I challenge you to find a battle more epic than this! Pages 1 2 3 4 NEXT
Do you like anime? Yes. If so, have you seen Gurren Lagann the series? Yes. It was an epic battle, indeed. But the most epic battle of all time, ever, has got to be this:
I haven't heard of Nichijou. *looks at air date* Oh, it's a pretty recent show. That explains it. Anyhow, it certainly looks interesting. I'll check it out. Based purely on the above fragment, I still think Gurren Lagann (end battle) is more epic. But I might revise that statement once I have seen the whole show of Nichijou.
I'm sure you've realised, but Nichijou is just a skit comedy show, with surprisingly high production values. I've got some really great laughs from it, but you shouldn't expect any Gurren Lagann epicness aside from maybe a few skits.
There is no contest, It's clearly this: Although the V for Vendetta ending comes close, just for clear badassishness and epic speeches. I mean, the scene uses bullettime - with knives!
Found this battle to be quite epic. Actually it's one of the best animated fight scenes I've ever seen. But the finally of this movie is quite awesome too. Supergirl vs Darkseid who really doesn't give a shit most of the time during that fight. Edit: For all those who don't know: This scene is from the movie Superman\Batman - Apocalypse, the figure at the beginning is Granny Goodness (a woman) and this whole scene takes place at Apokalips, the planet of Darkseid.
Pretty much the entirety of Dead Leaves is amazing. The animation is god tier, the action is so OTT its ridiculous and its funny too.
Sure, or was it the guy with a drill bit dick that you liked :P Though I was going to say something else, Dead Leaves reminded me of Triple 6 and Triple 7 so yeah. Awesomeness. That and the giant caterpillar at the end, god the drugs that team was on. Hope you have 50min to spare.
Do I like anime: Nope Most epic battle? Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi. Nuff said.
Another series that flew under my radar. Gotta check it out.
If only because it's the most reasonable unreasonable Gainax production and guitars are cooler than drills. It's a proven fact. Ride on shooting star! Either that or BURNING AMERICAN JUSTICE.
What amazed me about GL was that they upped the action every fucking episode, without fail. I mean there literally were no barriers to making the next fight more intense, they would jusrt make new ones and break them again.
I hope you know the meaning of epic. If you anwsered NO to that question, I advise you to go here: http://thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=epic If you anwsered YES to that question, I still advise you to click the link, you might learn a thing or two. Anyway, I don't think a 20-minute episode can fit an "epic" fight, as it is only in a timespan of 20 minutes. A battle continuing from episode to episode can't count as it breaks the rules. Hopefully anime isn't the only thing to post here. Here's my entry to a battle more "epic" than yours. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gyAPAGv4UM The battle takes 5 hours and has like 51 million HP. I think that's about enough. I'm gonna go and enjoy my camel-toe-posterless wall.
This It's made crazier with the fact that these two guys, Sanada Yukimura and Date Masamune are actual historical figures.
OK, both of them were quite awesome, but if epicness includes scale, the end of The Peacekeeper Wars is hard to top:
In anime I would say any of the dragon ball z fights where is the "final" big baddie. Other then that though, i would say spike vs vicious would get my vote.
.... What the hell did i just watch? It was epic, but, really, What the hell was it?
I always thought that The Boondocks had some pretty epic fight scenes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7ZpZK8-IJU&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XxK3keq6A0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te_uu5n_Aus&feature=fvwrel I don't know I just think that it's a really good quality cartoon. Where the art and sound effects synergize really well. But to be honest im not all that much into Anime.
I was going to quote/reply to that guy who muttered over the definition of 'Epic', but I saw he was banned so I'll just say this, though the battle didn't last long, it was both fighter 'throwing the universe' at eachother pretty much, so in that aspect it does fit. Dead Leaves was a good contestant because of its over-the-top awesomeness and the scale to which the explosions, chases, and battles ensued can be concluded as a lil epic. I personally think that the final battle in History's Stongest Disiple Kenichi was friggin' awesome.
