SirBryghtside: But you can post on WarCry, and since you can access User Groups from WarCry... I've always wondered.
[/showing that I know too much about this place for my own good] :P
I doubt you can post in groups when banned by going via WarCry. You may have been able to for a while but the staff probably caught on if it was possible. If it was/ is still possible then chances are you would see it more often.
Also, nothing wrong with knowing a little too much about this site. I know this through personal experience.
Huh, I thought we'd already been done, before I was an Admin. And after checking, apparently not. Should be fun if we do get picked :D
We were on the featured user group section for ages (part of the reason why we have so many members) but that was before they started doing articles to accompany it. I say we get featured again, damnit!
BlueInkAlchemist would probably be an interesting candidate. Even if his weekly, full voice-over review series is gone for the moment, he still delivers quality work fairly frequently and I have no idea how he balances that with inching ever closer to becoming a published author. There's bound to be some interesting stories in there, and I know he knows how to deliver them, too.
While we're on that subject, I'll throw NewClassic's name in the ring as well. He probably finds the idea of being nominated entirely unnerving, but he's still something of a forum personality and has got what it takes to turn the interview into something witty and enjoyable. Zombie_Fish deserves to be mentioned in the same vein, for being formerly influential and now keeping a bit of a low profile. As does Sevre.
Oh, and Irridium. The guy is up to something and I'm hoping we can get him to accidentally spill the beans on the hot seat. Just make sure to clean the hot seat afterwards.

They both do good work in the User Reviews bit, which isn't frequented as much as the other forums. I think it deserves a little more attention.
(I'd vote for Marter, but he's a Mod like me. I don't wanna seem like I'm favouring him. ;D )
If this does come to pass, I say go with Lost In The Void. I can't stand that other guy.
Interesting suggestions...
Hey just a little question here but when you called them suggestions just now does that mean a nomination isn't totally mandatory for being selected? Or was it simply ambiguous word choice?

My low profile (and possibly Sevre's but we haven't spoken in a while) isn't entirely intentional. I've just been very busy recently with exams coming up over the next month or so as well as other real life dedications. Coincidentally, I might as well let you know now that I probably won't judge for the June ECS as I'll still have most of my exams and I really just want to focus on those and then put my feet up for a while.
him over there: Hey just a little question here but when you called them suggestions just now does that mean a nomination isn't totally mandatory for being selected? Or was it simply ambiguous word choice?
I think the way it used to work was that anyone could get selected by staff regardless of nominations, it's just that nominations are a useful way of imforming the staff about people who may deserve an interview but are under the radar. Then again, even if that was correct for how it used to work it may be entirely different now that someone else is handling the feature.
My pleasure. Anyway, I'd be curious to hear if the new spotlight will put users through the established set of questions ("Who are you?", "What brought you here?, "Do you like bacon?") or if the interview process will be updated or possibly even personalized down to the individual user. Can you shed some light on this or is it too early for definite plans?

Probably too early to define, but I intend to ask some general and some unique questions each time if possible.
I'm glad this is returning, as it was always fun to read these, but it would be great if we didn't select individuals just because they're popular on the Escapist. I don't mind if they're widely known and all, but some of the more lesser-known individuals I think deserve some time in the (pardon the pun) spotlight.
I also question if only individuals with perfect "clean" forum health bars will be selected, out of curiosity.
As for my nominations, I would like to select either...
Brad Shepard, as he's a good friend of mine and I would love to see him get some kind of recognition and/or voice his opinions.
I don't really like this, whoever gets chosen becomes recognized by a lot more people. To even get a chance, you must be nominated. To be nominated, you need to be well-known. So it's basically the already recognizable people getting more recognition.
Look at how many votes Daystar Clarion has, and he has over 10,000 posts. Everyone here already knows him and what his personality is.
I think if someone goes over a certain amount of posts, he/she is unable to be on the spotlight.

You don't NEED to be nominated to be featured. It's not a condition, just a preference. I say this because who knows what the future will hold, you know? We'll be featuring plenty of people that you've never heard of.
Further, anyone is welcome to just nominate a friend, or even themselves. No need to be popular to have one single friend. Or none.

How often are you planning on holding the spotlight?
Maybe interview multiple people in each spotlight?

BreakfastMan: I vote for our great and glorious leader Daystar Clarion. He and the brovengers are slowly, but surely, making this place better for all.
FOR THE BROVENGERS!!!
Let's... hold off on the Brojustice war in staff-made threads, OK? It annoys the people who aren't involved.
Not trying to start any wars. Just showing my support for the Brovengers.
Besides, the vote for Daystar is genuine. Besides starting the B-vengers (which provides endless entertainment), his posts often make threads a joy to read. And the idea of the Brovengers was pretty brilliant, and a great way to lighten up the community. He more than deserves my vote.

Neonbob: I think Redlin5 would be a great restart to this. I'd love to see you grill him on several things. And question him.
I nominate Neonbob. Owner of the epic neckbeard.
Heeeeeeeeey...that's been gone for a long time! I promise! <.< My wife may or may not have gotten to shave off my remaining facial hair after she won a bet. >.>

I find the idea of me having any wit to be utterly and completely ridiculous, mostly because I genuinely think I lack any measure of personality enough to pull it off. That said, I'm incredibly excited to see my name come up even once, much less twice. (Thanks so much, Erana and Hey Joe.)
Beyond that, most of the users I'd point out, thanks to being only really active in the IRC of late, have either been listed several times in this thread, or aren't around any more. I'd be happy to mention Lost and DeadpanLunatic again, as they've both very well-deserving of some recognition for the things they do both on and off the site, especially where community's concerned. (Marter gets a special mention, too, if only for the review aggregate.)
In general, I'm just happy to see this coming up again. Even if it's just a popularity contest with a questionnaire at the tail end, the spirit of the spotlight is to call attention to someone or something special in the community, and whether or not they're already popular for another reason doesn't really have a bearing on the fact that this user's being spotlighted for something.
What I could possibly include if picked, I'll never know.
SirBryghtside: A couple of days ago I said the Brovengers were comparable to Max and PRIATE in terms of forum drama, and I don't mean that in a bad way. Those were the most memorable times I've had on this site :D
Dude, the Brovengers aren't even close to the forum drama PRIATE somehow managed to stir up. They're getting close on the injokes but forum drama, nowhere near. As for Max's forum drama, meh, it was amusing more than anything. XD
OT: I nominate Lost in the Void. Because you'll either catch him when he's really drunk or when he's really drunk.

I completely resent that remark...I was sober...once
