Paperboy Posts: 12 Joined: 3 Feb 2008 | Some of my favourite animes are Naruto, Bleach, D.Gray-Man, some of the Gundam series (such as Seed, Seed Destiny and Zero-Zero), Full Metal Alchemist, Trinity Blood, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Gun X Sword, and well over a dozen other animes. Also what site/s do you use to download your anime from? |
Press Junketeer Posts: 388 Joined: 4 Jan 2008 | I'm pretty mainstream. Akira is my all-time favourite, along with many of the Miyazaki films. I don't think I ever get very obscure with anime. |

Why thank you! Always appreciate a fan! /out of context quote Personally though, I'm not much of an anime fan. But video games based off anime licenses I know. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is really fun on the Wii. Lost a ton of multiplayer hours on that one. Same goes for Naruto Ultimate Ninja 2 (Though it does get old once you've done everyone's special move a few times). Though I haven't played it, I've heard Bleach: The Blade of Fate for the DS is a fantastic game. It's also the one anime series I really love, so you can't go wrong in my eyes. Oh, and I saw Jump Ultimate Stars (or whatever) at a booth during PAX. That game is like Smash Brothers times ten. Every freaking manga you can think of is represented in that game. |

Oh yes :P You have to check out Fullmetal Alchemist if you havent seen it! Otherwise most have been said.. Cowboy Bebop and Akira are alltime classics but you should also se Elfen Lied. And also everything you can find over att KickAssAnime. |
Muckraker Posts: 289 Joined: 22 Dec 2007 |
Elfen Lied? Not everyone can take massive amounts of blood, violence, gore, suggestive themes, nudity, cousins in love, and death by pen. If you're into the light-hearted sort of thing, there's always Haruhi, A bit darker ones like Fate stay night (Which I'm not a fan of myself, but it exists), code geass (DAMN YOU CLIFF HANGERS! DAMN YOU TO HELL!), and, if you want something obscure, Tsukihime. As for games, I have to utilize this opertunity to point out the game Melty Blood, even if it is in japanese.
Busou Renkin, that's the one with alchemy and the butterfly-dude-villian, and the Kid borrowing his sister's clothes for his friend, but no one ever questioning it, right? |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 760 Joined: 7 Jan 2008 | Somehow i get myself less and less involved with Anime. For me, the true "Golden Age" (Trigun, Noir, FMA, Hellsing, Cowboy Bebop and so forth) kinda ended with the likes of GITS: Standalone Complex and Samurai Champloo, and since than i was pretty much disappointed by just about every Anime Series i invested myself in (well, at least there were still good movies from time to time, like "The Girl who leapt through time" and the Satoshi Kon stuff) Code Geass had got my hopes up again for a time, but the hilariously stupid plot twist in the last few episodes kinda ruined it for me. I occassionally look into the new stuff, but unless some fun manga series get animes (Deadman Wonderland ist devilish fun) and/or unless the guy who made Cowboy Bebop and Champloo makes something new, i might never be interested that much in anime again... |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2865 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | One Piece, Bleach, FMA, Berserk, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, Detective Conan (Manga), Pokemom Special Manga (Not Anime), Black Cat feels like a New Age Cowboy Bebop but not as good. those are my favorites, and i will defend any of them (specifically One Piece, Bleach and Pokemon)and i seriously suggest before anyone Slams my list they drag there ass down to a Manga store or Scan-site, Read/watch I would provide a link to a bunch of hosted Manga but i haven't checked the TOS Recently and i dont wanna be banned |

