But as a valve fan I don't see anything wrong with kissing the ground Our Father Who Art At Valve walks upon. Seriously though most of it is just a few who seem to hate everyone and everything, most are apathetic at best.
There are a few fan-bases I have never seen bashed on this site: - Persona fans Just a few I can think of off the top of my head.
I've seen many people who don't even know that "fan" is shorthand for "fanatic". They just associate the word with "People who like something". I honestly didn't even realize it until an episode of Doctor Who brought it up. I then proceeded to slap myself on the forehead, because it was such an obvious connection that I didn't realize until I was in my 20's. OT People will always attack other people with stereotypes, that's what we do. We single out certain groups of people and proceed to pick them apart in order to make ourselves feel superior. Thus is the nature of the Human animal.
The Kirby fanbase has not been called out on, and for good reason, because every single thing in the known universe about Kirby that ever was and that ever shall be is Great and I will NOT HAVE ANY WORDS SAY OTHERWISE! well, unless you mean to say Kirby isn't merely great but rather that he's Fantastic. That is acceptable.
I wish there was a signature system so I could quote this in it.
People just love to make others look bad and this website is no different. There are many reasons, like willful ignorance, actual ignorance, making yourself feel better, making your own group look better, anger because they like something you don't etc. I hope it's something we humans will overcome at some point but right now, everyone who's not you or likes things you don't understand, is either crazy or stupid and everyone will be lumped together with the, usually very few but loud idiots.
I agree with this. Kirby is a fuckn' baller. I may have to start using my Kirby badge again sometime soon.
Maybe i just wasn't looking hard enough but minecraft doesn't seem to take much flak prolly people fearing the fanbase.
I have never heard anyone say anything bad against the original Might and Magic und Heroes of Might and Magic series.
I think Red dwarf, seems to be a safe bet on the Internet.
Megaman, Mario, The Avengers and Batman.
I can link you many many topics that prove that one otherwise
You know the pic you showed is mocking them right? That was a joke. Embracing it doesn't mean they are mocking them any less.
I don't think Dr Who fans get trashed much.... ... after all, fezzes are cool.
I'm surprised more people don't mock fans in general.
I mean, ew, just look at the thing. Revolting. Thanks for your limited circulation of air, Mr. Fan. It's just a damn shame you couldn't be more like your brother, Mr. Air Conditioner. Why don't you just continue to suck some more? (I realize my comments may be hurtful to the large population of fans here on the Escapist. Sorry guys, but it just had to be said. Nothing personal.)
People who play Magic The Gathering seem relatively un-mocked here.
Numismatists (people who collect coins) never get mocked anywhere I have seen on the internet.
Well I have never been called out for being a Babylon 5 fan
I'm curious as to how someone with such an open mind can have such a high forum health meter? Perhaps your "sour" experiences are related to this? Also I recall you saying something before... what was it: "Also can you really say that all gamers are assholes when the people that run off and shoot their mouths off are a vocal minority? A few bad apples does not a harvest spoil." Replace "gamers" with escapists and "assholes" with whatever adjective your labelling this community with and you've basically got my angle on this discussion.
The Community...community? The only bad thing I've seen about it was when I said that they're not the most hospitable people to people who enjoy The Big Bang Theory (even if they also enjoy Community too). But in that post, I also pointed out that the Community fandom is also capable of very awesome things like making an actual game based on an episode of Community where the study group are playing said game.
A thread about mocked fanbases and no mentioning of Nintendo fans? For shame, nobody is treated more like a leper colony here.
I have to ask, is this one of those fandoms built around something hilariously bad or do you genuinely admire and respect the Scorpion King 3? Not judging, just curious.
The question is what fandom isn't mocked so yeah nintendo fans aren't mentioned well because what you typed already
That's true, all those assertions are made on this site, some more frequently than others. But all of those fandoms are also celebrated by their members in the other half of the posts in every thread, so I'm not that bothered by it. Although...there are a few things that are generally upheld, like Chronotrigger and Cowboy Bebop. And PC gaming.
