Stupid things you spend a lot of money on? Pages 1 2 3 NEXT
Just paid off the remainder of our mortgage. Handing over that cheque and watching the money vanish out of our account made me shed manly tears.
An SDD :c | |
Music. I like to buy an actual albums and have spent $50+ on special edition copies.
Quite a few things actually: -An iPad
-World of Warcraft | |
Crisps, I'm just so addicted damnit. Cool Original Doritos atm!
I never spend lots of money on stupid things because I have no money at all! Ohsopoorandlonely.
Rent, electric, water, car insurance, petrol. Anything remotely to do with independence and being an adult is stupid because it means I can't actually buy REAL stupid things.
Magic the Gathering. /thread
Sorta Sports tickets. Sorta yes, because why waste so much money on events like that? Sorta no, because I wouldn't trade the memories for the money
In my current situation there's really no room to waste even a dollar. Before this I'd say movies, I buy them and never end up watching them more than once or twice.
Recently took up larping, gone through 2 characters already and spent a small fortune on kit in a single year but so much fun it's totally worth it
edit | |
Video games, only thing I buy. Captcha: Heart's content, I wish captcha..I wish.
1) Beads. I make beaded necklaces and bracelets and I spend hideous amounts of money on beads. 2) Books. I read like a fiend, see above 3) DVDs. I like owning my copies of a show/movie instead of renting them 4) Computer Games, natch.
Warhammer aaaaand Riot points. Well I don't spend much on Riot points anymore as I'm very much over LoL, but I HAVE spent obscene amounts on them.
I've spent stupid amounts of money on comic books in the past, but I've stopped collecting about 5 years ago. Still that collection is worth more then anything else I own (except my home, but the bank own that really...) Besides that I recently booked my flight/hotel to the Escapist Expo, and I still haven't managed to get the time of work for that... so that might become a collosal waste of money as well...
the action figures.....I just bought a set of 4 online (Mass effect series 2) not to mention 3 of those super expensive "play arts" figures, Adamnjensen, the big guy and the stealth bitch from deus ex:HR (the big guys leg broke off and i have no Idea *where* it broke) and now I see there may be a "play arts" figure of Garrus (and ashley)...2 Garruses? (why not) I bought "the complete" V for vendetta without realising I didnt need too if I wanted to read the thing...looks nice oh and comics...and games...
I don't spend money on stupid things because the things I spend money on aren't stupid. Ok for real, I spend ludicrous amounts on LEGO. I also buy figurines/statues of pop-culture-y things for my various display cabinets.
Well I spent 65$ on Wasteland II just because I wanted the map and the bonus skill, and I've been thinking it wasn't that great an idea but I'll wait until I get my box to make a judgement call on that, other than that well after giving it much thought I am going to purchase a new unopened box of Phantasy Star Online Episodes I$II PLUS for the Gamecube, even though it costs 200 and something dollars, but damn it I've wanted it for way too long so I swear that next month I'm going to buy that, I'm fairly sure that is a waste of money, well I also just purchased a Dreamcast but it hasn't arrived yet, but that was actually just 60$ so not that expensive, I have yet to buy games for it and I also will buy the Arcade Stick, so anyway I'm saying that I want to get into game collecting and I'm starting this year, and I'm going to waste a lot of money on that because I find it exiting and entertaining, though I'm afraid I'm going to run out of space really quickly.
I spend a lot of money on energy drinks...
Aftermarket car parts for my daily driver, which is pretty exotic on this side of the pond (though rather common in the UK)... I'm still torn between an engine swap to something common and Japanese or a $3000 intake manifold. Not that it's necessary, the stock manifold is still fine at 38 years old... but I want more horsepower. ...I'm also seriously considering a $2000 PC build. Mine is... old. Still runs modern games smoothly, but only at medium settings. I think with the next round of games I might be forced to low settings, and that's just unacceptable... but so is Windows 7. Quite the conundrum.
I'm addicted to buying vinyl records. It's really bad, my music taste isn't exactly mainstream and those fuckers can set you back quite a bit if you're buying new. Which I normally do, mainly 'cause I don't trust other people. But arrrrgh I really need to stop. After each one I'm like "Okay, that's it for a while" and then think of some other band I love and run off and buy their shit. My poor wallet.
32 and you own your house? I find that far from stupid. I'm not from the UK, so I dunno how it works over there, but most people here in US don't ever pay off their mortgage. OT: Fast food. I lead a fairly active lifestyle and that's the only reason I'm not morbidly obese. I am a smidge overweight though (210 when the doctor says she wants me to be 190-200... I'm tall). I just love eating delicious food and since I have no time during the day to put any effort into food prep, I just stop by one of the dozens of fast food joints between work, home, and school... Probably 3-4 times a week. That's like $20-25 a week.
These;
Every one bar the 11th Doctor Sonic was indivually expensive as they are out of production now. But the 10th Doctor Sonic at the top is a metal 1:1 replica limited to only 500 in the world. It cost more than my 10th Doctor trenchcoat but it was worth it.
Tobacco. I know, I know, it's terrible.
Well this cost me £50 (and took 7 months to get to me -_-): I want to cry when I think about how much I spent on my cosplay £50 on dress (came with socks and long gloves) about £30 for wig £10 for headgear £16 for shoes I suppose it's not too bad, considering what some people spend. The wig was a good quality and was pretty cheap. The dress was a bargain, some places were selling it for hundreds o_O
I plan to buy one when I finish my studies. Expensive, yet so cool. Other than that:
At the moment I'm spending a lot of money on medical books, which isn't stupid per se but if you look at the prices of those things you'll probably get my point. And I just spent money on a birthday present for my ex, I guess many people would call that stupid enough.
Airsoft. I love the guns, and the military armour/gear (currently bidding a plate carrier from ebay). Smokes. Games.
Sailor Moon manga books. Sure, it's a decent series, but there are better ones out there that I could buy instead. But I feel like I have to. It's a sense of obligation to myself when I was a kid, because I know that I would have loved this series back then.
Probably my manga collection. It's one of the few things I wont hesitate to spend money on when I find a book I need. I have a weird paranoia that I'll never find it again. I've got coming up to 130 volumes so thats nearly a grand just on those books if I brought them all at full RRP EDIT: I miss counted, I have 137 volumes which is nearly £1100
Well I spent like $400 on some Blu Rays of mah favorite anime show... Serial Experiments Lain... special edition, limited release and only in Japan...<.<
I thought it was worth it...<.<

So, i'm making this thread purely because I just spent a quite frankly massive amount of money on a stormtrooper outfit because i've been sensible all year. Its going to be pretty sweet. I want to know what things you wonderful escapists spend your money on, so I feel less guilty about spending more money on an outfit than some people do on holidays and because you guys generally do pretty cool stuff.
Discussion, HO!
