Micro evolution vs. Macro evolution.

These people generally want to see a time lapse video of some animal evolving, because that's what Professor Oak taught them about evolution.

Just about anybody who claims certain things never happened. Of course you have the right to believe anything you want, just don't point your nonsense cannon at me. Everytime I hear a person say they don't believe in evolution, I keep my mouth shut. Literally just think about other stuff. Can't force my facts on them because that will entice them to want to argue with me. Of course I just let them ramble on and think of something else to talk about. You wait until they are done, then I steer it somewhere else. Now some people might catch on, but others just want to rant and have people listen. They had their moment to shine, opinions did not change, now lets go get something to eat.

Santorum. Not the man, that other thing.

Religion and politics, I used to debate alot, but it just gets boring and repetitive. Debunking point after point after point just gets so tiring

religion, politics, and if games are art. All of them just lead to both parties getting pissed off and nothing being accomplished

Girl/guy problems, having problems with girls/guys sucks I know I've been there, but unless they are unusually disastrous complaining about it on the internet is even worse.

Job/money problems, same reason as above.

Rape, all the topic of rape does on the internet is open a flood gate of awe-inspiring stupidity of almost every variety.

I've also learned to avoid politics and religion if I can, I find you'll get roughly the same results as smashing your head into a wall, you might get something to shift but you'll still have a massive headache.

Abortion, almost as bad as rape in terms of stupidity.

I'm sure there are others but those are the main ones I try to avoid.

Abortion. I might talk about other political or religious topics if I have a strong enough opinion and knowledge on the subject, but it's usually easier not to bother. I won't say I'll never talk about abortion, but I would seriously have to be compelled (possible at gun point) to talk about abortion.

I feel like I shouldn't be allowed to say 'ponies' here. I got an informal warning for asking too many threads that 'I deemed as pointless' to take it to their group chat/wherever they go on the internet.

Lesson mostly learned >_>. You probably havn't seen me making a fool of myself in many of those threads recently, so hah.

Female Genital Mutilation (particularly type III). Partly because someone will always jump in with the cultural relativism argument, mostly because I don't want to ruin my day by remembering FGM exists and is quite common in some places.

There's probably only one topic I'll refuse to talk about on Esc. That would be the topic of circumcision.

I think my first day on the forums I wandered into a circumcision thread, posted my opinion on why I would have rather not had the choice to be circumcised as an adult (thus making it my parent's choice), then was promptly called a moron 20 different ways.

So no circumcision talk anymore from me.

With anyone: Politics and Religion
You will never ever EVER convince someone that you are right and they are wrong and will possibly damage a number of good relationships in the process.

Sexism and Racism
I hate these not because they don't exist, but it's become the go to issue whenever it's one thing versus another....and it bothers the fuck out of me. Any time I hear someone say it, I want to punch them in the face soooo hard.

People I don't know:
Consoles vs Consoles
Consoles vs Computers
New Graphics vs Old Graphics
Relationships
Sex Positions

inb4 Friendzone.

Actually, that's my answer; friendzone.

Unfortunately, I don't think that topic will be leaving these forums any time soon.

ohh yeeeeeeees

AND "this girl left me and I'm so depressed" <- to be unsympathetic but it happens to everyone

But I'm so perfect for her! I saved all her facebook pictures! I know her blood type! I'm so much better then that stupid jock. When has he ever watched my little pony? when has he ever wrote a 10k essay about why Micheal Bay's transformers is the worse thing in the world.

All he does is exercise, socialize, study a bit for exams and stuff. He's never spent ten hours on the internet masturbating to pokemon hentai!

Women!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efTloIPzkkA

Wanted to post this for so long.

Anything to do with politics ever. Partly because I'm well quite right wing, this site is usually quite left wing so meh. Also you get the crazies there.

The classic rape thread goes something like this

"If I'm strong enough to pin a women down and she can't resist then that's consent"
"If you ever look at a women and think she is hot then you are a closet rapist"
"Women aren't intelligent enough to give consent, just want money"
"Patriarchy"
"Feminazi"
"Sexist"
"No u"

What a fucking hilarious post. And that video was classic, thank God I was never like that lol. I don't really have anything to add in terms of OP, some of the threads here start out or devolve into lolers

well on the internet, anything about atheism or region because on the off chance people listen to your opinion (be you religious or atheists) they will just reply with "hurr durr you believe in god LOL RETARD trololol" or something like that (yes i know i'm generalizing, sorry)

I believe this ones popular, but anything that has to do with politics and religion. Even if it starts out reasonable, those topics are more flame-baity than MLP threads. They never end well, especially here.

Bioware/EA hate threads. Usually they are not worth the time because someone has beef when bioware kicked their dog or something.

I can discuss pretty much anything but I keep myself away from stuff I don't know too much about, as in debating. If someone is talking about something I don't know I about I usually try to talk with the person so I learn something new but to debate about something I have little or no knowledge about is something I don't do.

Captcha: They ate it.
No they didn't!!!

Anything that I know nothing about or that makes me want to punch people in the face so hard they turn into a door. (this explains everything http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.374573-Poll-An-idea )

Vault101:

a girl has never left me...there was a guy but I think I may have left him

And he probably joined The Escapist and started posting about it and thus the cycle continues.

I probably wouldn't want to be in a discussion I knew nothing about.

Daystar Clarion:
British food.

I steer well away from that clusterfuck of silliness.

But...Yorkshire puddings, man...

