What do you guys think of the trailer for this upcoming movie God Bless America?

Seems kind of like Natural Born Killers type of movie but different.
Any opinions from my fellow escapists about this film?

It looks like Super, only bad. Or at least not quite as good. I mean, we got a guy and his teengirl sidekick going on a crusage to kill people he doesn't like.

I saw it in theaters. Fuck. Yes.
I will go and see that at least twice, each time with my other circle of friends.

Looks fucking stupid to me. "Oh hey, just watch some guy shoot random people for being slightly disagreeable!" Not my type of movie.

But they're shooting at everything that's wrong in the US, ironically with guns and an approval of firearms violence, that's also a thing wrong with the US.

It sounds like social criticism meets dumb action movie, hilarious.

It look like for once Hollywood got it right. Ok sure I down right hate those type of shows like My Super Sweet 16 but I rather see it getting cancel than to kill them.
Also I read that it apparently offend some people out there (violence is never the answer).

Yeah, an extremely stupid form of social criticism. If spoiled kids, shit TV and guns are the biggest problems facing the US (they are not), the world would be a better place than it really is.

Im looking to far into it though. Its obvious the movie isnt trying to be particularly deep or, well, good, and thats fair enough. But stuff like social criticism is just immediately linked to movies like American Psycho in my mind.

...Of which the first film was also awesome even if way too sexually explicit.

And comedy is a sensible way to voice social criticism. If you bring up guns, you get the mighty gun sales pro-violence lobby of the NRA and all it's 'but I feel insecure and unmasculine without guns!' fanboys after you, prohibiting any debate (just look up any gun topic here for proof of this)

Make a film about a real shooting and the why (Bowling for Columbine), and they'll even defame you all the same, and blame video games, or Jew... no wait that's become politically incorrect, or today youth, or the heretics, or....
So here they went for a fictional portrayal of such things, so nobody's going to rip at it, and some people might get the underlying message.

Seeing as this film, judging by the trailer, seeks to stamp on not just gun culture, but a huge range of questionable things in the US, they'd better use comedy to avoid coming across as fervent misanthropists.

Looks hilarious, and also quite a good social commentary. Hopefully it'll come out in the UK, or at least on DVD so I can watch it then.

Looks like a shit version of Falling Down, aimed at the ADD generation. Take up two spaces? DIE you POS. Classic diversion tactics, the real problems come down from on high, not spoilt or stupid people who are pretty much victims of a deliberately dumbed-down education system.

Social commentary my arse. Did they also rob the child aspect from Leon?

Meh, it looks like a crappier version of Falling Down with a girl sidekick added in and a less interesting protagonist.

Well actually it reminded me of Natural Born Killers + Falling Down + He Was A Quiet Man along with some aspects of Leon the Professional and The Chumscrubber.

I can't get out've my head that he resembles the former PM here so I'll have to watch it now.

Wow. This is going to offend a lot of people. I'm kind of interested now...could be ages until it comes out in the UK though.

I bet MovieBob is going nuts over this thing.

Ohh yesss, I really want to watch this now. Die die die! That and a minor point, both of the main characters seem to be left-handed or ambidextrous... not that I would watch a film for that but it's the icing on the cake!

You're right about that, though it's not exactly a serious film. It seems like a comedy through and through. I know there are much more deserving targets than ridiculous celebrities and rude pedestrians, and by and large they are just victims of the corrupt elite and illuminati, but poking fun at such people can do no harm, and is in some ways an intermediate step. If this was a film about gunning down vile politicians and greedy capitalists, you can guarantee that its director would be in some very hot water.

Hell yeah which is why I'm going to see this and enjoy the hell out of it

Thank you OP for sharing this with us

There's better satire films out there. Go watch the Ed Harris movie Walker from 1987 for example.

Absolutely must watch. If I only had the title to go on I would have probably skipped it but this looks like it'll be a great one. Anybody else reminded of Falling Down?

This is the first movie I have been excited for in a long time. I think it is interesting having a character driven over the top when he gets shit on by life while people get all they could ever want for acting uncivilized. In some ways I really identify with the character all the things that bother him are things that have always really bothered me.

