How do you get over Portuguese though? I hate the language. It's like drunk Spanish. I live in Argentina. So my options are Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Brazil's out since I don't know Portuguese. Paraguay and Bolivia are too damn miserable, thank you very much. This leaves either Chile or Uruguay. Here I'm more partial to Uruguay (Argentina's Canada :P). Besides I've got family there. And I wouldn't miss much of anything. It's like a cleaner, mini Argentina. | |

Greenland is bloody cold, the politics in the US are completely, not borderline but bloody completely insane, Russia has a genuine true to life Bond Villain for a leader so that leave the UK. 1) I am not too sure. You certainly are allowed to own guns here (though with some restrictions). Though it's certainly not to the same degree as in the States. 2) We tend to pretty involved actually. Our military is relatively small (all volunteer) but quite effective. We still have soldiers in Afghanistan for instance, and we helped with Libya last year. Actually former Canadian Prime Minister Lester Pearson is credited with basically inventing UN peacekeeping. 3) The Canadian conservative party currently has a majority government (though I will grant you that they have some serious popularity issues with a lot of Canadians at the moment, so next election may alter that). 4) No, not really. We pretty much love our country and aren't afraid to say it (stereotypical Canadian politeness might force to add some modest remark about other places being nice too though ;) But as an example Canada Day (basically our 4th of July) involves thousands of people wearing white and red and painting the maple leaf on their faces while watching fireworks. 5) We are probably more socially democratic than you guys on that one, but honestly I don't know too much about it. 6) We aren't France, so it's all good. We just tend to be less in other peoples faces about it. That being said we do actually have 'God' in our national anthem. 7) Country music is plenty popular up here. Especially in certain areas. Alberta for one. Just thought I'd answer as best I could, hope that gives you some more insight on your neighbours to the North! Oh, and as relates to the topic, the right to more easily own guns is actually one of the reasons I wouldn't mind moving to the States. | |
I live in the UK so my options are France, Belgium and Ireland. For me its absolutly no contest as I love Ireland and am at best indifferent about France and Belgium. Plus the fact that the Irish speak English as a first language is a big plus. | |
Well, I live a 1-hour drive from Canada so, meh. But my wife is a native hispanic and I'm pretty close to fluent in Spanish, so the safer parts of Mexico might be nice. Being from the US, I guess I can choose between Canada, Mexico, Russia, Cuba, and The Bahamas. Mexico is a borderline third world country with a serious drug problem (thanks largely in part to batshit retarded politicians in the United States), Russia is cool but the language is one of the hardest to learn (says the guy learning Japanese), Cuba is like Mexico but Communist, the Bahamas are cool but I can't say I'd want to live there full-time. I live in Germany and I'd move to Britain if I could. But it's oversea and stuff so I choose Austria. It has some great cities, they speak almost my language, they have AWESOME cake and their beer is alright.
