Poll: Is human emotion a weakness or a strength?

Ok is human emotin a weakness or a strength? I think its both but please debate this below and don't forget to vote in the poll.

Id say it was quite obviously a strength. Without emotion we couldnt form a society based on mutual benefit or have any amount of care toward infants. The idea that any kind of civilised society could form is rather far fetched without ANY emotion or bond between humans, and even if one did i imagine the gap between rich and poor would be much larger. Rather than get care packages to starving countries i imagine that emotionless people would want them to work for them, or exterminate them as they consume valuable resources. Remember EVERY disaster that was helped with donated money? Thats down the drain. Its a strength. A strength to build something greater than our individual selves.

Double post, captcha swallowed my postings :C sorry.

I like to think it's a strength because otherwise, how else are we going to function as a whole, or as a society? I'd argue that without emotion certain things would've not come to pass if it wasn't for compassion for one another. It's a desire to move forward as a whole and see where we can be and to help those that can't get there.

I will say though, those that exploit other people's emotions for personal gain are the weak ones since they can't seem to be capable of anything else rather than give in to their selfish desires and needs, and are misusing what emotions were given to them.

Neither, really. It all depends on the situation. Human emotions exist, and that's pretty much it.

Well it can hold you back in some respects, but it can also give you the strength to keep going when all hope is gone. Therefore both.

Our emotions are our instincts struggling with our intellect. It's gotten us from naked scavengers with no tools on the plains of Africa to hydrogen-bomb armed space travellers.

There's a few problems with that:
- care for the infants would come as a part of the preservation of species, which is (at least, to my knowledge) independent of emotions
- emotion and bond are 2 different things
- maybe it's just me but I don't think that there would be a need for money if humans had no emotions, we wouldn't feel a need to be compensated for our work and even if we did, the well being of our species would be more than enough, there would be no rich and poor since no one would feel the need to gather wealth for themselves in the first place, everyone would just work for the benefit of the group with little to no consideration for individuals (including themselves)

I think that without any emotions, humanity would resemble ants or bees in their societal structure - everyone would be assigned a role which they would perform to the best of their abilities. If a person wouldn't be able to handle their responsibilities, he/she would be disposed of or reassigned and replaced with a better worker (or maybe even turned into food for other people).
There would be no such things as art, entertainment, religion or philosophy because we wouldn't feel the need for it.

Would that be better or worse? I honestly can't tell.
