So I went to KFC.... (gross topic ahead)

Craorach:
Highly unlikely that it was caused by KFC since it takes between 24 and 48 hours for food poisoning to effect you.

That said, if you're not used to fried and fast food, the grease and way KFC is cooked could have effected you pretty badly anyway.

Dude, you're so wrong. Food poisoning can easily occur after just a few hours, if it is caused by a bacterial toxin for example, and it most often occurs within 24 hours of consumption, though it can take days. Of course, metabolic rates and immune systems vary, which can also affect how quickly one is affected and the severity of the illness.

Anyway, fast food is disgusting. Even when I ate meat I steered clear of that shit. If I wanted such an experience I'd just eat a drumstick, guzzle half a litre of oil and punch myself in the gut. It would save me the trip to the "restaurant".

Sorry to hear that TC I had that with shell fish, my pants never stopped smelling like the sea :(. But the only fast food I would eat is a chick fil a spicy chicken thing cause well I rather eat chicken then beef from a fast food place (Surprise surprise a black guy loves chicken)

...I honestly wouldn't blame an entire chain of restaurants for that. It sorta depends on the management of a specific one.

Of course, me being from Oregon, I've been used to meticulously clean restaurant food my entire life (we have among the strictest food service laws in the US). On the off chance that I go to a fast food place (doesn't happen often), if they've been operating for more than a few months, they're pretty much guaranteed to be meticulously clean...
That said, I went to southern California a few years back and had breakfast at a Jack-in-the-Box (pretty much my favorite fast food up here, not so much down there). I nearly died two days later because I couldn't keep down water. Had to get a saline IV and a bunch of antibiotics at the VA hospital.

So yeah, write your congressman, try to get these places inspected on a regular basis... and then they either clean up their act or go under.

I've never gotten food poisoning from fast food, but I have gotten it from eating at a Zellers restaurant and from eating undercooked meat. Neither times were as bad as your experience.

As for KFC, as I said, never got food poisoning from there, but it seems like everytime I eat there I at least get an upset stomach, usually followed by mild, short-lasting diarrhea... TMI?

I'm one of the people wo can eat a KFC Double Down and ask for seconds, so I can't really sympathize here, but I will say this: Food poisoning does not sound fun.

The closest I can say I've gotten to food poisoning from a fast food place is two instances:
- first is when a KFC opened up by me, so someone got the bright idea to have it for dinner several times in a week, and as a result, I didn't feel too hot.
- second was more recent, but this time from McDonald's. Not entirely sure what caused it, but my bet is, I had too many McRibs.

So overall, haven't really had bad experiences with fast food, food poisoning wise. It's mainly that your body isn't used to the food, which is part of the reason you reacted badly.

Oh man! YOU ARE MAKING ME HUNGRY FOR SOME FRIED CHICKEN!

I want to get me a double down!

THAT'S IT, ONE OF THOSE FUCKERS.

Fried chicken with bacon, cheese, and some horribly delicious greasy sauce in between (strangely the most prominent flavour is salt, not grease. No really, they taste like someone dumped salt on them).

YUM!

No fast food doesn't bother me... but then I can eat pretty much anything: really good cheeses, spicy Thai foods, beans and greasy stuff, raw vegetables... whatever, stuff doesn't bother me.

My first trip to Finland, boy was I excited, first time I ever left the country... We stopped at a café, just a small place, right in the middle of town. I had a chicken sandwich... I am never going back to stupid Finland again! :(

I got a head instead of a leg from KFC once. Instead of complaining, I bought more chicken and made a full chicken.

ker snip

nope, but a fun related factoid I'd like to share about KFC

i got fired from there, for arguing with the manager about how done the chicken was. i said it wasn't, as it was frozen still when it went in, she said it was, and bam, jobless (this was back in the early 00s btw)

but, in general, you don't go to the KFC in my town if you want 'fast food' takes for ever to get any thing out of them -.-

Wow I guess it got bad recently, I mean it wasn't ever great but I remember in high school the one near us was decent enough and was filling. Again not really good even for fast food but for the cost? eh

But, what else did you eat that day? Why do you automatically assume it was the kfc?

I use McDonalds as a detox after a night out, or a few hard days at work... it has the same effect on me as a laxative... without fail...! :/

Im just curious but, did you consider that perhaps you might have caught something from the pet store? If they deal in foreign animals thats always a risk factor.

Either way KFC is notorious for its poor hygiene, its practically a cultural stereotype like with kebab shops. But I can understand your reaction if you dont usually eat fast food. When I started working out & losing weight I weened myself off anything greasy. After a month or so when I tried some fries they made me feel like crap.

If you have a healthy diet then you would have a low bacteria count in your colon but as sson as you introduce any foods with large quantities of high energy molecules like like lipids & carbs then they go nuts & explode into huge numbers, usually resulting in a huge gas output as a biproduct, hence any bloating & the runs.

The last food that ever gave me the squirts oddly enough was subway, though its never happened again.

My local KFC has never been anything other than finger lickin' good.

The McDonalds however, puts the Meat in Meatiocre.

i once ate a tuna pizza from my local supermarket.
i guess it was not refrigerated well since i spend the entire next day in hospital hooked up on sodium chloride solutions.

shit happens.

its 2012 people, fast food is so 90's, learn to cook !

