here's the full story, and i'll say, it's bullshit

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/why-star-wars-prequels-better-original-trilogy-160300514.html

now moviebob recently told us why we should back off phantom menace but still give it no respect (a very good well structured arguement, moviebob, but honestly, i feel so bad for john williams because he made such a beautiful score that got wasted on a shit movie). so yes, we should just give phantom menace some space. but now yahoo says it, and the other 2 prequels, had a much more intelligent plot than the originals? GLOVES ARE OFF MUTHA FUCKA

so tell me fellow escapists, which one's better; original trilogy or prequels? no wait, lemmie guess, original trilogy? ....yesssss, (mega48man you handsome devil, you still got it)

but seriously now, I've learned a LONG time ago to not take yahoo's articles seriously, they're always full of crap and remind me of my highschool's newspaper; crap research. so lets hear you're angry nerd fueled responses to this poor misinformed editor's article.

Wait... people care what "Yahoo" thinks? Now that's news to me.

Oh, and something about Star Wars... *posts obligitory "Han shot first!" sign.*

Yahoo was paid to say this, obviously, I dont understand why anyone is upset, they were paid to make shit up, this happens every day, especially with movie reviews.

What? Someone out there likes the prequel trilogy better than the originals? Oh no! Everyone run for your lives, the apocalypse is incoming! Run into your nearest bomb shelters, hide your kids, hide your wife! It is times like this we must stand strong as a people and face down our enemies!

Actually, I'm not shocked at the possibility that some would like the prequels better, they do have their strengths. But those strengths are in the realm of combat coordination and graphics, NOT acting or plot, which is what Yahoo was praising.

I'm not inclined to take this seriously however. Especially the moment it became clear the author was using it for his own brand of cheap political demagoguery.

Besides E-Mail is there anything positive about Yahoo? Almost all of their "news" stories all inane bits about a D-List celebrity

I didn't like Phantom Menace better than New Hope, but I did like it more than Return of the Jedi.

Oh no, what have I done!? I've publicly said that I enjoyed one of the prequels more than the original. Now the internet is gonna beat me with sticks!

Feh, apathy is apathetic. I don't really care about what Yahoo thinks on this issue.

A New Hope was fantastic, and the Phantom Menace was alright. Not great, but alright.

Lucas said Greedo shot first... the thread was posted here somewhere but I don't care enough to look for it :P

Yep, he sure did, but like the whiny kid who's always complaining that we're using the wrong rules at my D&D group, I just ignore him, and trust my own original VHS release, where it's very clear that there is only one shot fired, and we all know who ends up dead.

And damnit... you just baited me... didn't you?

Well, the difference is between one annoying CGI character, or hundreds of annoying teddy bear characters. I can see that.

However, I challenge anyone who says that Endor's Space Battle is not the best of the films (including Space Coruscant)

While I can appreciate the points raised in the article, Palpatine is basically Hitler+Bush jr. rolled into one, that doesn't make the movies enjoyable as films for entertainment purposes. The acting is basically atrocious all around, the characterization of Anakin is just annoying, and the over-reliance on visual effects in place of good story-telling makes me want to stick a fork in my ear and give my brain a good stir.

Say what?

I don't out right hate "Phantom Menace" as some people do, but it's definitely the worst of all the films. Just 'cos it's now in 3D I wouldn't say it becomes almighty and superior.

Haha, well said =D

The prequels are better in nearly every way, including story and acting. And it wouldn't be too far fetched to assume that's the majority opinion. The Star Wars nerds are simply more vocal about it, because to most people Star Wars isn't really even a masterpiece, especially the first three (which have aged terribly, and quite frankly not very good.)

Of course, that's just my opinion.

I trust Yahoo's opinion with about the same weight as anyone answering questions on Yahoo answers. The originals were better than the first three (in my opinion) by a long shot, this is just a marketing ploy. If A New Hope was coming out now they'd be saying it was the best.

*Snerk*

Either Yahoo is wrong or people have no taste...which STILL makes them wrong.