There's a difference between "epic" and "completely ridiculous". I saw the last fight in Guren Lagann (not the rest of the anime though, fuck that) and it didn't seem at all epic to me. Just silly.
I don't know much about anime, but Leipzig, Kursk and Vienna 1683 all pop to mind when I hear 'epic battle'. In terms of games and films, watching the charge of the Rohirrim in the Return of the King was cool, and Total War lends itself to some good clashes.
Can't find a good video anywhere, but Avatar The Last Airbender final battle scene anyone? That scene was Bad. Freaking. Ass. The combination of all four elements, embodied in one person, going ape shit on one man? That, combined with the beautiful animation and scenery, led to the most stunning and epic fight scene to exist. Ever.
Go play the Asura's Wrath demo. That has 2 of em.
Challenge accepted! I DARE you to find a more epic battle!
Erm... well if you define epic in terms of scale then... no I can't top the ridiculousness that is Gurren Lagan but in terms of an intricate battle full of characters you've grown to know and love/hate all written at a pace that does an amazing job of capturing the utter chaos involved then quite frankly nothing tops Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series, in particular Toll the Hounds. That guy knows how to write epic climactic battle scenes. Sadly I can't just Youtube it for you all... but nobody minds reading a ten book series just to see if I'm right do they? Please?
Up anything Cowboy Bebop! And Durarara!! episode 26...although that's not a true fight scene I guess. If we're talking about games, I like Dante vs Vergil/Nero/anything. I really liked the ending for Gurren but I don't focus on the fight scenes too much (I mean they were in mechas as a side point...does that count as fighting?). I'd imagine that if you're looking for fight scenes...watch a boxing anime :P.
Got to say the fight that made my jaw hit the floor has to be Kurosaki Ichigo vs Cifer Ulquiorra, infinitely better than Aizen. When death doesn't stop you, and all it takes it the cry of Orihime to make you virtually undefeatable, there isn't much than can compete. Best video I could find quickly:
What genre are these books? And are they complete or ongoing?
You win. Unless there's a fight between two Magikarps...
So far here, and NOONE mentions Samurai Champloo? Eeeeeh.... I'm disappointed ANYWAY: For ridiculous over the top? There you go.
I'm so confused by what I just watched. I think I'll go have a bath.
How about this one? | |
It's epic high fantasy but vastly different from any form of Tolkienesque world. I usually describe it containing world building of the Tolkien scale, the brutal realism and character depth of George R.R Martin and insane badassery of the anime genre. Add in a healthy dose of philosophy and you've got The Malazan Book of The Fallen. In a interview the author said his intention was for the readers to go on the heros' journey when reading the series, instead of the characters. This might sound like pretentious dribble to some, but for me it struck a real chord with how I feel about the series, even though I did not understand completely what he meant. The main series is completed and clocked in at about 4 millions words. He has two trilogies coming out set in the same world and his co-creator is also writing books that work together with the main series and has 4 of them out by now. Oh, and I came into this wanting to write exactly what Korenith said, so yeah. Nothing beats Malazan battles.
This has to beat anything ever
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5JHE27Q6U4&feature=related My favorite battle in any anime.
Third novel. That final battle scene in it. Still wows me. Definitely awesome novels.

Question 1: Do you like anime?
Question 2: If so, have you seen Gurren Lagann the series?
If you answered the 2nd question with "NO" then stop reading, drop everything you are doing and go watch Gurren Lagann the series (ignore the movies).
If you answered the 1st question with "NO" then just post the most epic battle you have ever seen.
Anyhow...
I challenge you to find a battle more epic than the final battle of Gurren Lagann. Yes, it was unrealistic, over-the-top, WTF, deus ex machina and holy shit. In short, it was awesome. I can not remember any other movie, series or even a game, with such an epic ending as that of Gurren Lagann.
