WH 40k Your best general build Pages 1 2 3 4 NEXT
I generally just use an unupgraded Reclusiarch. Those guys are so underrated, and they turn Death Company into unstoppable killing machines.
I had a marine chapter that specialised in deep striking and melee, take some basic squads (basic marines are beast as a melee rush, with good stats and heavy armour) with infiltrate and melee weapons, add some jetpacks, terminators, bikes a badass leader and a fire support team of heavys a vindicator and some snipers and it will own everything from tau to orcs (if used correctly) Unfortunately a combination of the new marine codex and rulebook made this army redundant and I took that as my que to quit 40k and eventually quit warhammer altogether as it's so expensive and I get the same thing but better from total war games
I assume that a Reclusiarch is a Chaplain of some kind?
That's an interesting army. Care to elaborate on what your general was? I totally get your reason for giving it up they are astronomically expensive. But Total war games are nothing like warhammer. You dont get to convert things (love converting) there is some customisation like in Shogun 2. But it is nothing like warhammer.
A Reclusiarch is indeed a kind of Chaplain - the Blood Angels' normal Chaplains are Elites choices, but Reclusiarchs are Chaplains with better stats that remain HQ choices. Captcha: eat your vitamins. No u.
Pretty nasty piece of work there and great for the points. Nice build... OT: I play Marines and Eldar... Marines: own chapter - Captain + Artificer Armour, Storm Shield & Relic Blade = 3 S6 I5 power weapon attacks and excellent staying power, 2+ AS & 3+ Inv. And for 175pts, he's better in a fight than a lot of other SM characters, though he's kinda useless in the character support role. Eldar - I rarely ever play Autarchs, mostly Farseers, so: Farseer + Spirit Stones, Doom & Fortune. Surround her with Harlequins, including a Shadowseer and at distance you can't damage the girls at all. Only at mid-range can you contemplate shooting them, but by that time, they'll be within charge distance on their turn. Doom means re-rolls to wound against the unit they charge and considering their S3 attacks (S4 on the charge), they need it, and Fortune turns their 5+ Inv into an effective 4+. Spirit Stones let's her use both abilities simultaneously. This unit of 8 costs 314pts, but deployed well (it's all about the deployment with them), dear lord in hell, Cegorach will Laugh! The rare occasion I do take an Autarch, it'll always be Prince Yriel, mainly because of his would on 2+ power weapon and little else. None of the possible Autarch builds are actually that good for close combat, IMO. However, Jetbike, Mandiblasters, Power weapon & Fusion gun, supported by other guys on bikes, and you have a 130pt rage-inducing cockcroach. But, I'm on record as believing Shining Spears are not really worth it. Still, the Jetbike Seer Council is fucking whack...
Heh, I take a Reclusiarch, a Chaplain & Lemartes... overkill?!
Surely a Space Marine player must know the words: There is no such thing as overkill. There is only "open fire" and "reload".
'Reload'?! What is this 'reload' you talk about?! No, there is only 'bless bolter' & 'open fire'! On an ever so slightly serious note, I customised all my tactical marines to have belt fed bolters.
That is one scary Eldar unit I am never telling my friend about.
I use my cousin's old army of Blood Angels with a few additions (once had my own Tau, but I sucked with them), so very little customisation was an option, sadly. Also he painted them by dunking them into a vat of red paint several times from the looks of things.
With my Orks it is even more simple.... WWAAAAGGGHHHH (that pretty much covers Ork warfare)
You're an advocate of Commorragh, so I'll tell your friend instead! =P
Yeah, the Autarchs are great in theory, but there's virtually nothing to build on the base stats (he doesn't have enough attacks with or without mandiblasters to make either the power weapon or the Scorpion chainsword count for anything and since strategy ratings are now out the window even that's worthless, since Eldar don't do reserves in the main). Still, why wouldn't you recommend a psyker as your lead character? Though to be fair, I have a number of army builds for my 1750pt Eldar army which all have two characters. That Farseer, and either another Farseer (same build as the other one, only running around with Howling Banshees), the Avatar of Khaine (which I'm increasingly doubtful of, these days) or Maugan Ra. The Maugetar is a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet weapon!
Ah, there's a reason for that. The Dark Eldar realised that they had to stay as far from Slaanesh's and (by association) the Gods of Chaos's attention as possible to remain alive because Slaanesh's hold on them is stronger than they can cope with. Psykers have to open their minds (and consequently their bodies and the world around them if they're not careful) to utilise their powers, so the Dark Eldar try their best not to involve the Warp in anything and everything they do. The only 'otherworldly' stuff they have is to do with the Webway (portal etc) wherein they duke it out with their cousins. The old codex (from 3rd Ed) was a better illustration of this. Granted the models were shit and so were their rules, but one awesome thing was their armoury. Literally buttloads of anti-psyker wargear and weaponry. To circumvent this, they have the torture chamber stuff which serves as both a distraction for Slaanesh and they feed off of it themselves to enhance their strength & youth. Hence why they're all portrayed as pirates.
You are certainly well informed.
I always lead my Eldar with an Avatar. WS ten, every Eldar until within 12" is fearless, and has a Melta weapon he hits on a 2+ with. Surround him with Scorpions, Banshees and Avengers, and stomp your way through the enemy with your rolling ball of Space-elf death. Plus wraithlord.
