What are your hobbies, other than gaming?

So, I was looking through the forums today in a bout of boredom, and I noticed some trends among you, my fellow internet men and women. Namely, it seems that even the hobbies and interests we have besides videogaming seem to largely align. I don't think that impression is entirely true, so I thought Id make a thread about it.

Therefore: What hobbies do you partake in besides videogames?

As is fair, I shall list mine. Starting with the ones that many people here share according to my 'research'. Then moving to those I feel are less commonplace.

Warhammer 40k: Obviously has a huge presence on the site. I used to have a large points, artillery focused Imperial Guard army, which is no more due to economic concerns. Lately I've been looking to get back into it, however.

Magic: Started this fairly recently, around the release of Innistrad, but I've been sucked in. Admittedly, my decks aren't terribly good yet, but I have good fundamentals and I do extremely well in closed drafts. Can't wait for Avacyn in a few weeks, finally have the impetus to make a mono white deck for standard. Like 40k, this is expensive as hell.

Anime: Another popular one. While I have always had a liking for series such as Fullmetal Alchemist and Trigun, it was only the last few years I became a truly hopeless Otaku. I've devoured the last few seasons of content, and I no longer have the bias that led me to favor dubs in years previous. I find I no longer have the patience to wait for a series to be dubbed in any case. Regardless, thank Tzeentch for Crunchyroll.

Science Fiction and Fantasy: I read an average of thirty novels a year, and the vast majority are Science Fiction and Fantasy. ASOIF, Wheel of Time, Harry Turtledove, SM Stirling, John Birmingham, damn near every Warhammer 40k book you can imagine. I love nothing more than a well thought out world and great characters, and just behind those are the great ideas that propel the true classics of the genres.

Tabletop RPGs: I imagine that this one has the widest visibility to played ratio. While many gamers know a great deal about Dungeons and Dragons and the like, from what I've seen it is a much smaller fraction who actually partake. Myself, I currently DM Dark Heresy for my friends every few weekends. Its great fun, and there is nothing like going to the crit chart only to tell the party's combat specialist that his plasma gun just exploded in his hands, killing him and knocking down everyone else, to be eaten by angry Daemons in the next turn. Good times. The game seriously has the best crit charts ever written.

Writing: Now this is not only my hobby, it is also my chosen profession. I have quite the stable of short stories and novellas I've written over the years, and one or two might even be sent to a publisher one day. Writing is therapy for me, as much as anything else is. I just get lost in it, and hours later I often find myself in strange places of my own creation. Its pretty happy there, usually, despite it generally being a blasted warzone or a neo-noir dystopia. Whether anyone else would agree, well, I suppose I'll find out some day. And then I may well become a professional waiter, if it's not the answer I need.

----------

Well, I apologize for talking your ear off. If you actually read all, or most, of that, I owe you my thanks. Please do tell me what you like to do, I look forward to seeing it. I did, after all, not simply come here to talk about myself.

Cheers.

    Warhammer/Warhammer 40k.

I got a D in 3rd year music. Learning an instrument you like is NOTHING like learning the recorder in school.

Take the first step and get one, trust me when I say it's worth it.

The only option is for you to bake more.

I think a jam and cream cake with icing is in order. Chop chop!

    - Programming. I've been working on a game editor for the last week or so, and I have other one-off projects like making Tic Tac Toe AI, etc.

    - Writing. I used to do quite a lot of poetry & short stories, but haven't done anything lately.
    - University work. Nowhere near enough of this, but I'm currently supposed to be learning about all sorts of things to do with software testing.
    - Exercise...again, too little. I'm a natural swimmer but have been running & cycling instead recently.

    Reading novels.

Watching old films. Watching Metropolis right now.

Metropolis is quite the film. There are few works of fiction that have more impact on today's culture. It says a lot that modern Science Fiction still examines the same themes as that movie did a century ago.

I am partial to The General myself, we lost something when silent comedy went out of vogue, and I don't think we ever really got it back. Such a great, simple film.

I love baking, I just can't actually do it. Good thing there are people like you, otherwise the world would be a rather more bland tasting place.

comic books...turns out they arnt as stupid as they seem

I used to enjoy drawing but I havnt done it for a long time..I should get back into it

I rearrange my room with posters and stuff..so much that it could count as a hobby

OT: Comic books, TV and movies, browsing t'interwebs, hanging out with IRL mates.

Browsing the internet, playing the clarinet/piano/melodica, writing and running around the house with a bouncy yellow ball. Many hours have been wasted...doing the latter.

You know, I forgot one. An important one, I think.

Visual Novels: Not near as common as the others I listed, for a variety of reasons. Some of the best narratives and characters I have seen came from here, and I am immensely glad I took a chance on looking up Fate/ Stay Night and what it was when I saw it mentioned on TvTropes. I pretty much fell in love, in the process of reading every good one I can get a decent translation of. Particularly liked Steins Gate and Saya No Uta. Though FSN has a special, unassailable place in my heart, and contains the closest thing I will ever have to a 'Waifu'. I have a thing for women with swords, god help me.

