So, after listening through the entire VVVVVV soundtrack I now absolutely love chiptune music. If you don't know what it is, it's basically the natural evolution of the old 8 and 16bit music. Also, since I'm drawing something at the moment that is depressing as hell I would like for the Escapist to show me some upbeat chiptune music, not slow and brooding stuff. So, Escapist, recommend me some awesome chiptune music!
I don't know if they actually use old school soundchips to make their stuff, but Starship Amazing is pretty fun to listen to
Try this, from Earthbound
Or this, one of my favourites.
Trash80, Bit Shifter, Sabrepulse, Nullsleep, Gloworm, and especially Anamanaguchi. Have fun.
I don't know of too much offhand at the moment. Anamanaguchi as someone has said and I Fight Dragons for a more chiptune/pop rock sound are some of the few I know. If your interested in a bit of a gamble though, Indie Royal generally throws in a free chiptune album if you throw down seven bucks on their bundles. I think the current one was by a dude named Starscream which gives him instant points in my books.
I would recommend the soundtracks to the Bit.Trip games.Got a free soundtrack CD when I bought Bit.Trip Complete and it's pretty cool
Big Giant Circles has a great chiptune-y album called Impostor Nostalgia. Check it out!
Super Meat Boy has some really nice music, especially some of the boss fights.
The music is mainly there to stop you from tearing your eyes out at the frustrating boss fights.
