No women died though, right?

We're only supposed to care if women are getting hurt, right?

Right?

Toilet:
The terrible terrible (yet beautiful) irony is that the dude probably killed some kids parents in front of him therefore creating a reason for this kid to become a vengeance fueled hero.

NOT.

THE.

FUCKING.

TIME.

These victims haven't been dead for more than 24 hours and you're already cracking jokes about it. That is not okay, and NOT funny. Have some respect for those that were needlessly murdered.

I was making them within the first few posts.

What else can people do, I mean it's not as if all this outpouring of mass sympathy matters much. Might as well cheer up with a few jokes.

Can't tell who's trolling and whos trying to do that.

Toilet's joke above about the Blu-Ray would be hilarious if I didn't have the inkling he said it not for laughs but just to tick the guy off more. Spirit of the joke and all that.

You're right. In a week these people's deaths wont matter and the world will be on with their lives, the sympathy and sadness means nothing in the grand scheme of things.... I don't know I suppose there is no right reaction in this situation.

World's fucked up.

A friend saw this online today. He laughed and said "Clearly he wanted to be Batman!" So I punched him in the balls for being an insensitive twat.

That post is looking incredibly fake, and despite being shared 365,and tweeted 35,you will not find evidence of its existence.
That username is also a dead giveaway(9GAGftw?Really?)

This might be true; however, until it is confirmed by a trustable source that it is, indeed, a fake, 9gag will have earned my eternal enmity and disgust.

When, or if, it is confirmed that the post was not by anyone associated with 9gag, I will retract my statements and feelings of utter contempt and hatred for 9gag then.

A baby. SHOT. POINT. BLANK. What the fuck.

It pisses me off that someone would even bring an infant to a midnight premier in the first place! The event itself is just horrific, and it's even worse knowing how much potential life some of the victims had before the shooting.
May they RIP

Look, granted that was my gut reaction to when I heard about the 3 month old....

But c'mon dude, poor parenting or not, it's not like whoever brought that kid thought a shoot out was going to happen.

Of course not. The parents who brought the child are probably very nice people, and no one would ever even consider something like this happening. That being said, I do believe it was a poor decision to bring a baby to a midnight release.
The one bad decision unexpectedly leads to immense suffering. It's just a cruel turn of events is all I'm saying.

I heard on the radio this morning. Probably the most depressing "gossip minute" I've ever heard. D:

Apparently (I don't have a source), when they called his Mom, she just flatly said "You have the right guy".

Wow this is pretty sick and I just heard about it hear because all of the local news stations around me are reporting on two kids I go to school with going missing and then having their bodies wind up in a field not to far from our town. Today has been one fucked up day.

Well goddamn, this is definitely tragic. Apparently a couple of gunmen went off on a rampage during a screening of TDKR.

I just thought I'd update everyone with this piece of information. Not many details so far.

EDIT:
14 confirmed dead.
Live coverage (Thank you Soviet Heavy): http://www.9news.com/video/9newsonline.aspx

And according to this link: http://www.imperfectparent.com/topics/2012/07/20/baby-among-those-killed-at-mass-shooting-at-the-dark-knight-rises-premiere/ a baby was one of the casualties.

This is nothing short of tragic. Absolutely ridiculous.
Apologies for immense amount of links, just trying to get as many valid sources as possible.

I do not mean to be rude and if this comes off as such, I apologize, but, you seem to have made the common error people make when it comes to determining the numbers in regards to various countries instances in crime. You simply took the total number, which gives a base line, but failed t accomplish the next step which is to determine the per capita of each crime.

For example going with the numbers you have provided if a country had a population of ~300 million and had 8775 gun related deaths in 2011, and another country had a population of ~80 million and a death rate of 953. The per capita rating for the first country would be .00002925%. The second countries per capita is .00001191%. Even though the second country has a very, very, very, smaller level of gun related deaths, the difference is not statistically significant (typically +/-3.00%). So if someone says that the levels of gun related deaths are comparable to some European countries, then yes, they are correct in the sense that so long as the difference isn't statistically significant.

Since a bunch of people are still posting that 9GAG image, I'd like to direct them to this post by marche45. The huffpost article is particularly illuminating as they actually went to the trouble of doing a thorough check and have some pretty convincing reasons to conclude that the images posted on 9GAG are completely fake

marche45:
That 9GAG picture is obviously fake.
This wouldn't be the first time someone tried to make them look bad(Namely 4chan).

What makes it even more sick is that people are using such a tragedy for their stupid little internet rivalry.

This is so fucking pathetic. Looks like a few kids need a spanking for being apathetic twats.

This is why I don't go into movie theaters that don't like me conceal carry.

If only Batman was there to save them...

