I currently reside on an island. Your move.

Read the entire OP. Your move. ;)

DrRockor:
I'm in England so I just checked a map and the countries that seem the closest are Island, France and either Belgium or the Netherlands. I'd go with France I think. Place seems nice, I haven't been there in, I think 15 years and my vague memory is it was cool.

Do you not count the Republic of Ireland as an independent nation, you imperialist dog?

I jest, but my point stands.

Eliam_Dar:
Well, I live in Argentina. So my choices are Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay or Brazil... I guess it will be Uruguay since we are not that different, but Brazil sounds tempting too.

How do you get over Portuguese though? I hate the language. It's like drunk Spanish.

I live in Argentina. So my options are Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Brazil's out since I don't know Portuguese. Paraguay and Bolivia are too damn miserable, thank you very much. This leaves either Chile or Uruguay. Here I'm more partial to Uruguay (Argentina's Canada :P). Besides I've got family there. And I wouldn't miss much of anything. It's like a cleaner, mini Argentina.

Between Wales, Scotland or France I think I'd go with Wales. I have lots of family there for a start.

I'm going to move to the United State's hat. Canada.

I'm an American, so Canada. Seems nice, good healthcare, cool scenery

Canada, thank you. I've heard that it's very pretty and a good place to live.

To Middle-earth it is, then.

Well, Even though i hate both Canada and Mexico, i would move to Canada because i would atleast be able to communicate with them, and i wouldn't have to worry about getting killed, hallowed out and stuffed with drugs and sent across the Rio Grande back into the U.S. if i was in Mexico

I live in Canada. By the rules I suppose I can pick Denmark(Greenland), The UK the US or Russia. Greenland is bloody cold, the politics in the US are completely, not borderline but bloody completely insane, Russia has a genuine true to life Bond Villain for a leader so that leave the UK.

Good thing I have adventurous food tastes because I hear the food there is...difficult to get used to. At least there is less snow.

Would seem I'm off to England. Sweet!

Well I'm livingin Wales which is next to England so I can settle with that no problem.
Heck I prefer the city life in England than I do with the coyntry side over here!

Finland -> Norway, Russia, Sweden (or Estonia). I think I'd move to Norway.

BOOM headshot65:

1) Can I have a M1897 Winchester "Trenchgun" (pump shotgun with a bayonet lug) and a Colt .45 Pistol and can I use them for self defense?
2) How is Canadas record in Interventionalism (stepping in and stopping conflict in other countries)?
3) How often is your conservative party elected?
4) Is Patriotism viewed in a negative light there?
5) How popular is the idea of a Flat Tax?
6) Is open displays of faith frowned upon?
7) How popular is country music up there?

1) I am not too sure. You certainly are allowed to own guns here (though with some restrictions). Though it's certainly not to the same degree as in the States.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Canada More info than I can provide if you want.

2) We tend to pretty involved actually. Our military is relatively small (all volunteer) but quite effective. We still have soldiers in Afghanistan for instance, and we helped with Libya last year. Actually former Canadian Prime Minister Lester Pearson is credited with basically inventing UN peacekeeping.

3) The Canadian conservative party currently has a majority government (though I will grant you that they have some serious popularity issues with a lot of Canadians at the moment, so next election may alter that).

4) No, not really. We pretty much love our country and aren't afraid to say it (stereotypical Canadian politeness might force to add some modest remark about other places being nice too though ;) But as an example Canada Day (basically our 4th of July) involves thousands of people wearing white and red and painting the maple leaf on their faces while watching fireworks.

5) We are probably more socially democratic than you guys on that one, but honestly I don't know too much about it.

6) We aren't France, so it's all good. We just tend to be less in other peoples faces about it. That being said we do actually have 'God' in our national anthem.

7) Country music is plenty popular up here. Especially in certain areas. Alberta for one.

Just thought I'd answer as best I could, hope that gives you some more insight on your neighbours to the North!

Oh, and as relates to the topic, the right to more easily own guns is actually one of the reasons I wouldn't mind moving to the States.

I live in the UK so my options are France, Belgium and Ireland. For me its absolutly no contest as I love Ireland and am at best indifferent about France and Belgium. Plus the fact that the Irish speak English as a first language is a big plus.

Well, I live a 1-hour drive from Canada so, meh.

But my wife is a native hispanic and I'm pretty close to fluent in Spanish, so the safer parts of Mexico might be nice. Way better weather than Canada, other than the hurricanes in the east coast. More beautiful beaches and locales. Authentic Mexican food in the Southern half of the country (not Tex-Mex)

What Portuguese sounds like drunk Spanish? Brazilian Portuguese or 'original' Portuguese? Either of those beats Spanish.

As I currently live in Belgium, I would either choose Netherlands or Luxembourg.

What is this, a boxing match, Tintin?

