Being Fat isn't Bad

Note: This thread isn't focusing on just appearance or physical health so read as you wish or check out my TL;DR section in case you want a quick summary.

. A lot of people I talk to whether it'd be on here, on the internet or real life... do not appreciate being fat or fear of getting some fat overall. Now, I perfectly understand why fat is a problem besides some physical issues here and there- people judge them based on their fat. Indeed it is hurtful, even to cause some to lose their self esteems over it but let me tell you why being fat, chubby, or having some fat on you isn't bad as everyone makes it out to be:

We as humans are meant to have fat on us no matter how much we want or will work out trying to gain muscle. Lipids are what I call fat-soluble vitamins for your body, you actually need them in order to function right besides your organs, other cells, ect. See, people think that burning all their fat will make their lives better or feel better about themselves. Yeah being fit is good but overdoing it or constantly burning off all your fat is just as unhealthy as gaining more lipids then usual.

Look at anorexic girls- the media tries to get girls (including guys but girls are the primary focus) to become skinny like the models they display. They want girls to feel bad about themselves even if they're not fat whatsoever. So they do things to themselves such as throwing up, unwilling to eat, run till they pass out.. other forms of activities that does an overload on burning their lipids. When they're finally skinny like the models.. they develop physical problems mainly dealing with their heart and sometimes it even affects their mentality (seriously). The only reason why the media poses all these so called beautiful people is so their products are bought of course. Obvious, but many fall for that.. including the motivation they give off to others who just want to feel better or stand out amongst the crowds.

Another reason people hate having fat or being fat is because.. they feel unattractive. In most cases, people date based on looks and of course if you're not in their tastes they'll be less likely to date you. However, there are many cases where that person won't date you simply because you are not what they're looking for despite looks. Personality has a lot to do with it. I know a great guy who hates being fat, yet because he's very calm minded and kind towards everyone he got with a pretty girl who loves him. Time is the answer for those doubting themselves.. just because you're alone doesn't mean you aren't good enough or because you're to fat (unless your personality is just flat out bad then you'll have a much harder time with this) doesn't mean you're forever alone. It just means the right girl/guy isn't there at the moment until the time comes. I believe everyone has a soul mate and if you are just yourself.. you're going to be with someone I know it.

My point is, being fat or chubby doesn't make you any less of a person. I'd rather have a guy who's "fat" but awesome as a friend then some cool dude who treats me like crap you know? Gamers come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, and kinds (kinds as in what kind of gamer they are depending on the genre they're into). Acceptance isn't about being accepted by everyone or having to make yourself, something else.. just to be treated alright.. acceptance is finding it through the right people and making something of yourself. Many, many famous people have done extraordinary things despite being far or having some fat on them.. here is a list if you want proof (which I mean to see HOW many succeeded in doing well despite what others may think of their physical state.)

- Martin Luther King JR.
- Jackie Gleason
- Fattie Arbuckle
- Rosie Odonnel
- John Goodman
- John Candy
- Oprah
- Senator Ted Kennedy
- Jon Pinette
- Dr. John
- Tom Arnold
- Santa Claus (He's mostly known all around the world.. even though he's fictional, many people adore him especially kids due to his legacy of giving joy and gifts to all and the Christmas spirit despite being fat.)
- George Lucas
- And many more

Besides, if some of your parents are fat (not saying actually very fat but have that stomach going) then you must know they got someone to love them due to personality, talents, or history of some sort that they shared with your other parent. It just saddens me how driven people are due to others insults upon them for being fat and then suddenly their fat holds them back on everything. How is being fat stopping you from doing well in art if you're good at it? How is being fat stopping you from bowling or doing well in football? How is being fat stopping you from anything really? Your will, and life alone is what makes you awesome and I appreciate people who accepting themselves but improving on what needs to change if there's anything wrong like having a temper and destroying your controller over a death on COD (lol I am a COD fan and yes I get upset but not to that point though.)

TL;DR - Being fat isn't really bad at all.. yes there are health risks but the primary issue is what people make of you. Just because you're fat or have a big stomach doesn't make it where you lose skills, talents or motives. If you love doing art, being fat doesn't make you suck at art, nor does it stop you from doing what you love. Also everyone finds love, just time is all it takes to find the person.