Never had any problems and I don't really eat Fast Food.

I'm thinking you got unlucky and the chicken wasn't cooked properly or kept warm properly, Chicken is the worst for making you ill if it's not looked after and preped properly.

After botched surgery (woo socialised medicine!) I developed a real sensitivity to any amount of fat/oil for about a year, but that was more a "collapse and go into shock as your stomach tries to dissolve itself" kind of experience than blowing chunks.

KFC though...I could never stand that even before, so oily.

I can eat fast food easily, but NEVER chicken in any form, especially kfc. Fast food joints just seem to be bad at cooking chicken. Biting into a chicken leg when theres still blood? Yeah, if that was steak that'd be fine but as soon as I saw blood in the chicken I knew that was a bad sign.

I guess I'm kinda lucky, I eat a lot of fast food and have never had food poisoning. I go to McDonalds or Subway every time I'm at college for food, I've even spent a couple of months eating sandwiches from supermarkets (Which everyone tells me gives you food poisoning)

I've only had KFC once, due to it not being near to where I live. It was fine, service was pretty good it tasted great and was very filling for its price (I also didn't get the lethargic feeling I get after a large McDonalds meal)

Though I do get stomach pains if I eat raw vegetables... I guess I'm used to all my food being covered in oil, salt and/or gravy...

Your just eating something your not used to. Ive eaten it 3 times in the past week, and nothing.(I dont usually eat it this much).

I think KFC is wrank in general. I don't mind some fried chicken with herb and spices in breadcrumb/batter, but it better have some damn flavour to it. I personally find KFC to be too sloppy - its chicken is soaked in grease every time. Not nice.

McDonalds chicken is better; while it is pumped with water at least they don't drown it in oil. If I ever find myself at KFC with friends I usually just pick up some popcorn chicken as it's the most tasty and least greasy of all their chicken. but I prefer oven-baked, or fried in healthy oils, etc.

The only "greasy" fast food I like is a take away - Indian curries. Although the types of curry I order are the British variants.

Rule of thumb, no harm in trying something new. In fact I take that as a law that if I haven't tried it I can't judge. But if it ain't for you, nobody's forcing you to eat it. As for making you violently ill; complain and get compensation if it troubled you that much. You will find it wasn't the companies fault but the chefs that this happened. What you described couldn't have been a normal reaction to any kind of food unless it was poisoned; and by poisoned I mean contaminated.

Having been in this situation quite a few times ( I get violently sick from stress), drink as much as you can and then immediately throw it up.

The sooner your stomach is clear, the sooner you'll get better and the water helps. If it's being problematic, mix in one spoon of salt and one spoon of sugar. One helps it come up, the other helps when it comes up.

Midgeamoo:
I'm pretty sure actual food poisoning lasts for a while, and you'd know if you got actual food poisoning, you lose a lot of weight by the time you've shaken it off.

Nah, mild food poisoning - from urine/fecal matter - is no real worse than a bad hangover. Often the two are so similar as to be indistinguishable.

Just drink, blow chunks and lie down in a place that's chilled, dark and quiet. Oversensitivity is a bugger in these situations.

I'd go with the people above though - Salmonella from being near the parrots is as likely as the KFC being undercooked.

Oh, and watch for belching...that means there's still stuff wanting to come up.

idarkphoenixi:
-snip-

Quick question. Where do you live? I'm hoping stateside but I can't decipher from your post.

Before you blame the KFC consider what else you had to eat that day. Food poisoning sometimes takes longer than you would realize to come on and while KFC is an easy blame-toy its quite possible there was a different cause.

Amused. Such a sadist :')

But food poisoning from the KFC that fast? Nah, somethin else you ate or did.
Never had an issue with it, though too much grease makes my gut hurt.

Look on the bright side, you probably lost a couple pounds.

Edity edity edit: If water makes your throw up again don't drink it, tap water can be very harsh on your stomach if it's ina bad way. Mix in some sugar and sip it at, or try drink something lightly carbonated like some fruit flavoured water or something. Always works for me, that or lucozade.

My doctor reccomends flat coke (either leave it or add a spoon of sugar to kill the carbonation). Says its as good as those powders they sell that replenish the salts and sugars your body loses with diarrhea but only a fraction of the price

Yeah exactly, it's much better than water. I always have some Lucozade or something when I'm ill, anything that gets sugar in your system is good. Not sure whether carbonation makes a difference, or it doesnt for me at least.

I work at McDonalds so I usually have to eat what we make there. It usually isn't that bad and we are pretty clean there. The only place for fast food I won't eat at all is Burger King. God, smells like you rubbed your hand under a fat guy's armpit.

I have never eaten at a KFC. I did give myself food poisoning once making sausage stew when drunk and I didn't cook the sausages properly. I was really ill!

KFC is just gross.. overuse of everything made to kill you in that place, you could make a slip'n'slide just by throwing their chicken across your living room.

The only thing I ever consider getting from KFC is the popcorn chicken just because it seems like the driest food in that place. (i've had several situations where my only option is KFC)

Iron stomach here.

I never tried KFC but this thread made me want to try and see if there is something that is actually strong enough to mess me up.

If you aren't used to deep fried foods, don't eat them. Your body -will- reject them if you aren't used to it