Possibly the next time I bake. I can't afford ingredients ALL the time.

I have several, though I do a lot of gaming in comparison to the other stuff.

-I read quite a bit. It's what occupies a lot of my time at school when I have no work to do and I can't talk to friends.
-I watch TV, anime, and movies, then discuss the things I watch with friends/family.
-I listen to music and play the drums, viola, and electric violin (poorly on that last one, though).
-I'm trying to break into a few things, such as drawing, writing (I really want to try my hand at cyberpunk after seeing Ghost in the Shell), and programming. My dad was a programmer before he retired, and I want to try to be as good as he was.

In addition to these things, I also recently got back into doing taekwondo again since I needed the activity for virtual PE (frees up an elective so I can do IT and orchestra in the same year).

I enjoy Fritz Lang's work a lot, and believe this to be his best work. I enjoy silent films, when body language was the most important factor.

    My interests and hobbies include:

Singing, mostly rock music but I stray into the indie/coldplay type stuff too.

Playing guitar and bass, same as above.

Anime and film. I'm into these probably more so than gaming

Looking after and breeding my fish.

Looking after and riding my elephant... Yup, you read it correctly.

    Sampling fine cuisine and cooking.

Since I don't play cricket any more due to injury my new hobby is getting a massage every week from my beautiful osteopath, fair trade I thought.

    Birdwatching in my back garden

The usual socialising, drinking, fucking that kind of thing.

I admit, I am VERY interested to hear how the elephant came to be a thing that you care for/ride.

You aren't looking good for europe, You better win all of your games and hope the skunks(NUFC) lose the rest of theirs. I hppe my team Sunderland can finish the season strong, and the O'Neil can lead us to FA Cup glory next season.

OT: Watching football, reading a book occasionally, listening to music(not really a hobby) that's about it nothing that gets me out of the house.

firearms, drinking, and sex.... the classic American trifecta

And here I had this vague idea of you as some sort of beastmaster assassin type, slapping targets with a cricket bat from the back of your massive Indian, Francesca.

    ...

You know, I'm making that a story. I can already see the movie rights...

I read, write, enjoy a good (or bad) cinematic adventure with friends...

I've really gotten into running lately, as I've been steadily losing weight since the beginning of the year.

Music is a big interest. Shame I can't play anything. I can sing, but it isn't easy to find a band that needs nothing but a singer.

Her name is Chandrika, but other than that, yeah that's pretty spot on...

I even taught her to play harmonica (well, we're at the stage where she has stopped trying to eat it and blows through it)... She's quite talented, a real blues girl.

Creative writing, both fanfiction and original fiction, though I haven't written anything recently.
Reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels, mostly fantasy.
Playing scrabble, sometimes with my mom, other times against the computer on my kindle.
    Watching Anime and Movies.
    Putting together puzzles and models.

I am a bit of a gun nut myself.

Without going into too much detail, my favorite piece is likely the 1938 Mosin Nagant rifle I got through a specialty retailer last year. Great condition, shoots like a dream. Been trying to find a good surplus bayonet for it, but its hard to find an authentic one.

I go more for modern than classic... just last month I got me a Alexander arms .50 Beowulf upper for one of my AR-15s... it's my favorite "toy" at the moment... but my one and only true love will always be the 1911 and all it's clones... my personal daily carry Para Ordnance P14.45 never leaves my side

    I can understand your inclination.

The M1911 is my favorite pistol of all time. I have three, one of which was my Grandfather's. He carried through WW2, from Alaska to Guam. Its pretty beat up, but that's part of it's charm. I don't shoot that one, though it probably still works. The other two are repros, I forget the specific model.

I don't even play that many games anymore... but hobbies include:
    Drawing - mostly half-naked women
Knitting - currently making a pair of socks for a friend
Music-related activities, such as playing the violin, piano and singing
I'm also very interested in fashion.

    Guitar
    School
Journalism takes up a good amount of my time and makes for a lot my stress. I've been ignoring it recently, which will come back to bite me tomorrow, but I'll have plenty of time during school.
And StumbleUpon. Why do waste so good Stumbleupon. I want to teach myself piano, learn French, continue learing Spanish, learn Java and how to program games, get a job, and develop relationships with people. But wait! StumbleUpon could help me find articles about doing all of those things. And the vicious cycle starts again.

    - Drawing, Painting, Illustrations, Jewelry. I try almost every single craft I can get my hands on.
    - Reading everything.
    - Watching Movies, everything but chick/drama movies.
    - Shooting my bow
    - Baking.

Tennis, the only sport I am good at as a whole.
Basketball, the only other sport i can do any sort of task at all i so is steal and pass but that at least gives me value
Cooking, because fuck eating bad food and fuck paying 10-30$ for good food every meal
Reading, I have fond this oddly counts as much at it feels like putting "watching TV" pm this list
Photography/photo editing, Because yeah camera phones are shit cameras but you always have them and i want to make use of it
Camping/hiking, because... i don't know... it is just nice