Many struggle even if not fat at all because the person they ended up with wasn't right and maybe to much on their looks. I know a guy who's fat yet got a really pretty girl and they're working out fine. Just takes time to find someone and even I am struggling to find the right girl.

Question: How do you feel about people who are fat? If you're fat, are you ashamed at all and if you are does this Thread help you understand that you're awesome no matter what? Not trying to be a goody goody here but I too felt fat at one point. It wasn't until recently that I got my spirits going and I wanted to share with you all about what it really means to be fat.. which doesn't affect you rather then shaping you a bit physically but that's it!! Being to skinny or to fat is bad so between the middle or a 45 degree is good to settle with! But up to you really.

Well that was patronizing as fuck. As a fat person, I don't need someone who has no idea the sort of shit I put up with telling me that despite the fact that I'm fat, I can be successful in life, and love. I'm not some fucking pansy who needs people to tell me that I'm not shit. There is no doubt that people look at me differently due to my size, its just part of life and I'm not going to bitch about it. Being fat is not good, its unhealthy and leads to heart disease, and other potentially mortal ailments and it makes preventing these more difficult because its harder to exercise.

Hm, being fat is kind of a problem if you're in the military. They don't like chubbies. Also, not everyone finds love. But then, not everyone who doesn't find love is upset by it. I currently have no ambitions on finding love or even being in any kind of relationship. It sounds like a lot of work for very little payoff (for me, obviously not for everyone).

I do believe that making pariahs of fat people is wrong, and that that is one very bad side-effect of America's excessive publicizing of being active and athletic and fit. It's still a positive campaign, but sometimes people take it in the wrong direction. I don't see anything wrong with poking fun at fat people though. I call my fat friends fat all the time, and give them crap when it gives them trouble with physical things, but I do the same with excessively tall, short, skinny, buff, etc. people. That's just part of society. Or at least part of being a guy. I don't know if women call their overweight friends "fat fucks" as often as I do mine. :P

I think it does need to be accepted that..some of us are NEVER going to achevie the "ideal" body type

that said being healthy is more important

I'm perfectly okay with people being fat. But I wish I didn't get so much shit for being skinny.

I have something up with my stomach, so I have trouble putting on weight. So I'm always getting the `Skinny Bitches` thing. I just don't put on weight easily. When I was in school people spread a rumour that I was bulemic, just because I would eat chips and not put on any weight.

I think its best to be healthy, but if you choose to make unhealthy choices, you shouldn't be judged so harshly for it. (I mean, if you are in danger of kicking the bucket very soon, you should probably get a talking-to by a doctor, but otherwise).

So i sees you like defending the minorities (fat people and bullies) interesting OP...

Anywho, Being fat ain't healthy, it just ain't. For me "fat" means you take up 2 seats and you can't see your toes anyone under that category isn't fat in my opinion. I recall someone comparing smoking to being fat. Both parties are knowingly making their lives harder but keep on doing it for personal pleasure.

We could always blame the media for everything but really it's the people's fault for even falling for it, it's been several years now since people have been saying how it's all fake and computer generated yet girls/guys are still trying to get that supermodel look. Get these kids educated -.-

I agree to you to some extent but also remember that some of these models actually exist and do live performances so it's not all fully based on illusions and generated computer skills yet it's sort of darker since i've seen a video on it. The methods these models do to be so skinny and look the way they do.. *shiver*

Did you know that some models now and then get surgery despite being skinny? They even do so on their lips, their bottoms and breasts, especially their stomachs.. it's like a remodel trying to look like Barbie. (Guys tend to get fake abs implanted when modeling so the surgery tactic applies to both genders depending on what look they're going for). Pretty chilling on what people would do to be part of the modeling industry. I won't judge them though but you get where I am coming from.

Ive always been skinny....though Ive gained alittle weight, and unfortunatly I seem to be stuck with my stomach (I just suck it in alot)

but yeah "being skinny" was the one complment I always got...it was like my defineing charachter trait...other than being quiet...

It seems a bit silly to tell everyone it's okay to be fat no matter how they look even if it's unhealthy but not to be skinny to the point where it's unhealthy.

OP: I used to be fairly heavy and it sucked, so I lost a lot of weight, which also sucked. Both skinny and fat all I thought about was food, always worried about what I could and couldn't eat.