Czech Republic here, so Germany, Poland, Slovakia or Austria... I think I´d choose Slovakia which would be like no change at all (we even used to be one country), or maybe Germany, dunno... Go west!

Being from the US, I guess I can choose between Canada, Mexico, Russia, Cuba, and The Bahamas. Mexico is a borderline third world country with a serious drug problem (thanks largely in part to batshit retarded politicians in the United States), Russia is cool but the language is one of the hardest to learn (says the guy learning Japanese), Cuba is like Mexico but Communist, the Bahamas are cool but I can't say I'd want to live there full-time. Toronto, here I come! Tallest observation deck in North America, the largest underground pedestrian tunnel network in the world, and the home of Scott Pilgrim? Fuck yeah!

Professor Lupin Madblood:
Well, I live in Canada, so there's really one option.

France.

(Yes, I'm serious.)

France? It's bad enough dealing with Quebec, and you'd want to move to France?

The only proper choice is Denmark.

Professor Lupin Madblood:

France.

(Yes, I'm serious.)

Well, according to Sarah Palin, I believe Russia is an option because you can see it.

it depends for me. i live in England so do i pick either Wales or Scotland (id pick Wales btw) or do i count it as UK in which case im on an island so we dont share any borders except for the republic of Ireland so i have only one choice.

someonehairy-ish:
Between Wales, Scotland or France I think I'd go with Wales. I have lots of family there for a start.

The UK counts as one country, no?

Your choices are R.o.I France and I think Jersey but maybe something northeast.

Don't pick Jersey it's so bloody small.

I live in Germany, and I would most likely move to Austria, since it's the only neighbouring country where I speak the language. Also, I like mountains.

...

Nope.

Try telling that to a Scotsman... or an Irishmen or an Englishman for that matter.

Being Norwegian, I could go to finland (tempting, I guess. Lotta lakes.), Russia (Too fucking cold, and I woke up to -25C this morning), or Sweden (basically Norway 15 years ahead in everything).
Söta Bror, here I come!

As an American, I don't value pinatas and cheap booze more than the ability to rule the country by owning the only gun. I'd try to set up in Ottawa, but end up going the wrong way on the only road and end up in Newfoundland. Upon successful takeover, I'd rally the walruses and take Alaska, completely crippling the country that screwed me over.

Well, being Canadian, I think Russia's pretty close, and honestly I think I'd be cool with living there... so long as someone could transplant some kind of knowledge of the Russian language into my brain.

Barring that, using the technicality from earlier to go to France.

Dimitriov:

living in Kansas, United states, its either Canada or Mexico.

What to do. Take the safetly of Canada, but go politically insane (and maybe physically/mentally insane because of going politically insane) or Mexico where I will still most likely go politically insane, but have a higher chance of getting shot by the cartels. I think I will go to Canada, and just try and find somewhere more conservative. Isnt there a territory that is like Texas, but alittle more left leaning? If so, I know where I am going.

That would be Alberta... our Texas. They vote conservative, they have a ton of oil, they wear freaking cowboy hats... yeah it IS weird.

Of course there's more hockey than football... but there is still football.

Of course I am curious what about our politics YOU think is so insane. I mean there's lots to choose from, just wondering what you'd picked up on down south.

Well, we vote conservative by Canadian standards. And actually I voted for the NDP.

And I wear a Fedora, thank you very much, that's completely different from a cowbay hat! Jeez!

being from england if i have to choose between wales scotland and ireland, i pick ireland because it's different enough to england without the different language

if you don't count britain as 4 countries then the US because i can't speak french and my spanish aint great

I hang my head in shame good sir.

Would seem I'm off to England. Sweet!

reserve your sweet, it's a colder, more boring, poorer US (except were slimmer and have less idiots (not saying most Americans are stupid, but a lot of them are))

apparently we also have better chocolate and worse sweets

so, as germany is my home the options would be: uk, belgium, italy, france, chzech rep, poland, austria, denmark and liechtenstein.
1.uk : greasy food, stale beer, awful bread, polite people and doctor who but too small and too few trees -> nah
2.belgium: funny accent, weird beer, nice food, comics -> meh
3.italy: stale beer, awful bread, but pizza, lasagne, bruschetti, wine and beaches, cities look like slums ->nah
4.france: worst beer in tha vicinity, wine, weird food, incompetence towards languages, ->meh
5.czech: passable beer, pretty cities, cheap as f*ck ->mh sure why not
6.poland: no, just no. kleptomania and poisonous alcohol ->no
8.austria: pretty landscape, passable beer, almdudler, ->probably my option
8.denmark: beaches, beer, edible bread -> sure why not
9.liechtenstein: low taxes ->meh

I live in Germany and I'd move to Britain if I could. But it's oversea and stuff so I choose Austria. It has some great cities, they speak almost my language, they have AWESOME cake and their beer is alright. Their politics are a bit f***ed up and the police force in Vienna is a little racist I think but hey... CAKE AND BEER!
