So I'm playing Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, with music blaring because trying to kill 100,000 zombies can get rather repetitive when all your hear zombies being hit.

Anyway, this Fortunate Son cover by Santana ft. Scott Stapp came on.

And I realised I actually like it more than I do the original. There's just something about it I prefer over CCR's original.

So what covers do you like more than the original?

Here's a couple more that I shall add to begin with.

My friend believes I'm an idiot for liking this more than the NIN original (he's a huge NIN fan). I mean the original is good, but Johnny Cash just makes this his own.

I prefer Fergie's voice on this than Axl Rose's on the original. Which also reminds me what a shame it is that she wastes her voice in the Black Eyed Peas.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head for me with Hurt. I'm a big fan of the original, but still, Cash made it his own.

My wife recently put me onto a recording of Chester from Linkin Park doing Rollin in the Deep by Adele, far superior if you ask me.

johnny cash's hurt is still one of the most amazing covers ever, trent from NIN actually said thats as far as hes concerned its a johnny cash song now

mad world by gary jules is better than the cures version

Craorach:
-Snip-

He's quite the vocalist if you ask me. I've heard a story of when he was auditioning to be the singer for LP. Had a couple of guys leave while he was simply warming up.

On Topic:
I choose these by default just based on the fact that I never liked the originals to begin with.

I know I might be lynched for suggesting that a cover can be better than the original version of this song, but I think it's better, god damn it.

How dare you! Which reminds me...

Jonathan Coulton's Baby got Back.

But speaking of other music, I actually prefer Dylan's version of All Along The Watchtower.

And of course you ninja'd me too with Hurt.

Yep, Johnny Cash's hurt is not only one of my favorite covers of all time, but one of my favorite songs of all time.

Can't stand the original, but this version is great IMO.

Andy Shandy:

My god...just...I'd forgotten how epic Johnny Cash's voice was.

Well I would add this but after seeing how badly it's used the silly Prototype 2 trailer, it's a little hard to take seriously... despite how good it is...<.<

OT: I love Dinosaur Jr's cover of Just Like Heaven... they just put there own spin on it... and J always takes the chance during the solo to melt faces as well as talk about his feelings...<.<

also a really crap music video with bad 80's green screen...

Also their cover of Whenever You're Ready by the Cranberries...

Also Galaxie 500's cover of Ceremony by Joy Division/New Order...

Also, Nirvana's cover of In The Pines...

Queen Michael:
Jonathan Coulton's Baby got Back.

Okay, I have to add this. Because it is amazing.

The first one that comes to my mind is Unleashed's cover of Venom's Countess Bathory. I don't know why, it just sounds more energetic and intense.

Original

Cover

The original is still a classic though, but that might be a little obvious.

EDIT: Oh, and then there is a humorous cover of Macarena by Brujeria called Marijuana. I prefer it.

Pretty much anything that Boyce Avenue Covers is better than the original.

Love this cover far more than the original :)

OPEN THE DOOR, GET ON THE FLOOR, EVERYONE WALK THE DINOSAUR.

Andy Shandy:

I thought this was the original for a while, and it is one of the best.

I have some more:

I think better than the Elvis version.

Genesis original, heavier cover, both good.

Say what you will about Nickelback, at least have good songs.

And finally

I don't know why, it just is in my opinion.

The Piano Guys version of Paradise, originally made by Coldplay. I personally think it is amazing.

Also any of their other songs that they do are amazing as well, you should check them out.

How has no-one mentioned the obvious choice here - Muse, voted the number one cover of all time.

Rufus Wainwright did my personal favourite version of Hallelujah, though there's a strong argument for both Jeff Buckley and Leonard Cohen's versions.

I prefer the recent cover of Wherever You Will Go to the Calling's original too.

I like "deadrising 2 off the record" better than the second one. I like Halo 2's cover better than the first. I would go into Iron Maiden, but all their covers were awesome.

I usually despise covers and even more "mixes". However theres one i like and thats Korns Another Brick in the Wall.

Andy Shandy:

My friend believes I'm an idiot for liking this more than the NIN original (he's a huge NIN fan). I mean the original is good, but Johnny Cash just makes this his own.

Heh, even Reznor admitted it wasnt his song anymore.

Anyway.

White Stripes make everything better.

Genre changes are always fun.

ALSO- I really disliked the original- but it does have a damned good riff that translates into guitar-

Don't have a video link, but 'Long Tall Sally'. Originally by Little Richard but I prefer The Beatles version. Paul McCartney made that his own.

anything by the baseballs i like better then the orignal

I dunno, I like some original covers and their covers. But if there's one cover I prefer to the original, it's Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt". (Kinda obvious, really)

I found an awesome cover of The foo Fighters "The Pretender" by a little all girl band by the name of Cherri Bomb that I really love.

I also heard Seether cover Nirvanas "Heart Shaped Box" live, it sounded so much like the original it was amazing.

Bob's version just kills me. This however, I really like.

love Metallica's "whiskey in a jar" sooooo much better than org

Both these are my choices too. Dinosaur Jr are a brilliant band, and Hurt is probably the saddest song in the world.

Glover09:

Genesis original, heavier cover, both good.

These are also good.

No joke, I actually considered making this exact same topic a couple days ago. :P

Anyways, I'll go ahead and say it......I like Metallica's version of Turn The Page better than Bob Segar's. :P

I also like Metallica's version of Whiskey in the Jar more than the original.

How has no one mentioned this?

I still love the original but this version is so... so... well, it's Jimi Hendrix.

EDIT: If someone mentions a Placebo cover I will cry.

Ironically, I strongly dislike this band (outside of the album Horror Show)

Let me think...I know there must be others...

B.B King's "The Thrill Is Gone."

...Yes, that was actually a cover.

I'm also quite partial to Eric Clapton and B.B King's cover of "Riding With The King."

Because who really likes Boney M?
