Going in close to get a clear shot would be my first instinct in that situation. Possibly even pointblank if I can manage it. In a crowded theater with people running to exits it would be down to luck if you could get to him without being noticed.

Fair enough, though I wouldn't want to be in a situation where people could have guns in a crowded theater like that since I wouldn't trust everyone to be sensible enough to get close to avoid stray shots.