Don't think I've seen much hate for Doctor Who as a whole. There may be a few Moffat haters, but nothing of a major degree.
I have posters and shirts of EA games (like Dragon Age).
Morgan Freeman. Nobody makes fun of the Freeman.
People who are fanboys of mocking fanboys are pretty much never mocked. Think about it... Okay, what I just said does sound very silly, but there is a point buried in it.
To everyone who always want to start wailing about how people are just "giving their opinions" whenever topics like this come up, let me inform you of a fact that you all need to be aware of. "FUCK YOU" IS NOT AN OPINION. It is not, by definition of the word, an opinion. It is an insult. Insults aren't used just for disagreeing with someone's opinion. They're used when you try to make someone feel stupid as a whole for not sharing your opinion. And if you absolutely need to do that in the process of expressing your displeasure with something, then there's something wrong. For instance:
I have always considered this a bullshit claim. Mass Effect 3 was always advertised to me as a game that concluded the trilogy and took decisions I made in the first two games into account as to how the third game played out. And it delivered in both categories throughout the ENTIRE game and not just in the endings. I don't know where this "17 different endings" thing came from. And besides, it ultimately doesn't matter because the game that was originally delivered was the game that I was promised. And a DLC that was forced to be made with only one additional cutscene that could be considered an actual improvement (the crew gathering to add Shepard's name to the memorial wall in the "Control" ending) doesn't justify all of the other stupid unnecessary crap that came with it, free or not. I say this as a Mass Effect fan from the beginning. Not an EA fan, not a Bioware fan, a Mass Effect fan. Someone who is so passionate about the series that they'll call out their "devoted hardcore fans" for doing the exact same thing that the Parental Watchdog Groups that we all can't stand are trying to do! Because it doesn't matter if you're trying to force them to remove content they don't want to remove or add content they don't want to add, it still results in the same outcome. You're making them change something they don't want to change to please you, and ONLY you, and damn everyone that disagrees with you because everyone's universe centers around you. (And I mean "you" in a general sense of that section of the fanbase.)
Because everyone that enjoys those things are "mindless sheep" that will accept anything that is given to them, right? There's absolutely no way that that anyone could actually enjoy those things because they themselves decided to like it of their own free will? Once again, merely expressing opinion or adding unnecessary insult?
The irony here being that you are mocking PC gamers. ;D But really, if anything, PC gamers get a bit more hate around these parts than console gamers. Seriously, it's true. You are far more likely to see someone mock someone else by calling them a member of the "elite PC master race" than you are to see someone tossing the "console-tard" or similar comments towards a console gamer. Even if PC gamers account for a majority of the posters on this site. But, then again..
We can be a fairly proud, if pretentious, lot. Eh, Rawne? I know I am.
Well, I guess I'm one of the few then. I currently have hats adorned with the logos for: Valve Now I just need one from Ensemble or similar, so I can call them my "River hat" collection.
Dr. Who fans get surprisingly little mockery thrown their way.
Come again for Big Fudge? Since when are Bethesda fans exclusively XBox 360 players? You do know that Bethesda released at least 6 total Elder Scrolls games, right? And that none of them were Xbox exclusive, right? So far, the only Bethesda-related stereotypes I'm aware of are the following: * Morrowind fans are elitists who hate Oblivion and Skyrim for all the wrong reasons. * PS3 gamers who bought Skyrim can't stop whining about their "game-breaking" bugs and how "they've lost all hope in Bethesda". This even on articles declaring release dates for patches and DLC. Don't get me wrong; The Elder Scrolls Saga is a highly flawed, but enjoyable franchise. It's just that if you listen to the above people, you'd think that Todd Howard turned the series into a Modern Warfare clone.
Velvet Underground fans, I guess.

The real question is, is it the same people mocking everything, or different people mocking different things? (Hint: It's the second one).
As stupid as this sounds (and is), being able to find an example of EVERYTHING being mocked is a sign of a healthy community as far as the internet is concerned. As long as you don't consist entirely of misanthropic pan-haters, it means you have a diverse range of things that people actually DO like.
