Hey there escapees, exam week is this week for me. So I'm curious, what type of tools, websites, or methods do you use to stay focused and crunch data?
Personally, I've just started using Anki for memorizing environments in biology, and holy crap what a difference. Then, of course, I take the notes I write in class and type them up to refresh them in my memory. Finally, there's wikipedia XD for any blanks in my notes.
tl;dr, What do you use?
I pretty much memorize the textbooks. Computer and TV stay off as those are distractions and I pull off the paranoid shut-in look for about 3 weeks. The result is being in the top 3 students at the end, usually the 3rd because there are always those 2 asian girls in the class that would kill me if I attempt to dethrone them.
I've never studied for a test beyond what I've done in class, it's a reckless method but I've never failed an exam. It makes me wonder just how high my marks could have been if I had revised.
I do previous exams and listen to music, the more tired I get the louder I play the music.
I used anki a little bit when I had to memorize the periodic table and the swedish and english names for all the elements.
I do almost all my studying in front of my computer, it's very convenient when I have to look stuff up and I don't have to get up every 20 min to flip or change LP/tape to keep music rolling. And I have to have that, otherwise every other noise in the house distracts me.
I usually check my math assignments with wolfram before I turn them in, other than that I just google stuff.
Good luck on your exams.
I'm doing my exams right now too! I usually revise normally but lately I've been doing lots of tests (Had art test today and another on friday) with a test on wednesday and my construction practical on the 9th of May. Also have to have a portfolio finished by tonight, have 90% done though. I just thumb through my text-books.
Exams are a bitch! Good luck! (bro-fist)
Might I recommend the Escapist Students user group? Shameless admin promotion
I tend to revise very shortly beforehand, as it takes me ages to get worried enough to begin. I have uni exams starting in 11 days and still can't bring myself to attempt revision.
Edit: This pisses people off when I tell them, as I still do pretty well usually. I would like to revise earlier, but I'm too lazy/apathetic.
Well...it's been a while since I was at school ( 5 years to be exact ) but I don't recall studying for anything. My circle of friends pretty much just chilled, played games and fucked about in the weeks and lessons leading up to our exams. Though it probably helped that we were all competent and actually paid attention for the 2 years we were studying GCSE work.
The only exam I put any effort into was art; which is the lesson which I actually done the least in. For nearly 2 years I just sat back and pissed around, nearly being removed from the course due to my lack of effort - came out with an E for course-work and an A* for my final exam piece; giving me a C overall. ( That's one of the rare occasions that I wish I could go back and punch myself in the face ).
It was rather hilarious watching the drama that ensued as couples broke up due to "stress" and people came in, in varying states of awakeness ( That's now a word! )whilst we, my friends and I, sat back and fucked around.
What I use? All the study materials, and strangely, Facebook. You see, our first year has it's own Facebook group, and around the deadline and exam weeks there's a lot of talk about stuff we have to learn and projects we have to finish.
Other than that, I print out readers and read those, read the text books a bit, skim through the online presentations and watch screencasts my teachers put on YouTube. It's not a very theoretical course anyway, so learning isn't that big of a deal.
When I do learn it often differs on how I do it. When the weather is nice I usually pop outside and do all my offline learning in the sun. I might pop in my MP3 player and put something relaxing on, like Athlete or the Punch Brothers or something, to help me relax. A mug of Wiener Melange usually makes studying easier as well. And sometimes I just buckle down and read.
HA! Studying. I normally don't study. For vocab and things like that for english I've started using flash cards. You look at one side and if you can't get it in a couple seconds than you don't know it and it goes back in the pile.
As for tests and exams, I've actually started making really dumb mistakes in my pre-cal class. Not sure how to stop that.
