Immoral Behaviour

 Pages 1 2 NEXT

Hi guys, for a uni presentation I need to talk about moral and social development. One of the sections is about famous cases of immoral behaviour, eg. the Nazi's or Jack the Ripper. Does anyone have another example of immoral behaviour that I could possibly talk about? I can't think of anything at the moment, it's been a long day.

Is that really so hard?
9/11, Utøya, Charlie Manson, pick-up artists, date-rapists, frauds, etc.

Jonluw:
pick-up artists

Being a pick-up artist is immoral? Like someone who is able to meet and date women with ease? Or do we have different definitions?

On Topic:

What is moral and what is immoral?

Depends on who you ask. You ask a Muslim, a Christian a Hindu and an Atheist and you'll get a wide variety of answers.

If you want examples of "Immoral" behavior then wars are your first stops. The obvious examples from WW2 are the Nazi's in both their experiments and gas chambers. However... have a look over at the Japanese prisinor of war camps. Have a look at what they did to American POW's when the Yanks cut off Jap supplies via bombing and they started to starve... have a look at what they ate, or rather who.

When I say "pick-up artist" I am talking about the kind of person who employs disgusting methods to use women for sex.
For example: When meeting a woman at a bar, one of these will begin by breaking down her self esteem by subtly insulting her, all in order to make her insecure and wanting his approval. Thus he has a girl who's easy prey.

Oh. You mean El Douche Grande. I was thinking of the ones that are able to be interesting and gentlemanly and you know... and all around positive guy. Yeah... you definition of pickup artist is definitely an immoral type of person.

Yeah.
Apparently it's called "Negging". Imagine my disappointment when I a couple of years ago found out my best friend idolized this shit.

Talk about people doing something that was immoral in their society, but not necessarily immoral in ours, like the first abortionists and what not. Unless your course is packed up to its skullcap with single mindedness and bigotry, and they perhaps might not appreciate your 'politically skewed' relativism.
To reverse everything I just said, the hedonism of Nero could also be a good one, as you'd be likely pressed to explain why the guy's so apparently limited in morality, but not at all pressed too drastically.

How about animal/ child abuse, maybe the atomic bomb (althought that is another debate itself), genocide (not just the Nazi) and etc?

Just pick up an Eastern European history book. The places round there just get run by bastard after bastard after bastard...

Dude, wrong strip

Son, don't try to play 'make you feel bad' with the Michael Jordan of making you feel bad.

OT: Serial killers are pretty immoral. You can also go with CEOs and psychopathy. If all else fails, you can bring out the bug guns - EA and Activision. Well, I'm joking. Maybe.

How about the craziness of those other dictators, like Mao or the Khmer Rouge dude (or however the fuck you spell that). There are a whole lot of absolutely terrible dictators that get ignored in favor of talking about Hitler. Maybe you should focus on them a little bit.

Morality is subjective and arguing it from an educational standpoint poses the concept that there is some basis for morality, giving credence to some idea of human nature or assuming that there is a god and its rules apply to the mortal realm.

Just about every action ever could be justified from someone's point of view.

What is your actual prompt? If it fits, you should have fun with it. Try to justify pedophilia or something. Make Hitler's logic make sense. There's nothing more satisfying than turning off society's expectations of what's right and wrong and really exploring the "morality" of a situation, taking all factors and variables into consideration. Take on a challenge!

Pol Pot was his name.

You could use the Spartans. They used slaves for target practice, which is an incredibly fucked up thing to do, even back then.

Oh, shit I didn't even realize it said the atheist thing (I'll edit that out). I just goggled evil leaders or something, and then copied and pasted the results from the first site I clicked on. I didn't intend any offense or to instigate a religious discussion.

I am still sceptical about your opinion due to the fact that you copy pasted it from some christian source--no other place would point out the atheist thing--but I'll let it slide because I don't want to get into that kind of religious discussion.

OP: Stay away from politics since the whole "they did it for ulterior motives" and whatnot could dilute your positions. Try to stick to examples from war since war has countless examples of humans abandoning their morality and being inhuman fucks:
- Rape of Nanking
- Iraq (any time the US went there)
- Soviet treatment of their own soldiers
- Nazi concentration camps
- POW treatment during Vietnam war (both sides)

You could analyze certain people like Charles Manson and other 'eccentric' people. I find war much more interesting because of the relationship between commanders (both generals and politicians) and how orders like "capture this position" turn into "rape all their women" and "treat captured enemy soldiers like animals". It is even more interesting how the blame for immorality gets handed out; the higher up the tree the person is, the less blame they take, and vice versa.

Saddam Hussein/Al Quaeda, and the bad things they have done

Okay, seriously: phone vendors, for trying to sneakily deceive you, even though going by the rules.

Like I said I simply copy pasted for the first site that came up. Also, I apologized which is how rare on the internet? Lastly, I posted that as a mistake, you wrote this,"I am still sceptical about your opinion due to the fact that you copy pasted it from some christian source" Knowing full well how bigoted and hypocritical it would sound. Still, I don't retract my apology, in the hopes that you'll learn something from it.

Morality is subjective. Everyone has a different interpretation of what's moral and immoral. It's how a person differentiates between good and evil; it depends on the individual.

I was sure it was an honest mistake, which is why I said "sceptical" rather than "disregard anything you say".
The reason I said "from some christian source", because I don't know any other kind of source that would point out the fact that they were atheist (a matter I will avoid due to the fact that I really don't want to get into that discussion).

Just try to be careful the next time you copypasta :D

I'll invoke Hanlon here. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity; or; Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is completely indistinguishable from malice.

And Mao's "Great Leap Forward" was a rather stupid thing to do if you look at it.