Now I'm somewhere in the middle, I eat what I want in moderation but because I'm still in a relatively healthy range I don't worry about it nearly as much as a used to. I like how I look now, which is the most important thing, and I know how to reign my weight in if I go outside my comfort zone.

Anyway, being too far on either side of the spectrum is bad for your health but whatever makes you happy is what your weight should be.

you know what really disturbes me?

Labia-plasty

without going into too much detail essentially its where ladies get plastic surgery "down there" to make it so everything is "neatly tucked in"...

theres a theory that it kind of comes from soft porn cencorship so they cant show much graphic detail...so they photoshop "outies" into "innies" and mabye thats how people figure its "suposed" to be

it pisses me off because on top of EVERYTHING women deal with...we can now feel insecure about our privates! (I mean for fuck sake)

I mean imgaine being a young teenager/woman, it would make the prospect of sex a million more times scary....being rejected over that /rant

I've never understood why people judge fat people so harshly, one of my best friends in high school was fat but also very tall it was kind off awesome since I was ridiculously small and also like a stick so we looked pretty weird, it was also very curious that he didn't eat almost anything and yet I ate so much that I literally ate at least one of everything in a buffet, I don't know he was pretty good at sports too and did way more sports than me so it was sort of odd, I also tended to travel on his shoulder just because it was funny, it was great sadly we grew distant because he took a liking to poetry and decided he was going to speak everything in verse and I stopped understanding what he said and eventually we just stopped talking, wow! that's a weird reason to stop being friends with somebody.

A lot of stuff ain't healthy. What are you, some health Nazi or something?

My school made me go see the school counselor, which was an awakward conversation.

`Have you ever been sick on purpose?`
`No, why would I do that?`
`To be skinny?`
`.... I am skinny.`

I only realised afterwards (once my friends told me what everyone was saying about me) what she was driving at.

you CLEARLY can't be reasoned with so let's just end this argument with a picture eh?

Fucking hell, yeah.

Ok, the stuff about having to be thin or else you are a fat disgusting slob and will die and should be ashamed and all isn't really what I'd be calling a good thing, but labiaplasty...eek!

What a terrible post. I don't look down on fat people, I don't think less of them, but there's nothing you can say to change the fact that being fat is a negative trait. Yes we are supposed to have fat, and it's even unhealthy to have very little fat, but having excess fat is not a good thing, it's not even a neutral trait, it's just plain and simple BAD.

Why are people fat? Because of genetics? Not likely, people are fat because they eat unhealthily and don't exercise enough. People who don't eat right and don't exercise as much as they should are much more prone to countless health problems.

So once again, I won't judge people for being fat, I won't think they're pathetic just because they COULD look better, it's a lot of work for some people so that's their decision to make. But let's not kid ourselves here. You know what this reminds me of? Mentally retarded children, we don't want to hurt their feelings so we call them "special" instead, we pretend a negative trait is a positive one. "No you're not stupid, you're special."

No, you're not fat, you're special...

That space janitor to the side of us, he's special special...

I hate when people get fat because they eat too much. That hatred is further intensified when they blame anything other than overeating.

Why is it every time someone wants to defend choosing to be obese and incapacitated, they have to present it like there's a sort of choice between being in the gym at least seven times a week and getting plastic surgery, or overeating horribly in a most disgusting manner, without any middle ground?

Yes, that's a rhetorical question, I know they're just trying to draw supporters by dragging them into the fatties' camp by saying 'you don't want to be a fitness nazi, do you?', but it's still ridiculous.

As for being fat is healthy... lol. Citation needed. Tell me what good comes from not being able to run ever in your life again, having to take a breather every single stairs you walk up, and not being able to fit in a chair, and taking up most couches for yourself by yourself?

Regnes:

Anything to excess is bad. Who draws the line between excess fat and merely having more than others?

Is not the term "special" also used for what could be considered neutral states that merely aren't accepted in our current society? Yes, that's a disadvantage, but not something inherent to it.

I find fat women incrediby attractive . So i am too biased to properly respond to this thread . I am skinny however ( no matter what i eat i cannot gain weight for some reason). I have no problem with fat people , but i do find big women very sexy but big men , kinda disgusting . But thats because i know a few fat men , and they really are disgusting , so that most likely clouds my judgement of big guys .

