died though... Maybe it will be like Brittany Murphy, and 'natural causes'.
I'm going to go so far as to say it's not especially tragic. She liked doing drugs. So when she got rich and famous, she did them a lot. I didn't know her and I doubt anyone else here did either, so who are we judge her life choices? She probably wouldn't have had it any other way, otherwise she'd still be alive.
It couldn't be a crack dealer for CRACK IS WHACK!!! That's literally all I know about Whitney Houston...
I've heard of a few of her songs, and I honestly don't feel too bad about her death. I will respect her as a human being and don't feel the need to punish dead people who didn't actually ruin the lives of others. Though, in the upcoming weeks, I will hate her. Because of this:
| |
Meh, I mean that's sad, it's a little sad when anybody dies, especially when they are younger or not that old but she really didn't mean anything to me, so just another day I guess.
Drugs are a hell of a drug.
There are people who don't know who she was? ...Were you all living in plastic bubbles? The Bodyguard? Geez.
I just cant believe she was only 48. She looked so much older and was she like 18 in BodyGuard or was it a much later film than i thought? Drugs are bad mmmmkay?
No fucking idea who Whitney Houston is but the name is familar in a "thats a famous person right?" kind of way. Just gives me another reason to add to the list on why not to watch tv. Which is a considerably large list by now. Probably mean another wave of mediocre too soon jokes to put up with. Fuck I hate it when unimportant famous people die and by hate I mean get annoyed at the mild inconvenience. >.> EDIT: I'm Australian btw.

So, the singer Whitney Houston has died...

I know she had a great voice (although I wasn't personally a fan of her music) and it was a shame that she entered such a downward spiral, but this news seems to have completely shocked my American colleagues a lot more than my British and Australian counterparts.
I suppose I am asking, where you are from, what did she mean to you? and what do you think of her downward spiral and ultimate demise?
