In most cases it is, because yesterday I posted in a thread about Yahtzee being Rickrolled by EA, that was from over a year ago, it's no longer thought of, let alone considered relevant to anything anymore.

That doesn't make any sense. You were interested enough in the thread to post in it, so clearly it still has some relevance.
This is a discussion board, not a news reel. There is no reason why someone shouldn't be allowed to post in an older thread, as long as the thread has discussion value, and people are still interested in it.

Also, if it's not against the rules then why do I see users getting warnings for necro'ing threads? Pfft.

Well, the few times that I've seen someone get a warning for that, it wasn't because they "necro'd" the thread per se, but rather because their post was either inflammatory, off-topic, or had low content, and the poster had no legitimate reason to resurrect the thread.

I really don't understand what the fuss is here. Bumping up an older thread isn't against any rule I'm aware of, and it helps cut back on thread duplicates by bringing back discussions that have already happened.

Certainly, it's not worth getting worked up into a Crusader-ish frenzy over.

Is it just me, or have there been substantially more necro'd threads since this one was created? Maybe i'm just noticing more, but i'm suspicious...

To toot my own horn, i did a squareenix bashing about 3/4 years ago. Which still holds to this day. I think they are shit and the rest of the world is finally realizing this. Or devoted defending them. One or the other.

Plus someone other than me actually ressed it on accident when i used it in an argument a while ago.

I for one, look forward to one day necroing this thread just for the sake of irony. Yes, that will be a great day. Maybe I should bookmark it for that purpose?

The problem is that if there is a discussion you want to have and there is already a thread on it you have two options. You can make a thread and get blasted for not using the search bar, or you can revive the thread and get called a necro. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I think sovietheavy made a thread as a plight to lock old threads, so they couldn't necro on you.

Hey, the thread even got another actual response. I consider this arcane ritual a success!

Now I must flee, and hope I don't get struck down by the variety of weapons/vehicles/miscellaneous objects the anti-necromancers apparently brought along. Even if I am though, I'm a necromancer now. I'm pretty sure that means I can't be killed.

(In all seriousness, I've noticed a lot more threads getting necro'd lately. Especially in the News Room. I've been Reporting more often, as necessary.)

(Sorry guys, normally I'd be a Paladin in these situations but to be honest, I see nothing wrong with thread Necromancy, and I have Resurrected 1 or 2 threads here and there, mostly 'the scary thread'.)

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch these necros for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish! Not like going onto the forums and chasing trolls and alternate accounts. These necros, swallow threads whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', down they go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back the visitors, that'll put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant! I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find them for three, but I'll catch them, and kill them, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole year. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's too many members on this site. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the heads, the legs, the whole damn thing.

I've been waiting months to do this. I don't care if I get in trouble, the irony is worth it.

This is gonna be revived once a month for many years.

OT: necroing threads is only annoying when the threads are specifically about some controversy that happened a year ago. Otherwise, one massive several-year-long chain thread or two is good for a forum.

I'm here with an army of super robots and theme music...we may not destroy the RIGHT enemy, but by god we'll wreck some stuff spectaacularly :)