As a fat guy (21 st down from 24 last year). Id like to say i appreciate the effort in trying to make us feel accepted but also that any judgement people have on us is fair game. We are unhealthy (and often unattractively so) in my experience being reminded of this helps my resolve, because it gets me to strive to be better, and as i lose weight i gain confidence and i seem to be more succesfull with things.

Thats just my take though, i can understand others may not want to persecuted.

So what about people who don't become fat of overeating? I see this a lot, "overweight" is usually associated with "overeating" while "skinny" with "not eating". And I have seen proof of the opposite of each, so why do people still immediately connect the two, I don't know.

I do not like fat people. It's bad enough that people consume meat, let alone people that overconsume it enough to get to that stage. I console myself with the thought that at least they will probably die sooner.

Well that's the most patronising thing I've read in a long time, so congrats for that.

Being fat doesn't make someone less of a person, it makes them more of a person.

Oh snap!

As always, moderation is the key. Yes you need fat but too much is bad. Everything is bad when you have/do to much of it. Even water becomes toxic for the human body when you have to much of it (and I am not talking about the obvious drowning bit).

Oxygen is toxic in high concentrations (I do NOT advice you to try this one out. Breathing in pure oxygen will earn you a trip to the hospital or the morgue).

But more on topic: I am a guy who doesn't like the borderline anorexic chicks. But I don't like fat girls either. Somewhere in between. If I may be as blunt as possible: A nice set of love handles so I have something to hold on tight too is perfect. Plus it usually means a nice ass and bigger tits. I may have been able to say this more civilized but I think this gets the point across way better.

And me myself. I try to stay in shape a little bit. What I think for a guy is 'perfect' is if he has muscles which are covered by a little bit of fat. You have the overall figure of man (not a balloon) but you don't have to be hard as a rock.

If it is healthy or not, well that is a bit more complex. You can be skinny and still be on the verge of having a heart attack. If you are skinny because you run 20 miles every day, you are probably destroying your knees and back.

Conlusion: like I said in the beginning -> moderation is the key.

Thats my two cents

Whats wrong with being fat? If they accept the risks and have a positive outlook about it, i see no problem. Its their choice to workout or not, and eat healthy or not.

If people who advocate fatness on this thread went to the gym, and got on the treadmill, instead of arguing in this forum, perhaps there would be less excuses for being fat.

I myself used to weigh a ripped 220, at 6'3" (Which the Army considered overweight). When I was in the army. Then I got out, and without the constant exercise and proper diet, I ballooned up to 320 (which doctors consider morbidly obese). I didn't blame genes, I didn't blame the media, I didn't blame the butterfly effect, and I didn't make up bullshit excuses. I over ate, and sat around on my fat ass playing video games and working a desk job.

Now I am at the gym 6 days a week, for an hour at least each time, and I am on a balanced diet. No Soda, no sweets, no beer, more salad, more vegetables, and more shitty tasting food. However, in the 2 months I've been on this journey, I've lost 20 lbs. I am just now starting to run 5ks for charity again. I feel great.

So long story short, go outside and talk a walk fatties. There is no excuse for being fat. You sound like my alcoholic friend telling me it's a disease. No, Cancer is a disease. You just can't stop drinking/eating, because you have no will power.

EDIT: And another thing! Whats wrong with someone choosing to be fat you ask? Because my taxes go up and I have to pay for you're heart disease meds, your diabetes meds, and you're special needs from the hospitals. Being fat is not a personal decision, you're choice affects my wallet.

Nuff said.

Seriously, if you're packing ovaries your in a world of hurt.

You know what would greatly help this thread?

Define fat. Seriously, some people are going to see huge people who take up three cinema seats by themselves while other people will think anything above 12 stone (UK) is giant.

Edit: As an example: B]being just under 6 ft and just under 15 stone, I am a tad overweight on the media's perception, but am I fat? Probably not. However, I guarantee some people are going "15 stone? Dude must be massive".

Yeah, that's actually me in that picture on the left there. I'm not. Fat isn't a singularly defined term.

You know what kind of fat people I can't stand? People who are fat (really fat I mean, not just a couple pounds overweight) and proud of it. Given the fact that there are undernourished people struggling to get anything to eat, it mystifies me how anyone can be proud of the fact that they eat too much.