Anyone else notice the part in the trailer where they are at the movie theater and some random guy pulls his cellphone out and starts filming them?

I lol'd so hard because this is actually something I get really angry about.
Nowadays everyone will pull their cellphone out and start videotaping you.

You are with some friends doing some skateboard tricks in a parking lot and a some stranger just starts videotaping!
You go to a restaurant and sing happy birthday to a friend random people at another table pull out their cellphone and videotape it!

Not only do they film anything but they do it without your permission and upload it to their youtube channel or something.

WTF?!?!

Disgusting.

I've had my rant in the other thread (search bar, man), but time has not sweetened it. The fact that people feel the need to get VIOLENTLY CATHARTIC about someone taking up two parking spaces makes me want to vomit.

The filmmaker can take his social commentary and blow it out his ass. It's a brilliant catch-22, because if he's going to end the film by saying that it's WRONG to get your kicks from fantasizing about killing every little annoyance that you meet, he has the same problem that Untraceable had - he just made a whole movie reveling in it. And if he's going to not comment on or support this kind of catharsis, then I don't want to have anything to do with him.

I'm normally not a fan of the "starving children in Africa" comments, but dammit people, you're not making it easy to ignore it...

I was thinking Natural Born Killers the entire time I was watching that now that you mention it.

Some people got offended over this? Now I'm really going to watch it.

I watched that show one time, a friend wanted to see what the big deal was, and I know I wanted to murder someone, but the reasonable answer was to start drinking. God it was terrible.

Actually I think it was more of a commentary on how people have kinda lost empathy and don't call for help when someone is getting shot or is suffering.

Super was horrible; so you're saying this is worse than Super? Wow. That is bad.

Sometimes, if violence isn't the answer, you're asking the wrong questions.

I'll definitely consider this movie, though; regardless of Movie Bob's reviews, I can rarely stomach the notion of spending $11+ dollars just to get into the damn theatre. When I consider how much garbage is produced by the entertainment industry, I'm even more loathe to pay to see any of it.

Thankfully, I don't have cable, so I'm spared much of the worst detritus being labeled "entertainment".

I think its something you need to be American to get. You might find it more appealing if they made a German version of it.

They did make a German version of it, it's called the holocaust.

Zing!

Sorry I apologise, I just had to...

I spent half my life living in the UK which is basically just the US with more tea and Walkers crisps, so I really can relate. Its just not my kinda movie. I get how fed up a thinking man is in a country like the US, it still doesnt appeal to me.

Like I mentioned earlier, when it comes to social commentary I prefer something a little more in depth. And if its just 2 hours of someone shooting random shit for the lulz, well, there you go. I dont like that kinda stuff at all.

Yeah, except we were preserving our shitty culture (or thats what most believed they were doing) while the guys in the movie are destroying shitty culture. So again, the German version just sucks.

*Sigh* We just cant get it right...

I hardly ever watch movies these days. I'll watch this one.

Looks like the stupidest thing ever... I can't wait to see it.

I am going to go see this movie. I never go see movies but I will see this one.

Looks awful, just trashy crap, its poorly disguised mental masturbation and goreporn for angsty 16 year olds that don't like pop culture, It is the very fucking thing that it's trying to satire - A shallow, intellectually void, lowest-common-denominator action flick that is several thousand leagues deep into it's own ass; Roughly the same depth as I imagine its intended audience is.

It Wishes it was Falling Down and Dear Zeus has this film missed the point.

For me, it's actually something new. The usual movies that are in theaters involve the following:

1) Action movies revolving around guns and explosions with cops involved.

2) Horror movies involving some demonic figure and/or bunch of teens running about.

3) Comedy movies having some couple trying to get along with each other, as friends or more.

Sure some movies aren't that cliche but Hollywood just repeats the same stuff but makes the formulas different each time so we never get that feeling "Hey, it reminds me a lot of that one movie but it's.. done differently." So seeing this movie I actually couldn't compare it to any movie really thus looks really interesting with an actual plot even if it's behind a stupid cause. Looking forward to it and hopefully it doesn't suck.