Usually such a circumstance would allow for a lot of bad puns and crappy jokes, a few of which have come to mind, but I really don't want to make any of them at a time like this.
Damn it. Just, Damn it...
Oh, and the people trying to lay the blame on others to serve their own pathetic little vendetta against another religion/political group/FREAKING WEBSITE ON THE INTERNET/etc. fills me with almost as much putrescent anger as the shooting itself.
I need something to drink.

Captcha was: no means no
Damn straight, Captcha.

I'm just wondering, how did he get the Tear Gas? I mean, it's not like you can just go and buy that stuff. Can you?

MercenaryCanary:

So you'd take out your gun and start shooting in a crowded area trying to hit one guy as everyone panics?

Going in close to get a clear shot would be my first instinct in that situation. Possibly even pointblank if I can manage it. In a crowded theater with people running to exits it would be down to luck if you could get to him without being noticed.

Fair enough, though I wouldn't want to be in a situation where people could have guns in a crowded theater like that since I wouldn't trust everyone to be sensible enough to get close to avoid stray shots.

Yeah, granted in the situation I suggested you'd have to keep a pretty cool head to be successful. Not many people would be able to accomplish it that way I'd imagine.

I've been lurking for a while now, but felt compelled to create an account just to point out the bollocks in this post. You have literally pulled that 3% number out of your arse haven't you? Thats certainly not how you measure whether something is statistically significant. The first country with .00002925% which I guess is America, is nearly 3 times higher (300% if you prefer) than .00001191... That looks fairly significant to me, although I'm not actually going to crack out my old math books and measure the degree of significance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence#Homicide - That's a link to a table with homicide firearm rate per capita. Numbers are from a UN report, so fairly accurate, although I admit its 10 years old now so perhaps outdated. The USA has 2.97 gun murders per 100,000 in a year, compare it to say Canada with 0.54 or England with 0.12, and its fairly obvious that America has a far greater degree of gun violence. Of course statistics don't really matter, people will continue to bury their heads in the sand and claim that by giving everyone a gun, everyone is safer...

Also to people claiming "Well if he couldn't get guns he would have just done it with a knife!", you go out and try to knife 50 people without them running away from you or them tackling you to the ground. I doubt it will go well.

Words to describe this escape me. Horrifying and evil just don't seem to do it justice.

While stories have said Warner is considering pulling the movie from theaters, at least for a while I think the first bit of fallout will be the probbale cancelation of the movie Gangster Squad. Saw the preview before Spiderman (just last week) and there is a scene where the squad comes through a movie screen shooting up the audience.

Personally I'm all for cruel and unusual punishment for this guy!

Dallas-35:
I'm just wondering, how did he get the Tear Gas? I mean, it's not like you can just go and buy that stuff. Can you?

It can be "DIYed". It was probably something along the lines of all those homemade smoke grenades you find on youtube but mixed with an irritant like wasabi or pepper extract.

I...I just...I don't even...I...fuck. Please tell me that Colorado has the death sentence. I seriously want this fucker to fry.

Ha... that's in my neck of the woods. Good thing I'm a patient bastard.

MercenaryCanary:

Yes, in the dark and under the effect of teargas against a guy with full body armor and an AR-15. You'd show him who's boss. Yeehawwwwwww!

ElPatron:
OH BOY, HERE WE GO AGAIN.
The right to bear arms does not mean that he has the right to carry his weapons to a theater.

So, you're going to tell him sternly not to do it again, and next time he wants to go on a murderous rampage, he'll leave his firearms at home right? ^_^

Quaxar:
Not to change topic or anything... but who the hell takes a baby to this kind of films.

It's not that uncommon. Babies are really good at sleeping through loud noises, and it's pretty much impossible to find a sitter for a midnight release.

Aeonknight:
Ha... that's in my neck of the woods. Good thing I'm a patient bastard.

Where do you live man? I'm right on Hampden and Tower, I got sunburned at Water World and decided not to go because my shoulders were on fire.

I still think it's strange that they are ramping up security at other theaters. I mean, I'm going to see the Dark Knight Rises later today, and I'm not really worried that someone's going to try to shoot me for a few reasons. This is different than a school shooting, it is meant to accomplish something different than a cry for attention, evidenced by the fact that the gunmen were masked and had bulletproof vests. They wanted to get away. Whatever it was they were trying to accomplish, attacking another theater, at least one showing the same movie, wouldn't make much sense. If this was supposed to be terrorism, the idea would be to strike as many different places as possible, to show some kind of "you're not safe anywhere" sort of thing. It it were people who just get off on killing people, attacking another theater would be stupid, because now they're expected there. I know the theaters need to do something, because they don't want to loose customers to hysteria, but I'm not sure it will be necessary. Just my thoughts.

I'm out in Thornton, you're probably closer than I am. But I work out in denver so... yea. Speaking of which... talk to you all later.