OT: I think I'll discuss most things, but I REALLY dislike talking about politics..It just such a tiresome subject.. No matter where I go, I always hear people saying EXACTLY the same thing *OMG THE TORIES ARE RUINING COUNTRY, SHUDDA VOTED GREEN PARTY* so I try to avoid it as much as I can..And it's also just a rather depressing subject in my opinion

9/11. I just don't care. I stopped caring on the day when there was nothing on the news except the same images over and over again.

I'm not interested in 9/11. Don't talk to me about it.

So many topics I should avoid like the plague include: Watchmen ending, what an adaptation really is, Whedonites, Lucas raped my childhood, Remakes suck, JRPGs are dying, On Disc DLC, boycotting and so on, the ones that I run kicking and screaming towards the door include:

I avoid 9/11 conspiracy topics like the plague. The arguments are circular and the only proof needed for a conspiracy is that their list of people who believe in it is now 100 million usernames strong. So 100 million people believe makes the conspiracy true? No, 100 million names on a list is only proof that you have 100 million names on your list. Grand conspiracy like Bush 41 caused it requires equally as grand evidence.

Those silly: "Person does something against the law, let's all state how bad it is and what punishment they should get, and then argue the morals and politics behind it" threads.

Here? Anything to do with pedophilia. I've come across enough pedo-defense knights and probably more actual paedophiles than I care to count.

The Mass Effect 3 ending is a new one. I just got sick of talking about it.

I don't mind discussing religion or politics in person, but I won't do it on internet forums anymore. I've found that people on the internet can believe some damn stupid stuff and defend it using the damn stupidest logic. And I have never seen anyone change a hard-felt opinion based on the word of a stranger on the internet. It just isn't worth it.

Japanese torture during the Second World War.

Never again.

Here: any kind of "Is * good or bad?" or any similar ridiculously subjective discussion.

Sweeping generalizations about music. It is impossible to reason with anyone who does this. They have already made up their mind, no matter what you'll do you'll never convince someone that dubstep has merits or that death metal is not just noise. All they'll hear is the drone of a fanboy, even if you're being as objective as possible, and all you'll hear is the sound of someone screaming over the top of you to avoid listening. It's a free frustration handout is what it is.

Topics I refuse to discuss? That's a hard one.

There are topics I tend to avoid because generally no one says anything new or interesting in them (i.e. MLP, friendzone, and console comparison threads), and topics I don't post in because someone's already made my point (albeit more eloquently) or I lack sufficient knowledge of the subject necessary to contribute (like tech threads). I tend to find stagnation boring as hell, so I'm attracted to topics where debate is inevitable like your religion, politics, and consumer's rights vs. ip protection threads. Worst case scenario: it devolves into a flame war and get buried under catty bickering and posts that contribute nothing more than a demotivational poster or a quote followed by "I agree with you". Best case scenario: I gain a new insight or perspective into the debate, and get to witness when the champions of either side rise up to deliver verbal smack downs to each other. Even troll threads (not your typical run-of-the-mill post something blatantly offensive threads or threads where the op reveals how out of their depth they are and try to excuse themselves with the "I'm just trolling" excuse) have their place here, because well done troll threads manage to move a discussion or produce delicious melodrama.

I think one of the worst types of threads you could find are homogenous ones where everyone agrees with one another and no original ideas or insight can be found. I steer clear of those, and refuse to post in them.

Oh... how I would absolutely love to shove a copy of Burial's Untrue down the throats of everyone who complains about Dubstep. That would definitely shut them all up for good.

Also, Dubstep (even Brostep) > Death Metal. There I said it.

OT: Emulation, Autism, PC Gaming, Immigrants, Hitler, Relationships (Friend Zone ect) and Gypsies.

I try to avoid these subjects as much as I possibly can. They get far too heated for someone like me.

Way to totally miss the point.

Fight Club.
Wait, does that count as discussing it?

I just wanted to get my opinion out there that's all, not intending to start a flame war or anything.

Party politics (in the UK). I don't have some "tribal" loyalty to any one political party, but the vast majority of people I've had the misfortune to discuss the topic with do (including my entire family, they've been voting for the same party for generations). I cannot understand always voting for the same party year after year, decade after decade without any thought as to how the parties may have changed or which one is best placed to govern under whatever the country's current circumstances happen to be.

The arguments people come out with tend to boil down to stereotypes, woefully out of date examples of a previous incarnation's activities (which often happened before the person was even alive), vague conceptions of parties' ideologies that haven't held true for generations and often, at the end of the day, "because it's what I've always done."

Maybe I'm a bit odd, but I consider it every voter's duty to read the damn manifestos of each party at an election, to research the candidates in your area, do your best to see through the spin on *all* sides, not just the bits that suit your existing biases, and to do your utmost to ensure that you make an informed decision. I find it staggering how little so many people know about the current policies of the parties they "just know" are "right."

I don't have much of an opinion on the American equivalent, because from what I've seen the two major parties actually are substantially different and relatively consistent. The same is not true in the UK.

I've voted Conservative, Green and Lib Dem in various elections in the last couple of years alone. I stand by my vote in each case, and would be happy to justify each choice I've made. But like I said, I've learned to avoid that sort of conversation :P

*breathes* I feel so much better for letting that out. Cheers OP!

Daystar Clarion:

You don't say.

The sarcasm was lost on you, wasn't it :D

That's pretty much how I expected you to look! The actual face, not the expression.
