Blasphemy! Covers that you like more than the original.

I prefer the Hammerfall version of Detroit Rock City better than the KISS original. Also, Disturbed's version of Shout.

I prefer Iced Earths cover on Cities on Flame much more than the original. Think has way more OOMPFH... you could fall asleep to Blue Öyster Cults version.

I prefer Strapping Young Lad's cover of Room 429 to the original by Cop Shoot Cop. Aaand, speaking of SYL, I prefer Devin Townsend's cover of Rammstein's Rammlied. It has banjos and fart percussion!

I think the Muse cover of "Feeling Good" is better than the Nina Simone original. That said, I do still love the original.

Primus' cover of Have a Cigar I like especially. It helps that Claypool is a huge fan of Floyd (he did a whole love show with nothing but their stuff when he toured with Flying Frog Brigade)

Oh and while I don't like it more than the original I still love to bring this up because it's one of the best covers I've ever heard. It's absolutely bonkers and incredibly degrading and SPITEFUL of the source material instead of reverent and respectful. It's just a little bit backwards and it's brilliant because of it.

Sympathy For the Devil. I preferred GnR's version over the original by the Stones.

I know this has been posted already but there you go

Wow, Sum 41 made Nickelback tolerable

IMO way better than the original

Kiss me deadly by the reel big fish

I love Dinosaur Jr's cover of Just Like Heaven... they just put there own spin on it... and J always takes the chance during the solo to melt faces as well as talk about his feelings...<.<

Oh so much this!

On topic

I like the Manic Street Preachers cover of Been a Son more than the original by Nirvana.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for bluesy slide guitar :D

This is the only one I can think of and I love it even more because my school was doing the play at the time this came out.

For me, it's the Moxy Früvous live cover of "Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads. I can't stand the lead singer from the original. He sounds like he's whining. He doesn't sound psycho at all. And the instrumentals just feel so subdued.

Moxy Früvous, on the other hand, had FUN with their cover. And they genuinely did sound crazy, not just in how they sang it, but in their instrumentals as well.

Who needs The Beatles when you've got Jim Carrey?

Beats the original one by far, and along with Johnny Cash's Hurt is my favourite cover

I really liked Peter Gabriel's cover of The Book of Love by The Magnetic Fields.

mine is less blpamashmys then some of you other heathens, iv always loved the clashes "i fought the law" and considering most people are more familiar with the clashes version then Bobby Fuller Four version its not as big a deal as saying you love alein ant farms cover of smooth criminal

one of my favourite songs of all time, only this version though. both halves sound brilliant in their own way

edit: oh, and although i am a massive fan of the irons, this is the only cover of theirs where the cover sounds better. not by much, but ever so slightly...

Bah, double post, bad internet! Bad!

Rise Against's cover of Ballad Hollis Brown, original by Bob Dylan.

WitherVoice:
Sympathy For the Devil. I preferred GnR's version over the original by the Stones.

Interesting, I prefer the Neptunes remix myself

Captcha - carpe diem. It's as if the internet is judging me for wasting time on the internet

I like a lot of the covers done by Vitamin String Quartet, turning many well known songs into string focused arrangements. It's pretty cool if you ask me and a lot of songs sound gorgeous on strings alone. In particular I'm a fan of their covers of:

Andy Shandy:
Snip

You /thread-ed your own thread in the first post with Johnny Cash there. That must be some kind of record.

For me, it just fits.

I'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't prefer this version:

and this one is better than the original, although the original is pretty minimal:

I was actually planning to post this one. It's pretty awesome.

Rise Against's cover of Ballad Hollis Brown, original by Bob Dylan.

Another ninja...

At least this one isn't posted

There's something about Rob Swire's voice.

"Kiss Me Deadly" by Reel Big Fish...I thought it was an original song by them at first, but it surprised me when I learned it was a cover!

VonKlaw:
Because who really likes Boney M?

I do. I almost listed Belfast in my post, but I am not sure if it counts as a cover if a solo act brings a song written for her to the band when she joins, so I left it out. But yeah, I really like Boney M.

Kwil:
Shnip

On that note:

Sorry, Len.

The afore mentioned Cash's Hurt and Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower.

But Social D's Ring of Fire is so much more fun than Cash's

I haven't listened to all the many covers of Bob Dylan's Knockin on Heaven's Door, but I haven't found one I liked better than Warren Zevon's.

Speaking of Warren Zevon, after he died there was a tribute album of covers of his songs. I thought the album was kinda disappointing, but there were some good covers.

Don't know if I'd call it better than the original, but it's really close

Reel Big Fish's version of Hungry Like the wolf.

First and foremost
Nirvana - The Man who sold the world,
And at times:
Guns 'N Roses - Sympathy for the Devil

Well I like the cover better than the original of this song. BUT, I'll let you be the judge...

Poison

Reel Big Fish Featuring Tatiana DeMaria

Tatiana just kind of adds something to a song about phone sex
