A Truth About The Internet.

What is one thing that you have learned from the internet about how information is exchanged or how life really works.

For me its realizing that there will always be someone who will find everything on one topic whether it be: a TV show, a band, a comic, or even a scientific theory; and will make it available to everyone.

No political position is so crazy that you can't find anyone who supports it.

9 times out of 10 Wikipedia is correct.

also, if you have a question, why are you asking human beings? Google it.

There is always much more of the same. But there is always worse.

University Professors are jealous that Wikipedia knows more than they do.

All the men are men. All the women are men. All the teenagers are casting for next seasons To Catch a Predator.

There are actually people out there who are more bored than i am :P

There is porn out there that even I wont touch

Oh wow. I was gonna type something, but this. This is it.

The Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory and Sturgeon's Law are constants.

What the internet has shown me is that there are way more judgemental pricks than I ever imagined. Imagined some assholes, but almost everyone. Everyone on the internet give yourself a round of applause for upping the ante on doushbag antics.

If someone makes a program/protocol, 99.99999% of the time it will be fundamentally flawed, really hard to understand, and poorly documented. Also even if that program is the best solution present, the rest of the world will eschew it for something far worse, and we get left with crap standards (like HTML)

That nothing is sacred and if it exists, there's a picture of it having sex with a beloved childhood icon.

Rule 34.

I really wish I didn't know that.

Also:

You spend your whole life watching the pointless crap on the internet and only see a fraction of it.

That some people will use even the most inconsequential things to try and make themselves feel morally superior to you.

Just what I had expected from a pony fan.

/sarcasm.

Actually, I was referring to things like the Xbox 360/PS3 flamewars that went on a few years ago. Never have I seen such tiny flaws inflated to such a huge debate. But sure, read into that what you will. You've pretty much demonstrated my point with that post, and I've also demonstrated it with this reply. Internet snobbery FTW.

That there are actually three different kinds of responses to a piece of work as opposed to the usual 2 - Praise, Criticism and 'DERP RAGE'.

Also, googling anything child-like (My Little Pony: FiM, Pokemon, Digimon, etc.) with Safe-search off is just asking for a bottle of bleach to the eyeballs. Seriously, that shit is just NASTY.

That people think horrible ugly things, and when presented the safety to do so gladly do so...

That people are generally the most evil vile disgusting things to ever exist, basically.

Yay, thanks internet!

That if I'm bored, I always have youtube...... and the Escapist.

:3

that some failures can be so epic that it becomes a winning fail and the internet loves em for it.

and that some fan fiction is best left in the darkest depths of the world

There are a lot of people willing to do good for others and share information, just for the sake of it.

that no matter how good or bad a movie, tv show, band etc. is that someone out there that loves it and there is aways that other person hates it and more often than not they meet on a forum thread about the subject and ruin it for everyone else

One thing I learned from the internet?

I learned this: Shit be whack, yo.

I learned that humanity is beyond all redemption

Thank you Escapist forums!

The net is vast and infinite.

No matter what happens gamers will never be happy

That Lord of the Flies was right.

Everyone thinks everyone who disagrees with them is an idiot, crazy, or part of some grand conspiracy.

Infinet?

That's nothing new: I know people in real life who consider you subhuman for liking music that they don't, and God help you if they can find a 'ism to attach, even tangentially or illogically, to any of your entertainment choices.

As for what I've learned, it's that nobody in a particularly advanced field, like theoretical sciences, or in a particularly advanced branch of their field, like the military, has proffessional obligations and can whittle away their time arguing in 1337 5p34k on the internet. Doctors don't have patients, scientists don't have the limits of human understand to push, and soldiers duties to carry out or wars to fight, all of them have only the internet. Everyone whom you disagree with, and whom you inform of this, is an astronaught or an astrophysicist or Navy SEAL or in possession of an otherwise impressive sounding job title relevant, usually, to the discussion at hand.

There are things that even I find difficult to masturbate to.

Everyone who doesn't agree with everyone else is wrong.

I also believe that TV Tropes is some sort of conspiracy to stop all productivity in the world.

While I used to believe that you can find anything on the internet however my seach finding skill shows that not everything can be found.
No I ain't into anything creepy or weird, I often get asked from my friends who are looking for solution to a problem or specific tutorial in software like Photoshop, Micromedia Flash and 3d Studio Max etc due to being able to find stuff that other would have spend ages looking for.

You couldn't be more wrong... now let me explain why; :P

That there are some people out there who have absolutely nothing except a stupid amount of free-time. See also, people who make Middle-earth/Azeroth/Anything bigger than a multi-story car park on Minecraft. And I bet someone has made that too.