That's about the end of THAT discussion...

George Lucas is always full of shit though, you never know what to believe with the guy. To him, every single change he makes is "as it was originally intended".

I liked Jar-Jar Binks. I mean, I was a kid, and he was more or less made to appeal to us. And even if I understand why people think he was horrid (and a new take on the crude, slightly racist stereotype), I still sort of like him. Even if it's in the same way I like the little dragon from Mulan.

And, as I will say to the day that I die, come on... It's still just Star Wars.

On a good day, Yahoo's "news" involves finding the most sensational article title they can to troll for hits.

Okay, that is the second freakiest avatar I've ever seen.

Now I should probably read your post...

Right, sarcasm. Um, carry on then.

Lucas is wrong. Watch the original footage, Han shot first.

I stopped reading after the writer blamed Bush... Even though the Phantom Menace was released in 1999.

My personal favorite Star Wars was the Phantom Menace. Don't shoot me...

V > IV > I > VI > III > II

In my personal opinion.

But yeah, the article is bunch of pretentious shit.

Wait.... "Yahoo" is still in business? I haven't seen anyone use yahoo in nearlyFive years.

Okay, yes, the Star Wars movies are good movies, but damn. The story isn't that good as some of you want to make it, and the fourth movie is with no doubt one of the most boring movies i've seen, frickin nothing happens.

Heronblade:

Ah, yes, the hallowed acting and plot. Are we still talking about the same movie of which Alec Guiness himself said the lines they were forced to spout were silly and idiotic, and that he was saddened for the rest of his life that he was constantly associated with that dribble?

"It's the ship that completed the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs", oh yes, someone should have gotten an Academy Award for that one!

But the plot was still excellent and innovative! Well, no. The plot of a small rebellion rising up to defeat the big bad empire against all odds is only slightly less common as a literary device than "The villain dies". There was really nothing about the plot that wasn't standard, boring old cliché long before the movie was made.

Looking at A New Hope as a movie as opposed to some holy relic from ancient times that must be worshipped at all times, it isn't very good.

i think they all the same original and new. Just popcorn flicks.

i didn't like any of the star wars movies but if i had to watch one it would be the phantom menace as i dont care for star wars cannon and the original trilogy had far worse acting and worse action scenes but beyond that there is no difference in quality
(prepares for shit storm)

A comprehensible story is simplistic and therefor not as good as a jumbled mess. Sure, yahoo, sure.

And minister of finance of Kazakhstan thinks that Halo Wars was the best RTS of last decade.

I somehow just dont care about what yahoo thinks about movies or what someones grandma (who happens to be important person in toothpick industry) says about thermonuclear reaction.
It just seems a little random, you know? I dont want to bash on OP, but there has been few more of these around here lately and only thing about what someone important thinks about something else important while there is no connection, is gossip.

Plot of the prequel trilogy:

A boy rises through the ranks of the Jedi, from simple slave, to one of the stronger practitioners of the Force, but his feeling betray him, and allow an in-Sidious evil to guide him onto a dark path, It's a tragic story, set around a backdrop of a galaxy slowly descending towards a war which seems to be the right path, but will eventually lead to destruction.

Plot of the 'original' trilogy:
Kid discovers he has super powers, gathers together a ragtag group of heroes in order to defeat the evil Empire and take down their top general, who happens to be DUN-DA-DUN! His own FATHER! And the princess is his sister! Together, they defeat the evil empire with the aid of the courageous rebels.

Yeah, prequels had a halfway-decent plot, while the 'original' trilogy reads like, oh, 90% of the jRPGs in existence.

So when did Yahoo became a valid place for reviews/ discussion about media? Oh right, never! Yahoo is one of the last places I read for stuff like this.

Which just goes to show why acting and writing make such a huge difference in the quality of a movie, simple plot or not.
You don't need a super complex plot to have a great movie whereas a more complex plot does not guarantee a better movie. Especially not with the prequels god awful direction and writing. It is a shame because a few of the actors were decent, they just had to read that awful garbage.