Yeah, I preferred it when they had the anti-psyker wargear, as it's got a whole load of character in it... what with soul trapping, savouring the kill etc. As for the question: what is the one major Eldar artifact that the Dark Eldar don't have an equivalent of? Spirit Stones. As Slaanesh is after all Eldar souls (i.e. Eldar, Dark Eldar & Harlequin). So, the Eldar wear spirit stones that absorb the soul when the body dies and Bonesingers weave the stone into the craftworld architecture. The Harlequins worship the only god to have outsmarted Slaanesh: Cegorach, so he snatches their souls away to safety when the 'Quins die, amidst gales of derisive laughter. And as for the Dark Eldar... they kill as many people as possible and feed off their souls, both to try to fool Slaanesh, throwing a few million souls his/her way when he/she's not looking and to stay alive themselves. Most Dark Eldar of seniority are older than all their non-Necron/non-Tyranid equivalents among the other races. Asdrubael Vect is about twelve thousand years old IIRC.
I play Tau. You figure it out. *Pew pew* *Pew pew pew* *Metallic screech* Fire Warriors, Broadsides, Shas'O.
I have 4 ork boyz. They look very menacing, and that's about it. Might be a good idea to get Assault on Black Reach one of these days.
The Shas'O and Shas'El are some of the best value-for-points you can get out of a HQ choice. 4 wounds for 75 points IIRC - bloody brilliant.
Oh look. Here come some infiltrating Genestealers. I think they want a hug.
Anti Tank Frank. He earned that name. He quite literally punches super heavy tanks into fireballs of doom, he withstood every shot from several thousand points of Imperial Guard and several Space Marine units, including three super heavies and three Basilisks, including that super heavy with the volcano cannon that fires 30 anti personnel shots at a time. He is a Chaos Space Marine sergeant with a power fist. I have literally never a lost a game involving him.
Belial. Terminators. Terminators everywhere! Also I like to include a squad of Grey Knight Terminators for good measure.
You can never have enough 2+ saves and Land Raiders that count as dedicated transports.
I play Tau and I use a simple Shas'El as my commander, an advantage of it is that I can equip it in many ways, so it is hard to actually plan to beat a farsight based army which I intend to make eventually. Tau are boring as fuck to play in beginner matches where you are lucky to get more than 3 rounds of play. Captcha: Bitter end, too right that's how much of my games end.
How do you like your Nids? Original, or extra crispy?
Something like that. The suit's cheap, the upgrades and weapons are what make it expensive.
Really? I've tabled Marine players with way more experience than me. It's such fun to ruin a Blood Angels player's day. They've always whiffed their orbital bombardments, so I wouldn't know how that goes.
My brother is a huge fan of Guardsman Marbo. He dies as soon as he hits the table top pretty much, but he always takes some huge point unit with him. He uses him like a creeper from minecraft. Oh, that's a nice everything you have there, would be a shame if something happened to it.... DEMOLITION CHARGE! He easily kills back his points and over in every game he is in.
i play as space wolves, with a (pretty standard) wolf guard battle leader w/ frost axe and wolf tail talisman, and a rune priest.
Is it true what they say about Ork tech? And it went something like that "Ork wills it and therefore it is."

They've always whiffed their orbital bombardments, so I wouldn't know how that goes.[/quote] It comes down to winning vs fun, Ultramarine's players tend to have that huge look of smugness on their faces as they shut down your army before you can do anything thanks to their bombardments. In my opinoin, when you go to a games workshop game, you enter an unspoken agreement not to use things like bombardments to ruin games and make them into curbstomps. Captcha: Bitter End
Chaos Space Marin Daemon Prince with wings, mark of Tzeentch, warp time and wind of chaos. as i'm word bearers i use the mark of tzeentch to represent the protection given to my Daemon Apostle through his Accursed Crozius.
I transfered the Crozius to each model as the top is made out of 3 OOP chaos icons.
What?! Much as I love the Dark Angels, Belial is one of the worst DA characters, let alone SM characters. What's he got? Rites of Battle, an MCPW & Terminator Armour... he doesn't even have his own model!! Sammael is where it's at... even if DAs are just no longer 'cool' and everyone goes for the Master of the Ravenwing.
That said DW/RW combination against Tau = pwnage! (EDIT - DW/RW combination against Tau = was pwnage! ... !!) I played Blood Angels in my last battle against Tau - entirely composed of Assault Marines except seven Terminators & a Terminator Reclusiarch... man that was savage...
I don't play him for him, I play him for what he gives my army.
That's fair enough, I guess... for 130pts, RoB is pretty good on the guy, but he can't really do anything else... I prefer Sammael for his flexibility (his tooled up bike and greater endurance, since he, not Azrael, oddly, is the DA character with Eternal Warrior)... and his basically horrific land speeder.
Being a complete lazy-arse, I just go for Maugan Ra. I've seen him go toe-to-toe with Abaddon in the past.
2 hands throwing all the figures off the table in a fit of rage, I win.
Warrior Prime, with the Tyranid Codex only having Zoanthropes (and The Swarmlord in melee) the Prime can sneak into any mass unit and stay alive for a long time, and even help in bogging down huge support squads if paired with some hormagaunts.

Everyone has a favourite way of playing their general from commissars to hive tyrants. I was wondering what people thought the perfect general for their army was.
For my Dark Eldar it would be an Archon with (venom blade, ghost plate armour, shadow field and sometimes a blast pistol if it feels appropriate) Not bad for 105pts right?
5 (ws 7) attacks wounding on a 2+, turns the Archon into a killing machine. the shadow field with ghost plate armour, almost guarantees he will live long enough to kill something. If I am going up against terminators I just switch the venom blade for an agoniser (power weapon).
I have had this Archon kill Abaddon the Despoiler alone! and Daemon princes with help from incubi. Also if I add an Archon court unit, he becomes a force of nature.
So what do you lot use as your perfect general. Do you think it could beat my Archon? (arrogant statement of the day, warhammer is all up to dice).