SpiderLotus- what genre do you like? Let's start from this. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2865 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | oops forgot Evangelion about Games made from anime Generally Shit, but a few shining gems, not as a bad as Games made from Movies which are just fucking horrible oh and Astroboy, cant forget the Father anime EDIt: also call Naruto as retarded as you want, but I generally LIKE Bleach, sure Tite Kubo is Rehashing Arc 2 really at the moment, but i got over the initial Disappointment i also feel Bleach got Rated Higher than it should, and One Piece to low, One Piece is a very good Anime/Manga alot of people disregard it for the 4Kids Shit, but it has a few heart pulling moments, a Few Action Packed Explosive moments, and the Enies Lobby Arc was a Work of True brilliance, where the strawhats didn't defeat the buster call, but they exhaustedly defeated CP9, Reclaimed Robin and Escaped from Certain death or when Zoro Offered his life in exchange for Luffy's to save his captain against Kuma, oh sure you may not like Quirky humor, a generally SMALL cast with 9 heroes, Generally Uncliched or Interesting fighters look maybe i'm biased, I grew up On Tekkaman, Gundam, Dragon Ball and Trigun, i still think Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion are two of the best Anime in existence, but i believe One Piece, while not on THAT level of godliness, Is a true Gem a True gem that was utterly RAPED and BURNED by 4Kids but a true Gem none the less, and if you feel like arguing, Read all 430 odd Chapters, From start to finish, and Debate it with me. Like i said, Maybe i'm Biased, but One Piece gave me a feel that Bebop gave me, that Trigun, Evangelion gave me, That Berserk and FMA give me, the Compelled Need to read every new chapter every week almost directly at release BTW the possible High of Naruto is the latest chapter where that Dick-wad Sasuke got his EYES (seemingly) torn out by his brother, and i think it serves him the fuck right. Naruto is an anime to suffer from Misrepresentation and DBZ Character Syndrome Sorry for Ranting i guess, i didn't mean to talk this long Btw i use Onemanga for my Scanlation needs (due to the scarcity of Manga in Australia) its a Very big and good site, although sometimes due to switching Scanlators Series become Inconsistant (Iron Clock to Aeon Clock in Air Gear) Oh yeah Air Gear, Another Good one |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 816 Joined: 19 Dec 2007 | Great anime? Well, when I was nine years old, I watched Teknoman (The dubbed version of Tekkaman Blade). Nine years later, and having been reintroduced to anime via Naruto, I rediscovered that part of my past. Other than that? Vandread earns a mention for some nice "Gattai!" scenes, but the cake is truly taken by Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. That entire series is one huge Gattai sequence, and quite possibly the most epic anime ever. It's so much fun to watch. When it comes to manga, however, I must say I'm becoming a bit of an Adachi fan. Rough was a nice find, but now that I'm moving onto Touch I find myself saying "Wait, wasn't he in Rough?" It's like he's the male version of Rumiko Takahashi, churning out the same things over and over again. At least he doesn't stretch things on and on and on until they end without an actual conclusion, though. I remember Maison Ikkoku quite vividly. "Oh no! I haven't advanced the plot at all! Now it's time for my customary ending and it's coming so fast it looks like a train wreck! Theygetmarriedbye!" |

You watched all of Naruto just to argue that is sucks? WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? Furthermore, Detective Conan Came out as an anime in Canadia, as "Case closed". And it was one of the most awesomest things I've ever seen. I love how it's like one of those 5 minute mystery, where you keep thinking about who dunnit, and see if you we're right. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 391 Joined: 31 Oct 2007 | Berserk, ok it's definitely getting old now but it's just such a good story and dark as anything. also wolfs rain, samurai 7, hellsing, gungrave, trigun, ghost in the shell (and the second series and all the films), full metal panic, full metal alchemist, naruto, bleach, last exile, blue gender, pretty much all the gundam's, evangelion, texhnolyze, Samurai deeper kyo, ninja scroll, rurouni kenshin, witch hunter robin, monster, black jack, i got a load more but that's all i can think of off the top of my head, i don't watch it as much now s i used too which is a shame but my ex was really into it too so i always used to be able to sit down and watch it with her whereas most girls i see don't really appreciate that sorta thing |

Very fond of Leiji Matsumoto, Kiyohiko Azuma, Hayao Miyazaki, Koichi Ohata , and of course Takashi Watanabe's tv adaptation of Hajime Kanzaka's "Slayers"... Movies that are a MUST-SEE Series that are a MUST-SEE

Any of the Gundam series, I loved One Piece untill the voice changes ruined it for me(I'm in america, dont know if they changed anywhere else). Rurouni Kenshin (untill they left the main village, I missed a couple episodes after that and all was lost). Also, anyone remember Outlaw Star? Awsome series, too bad it got dumped after 20-somthing episodes. |
Muckraker Posts: 289 Joined: 22 Dec 2007 | Naruto is okay, if only to see the cool ass ninja powers, and to watch that idiot Sasuke get what's comin'. Oh and don't forget about stuff like .hack//sign. I'm watching the series via subs, and it's okay, if not irritatingly deprived of good action sequences. Wait Excel Saga! Gotta love Excel saga.... Everything was alright untile "Martian Successor Nadesico", seriously - didn't you see anything better from the "Space Opera" genre? "Those Who Hunt Elves" - Did you see the second season? "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" - You mean SAC I, SAC II or Solid State?
That's pretty strange because I watched the whole series=26ep. and by my standards it's "Acceptable". |

Nadesico's actually a damn fine show, with plenty of fourth-wall humor and a really great crew. It's not the best space-based show out there, but it's a damn good show. Yes I've seen the second season of Those Who Hunt Elves. Combine the first and second season, and you have a wicked show I wish never ended. My exposure to Stand Alone Complex is the Laughing Man box set, which is bits from both 1st and second gig. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 52 Joined: 31 Jan 2008 | I don't really have a favorite genre. I chiefly am into character design. I saw a little of Trigun and Hellsing and liked them both. I also so all of Excel Saga and a few episodes of Bobo bo and liked those too. At the moment, I'm considering FLCL. Also I heard about Jump Ultimate Stars! That looks completely awesome. |
Paperboy Posts: 14 Joined: 11 Dec 2007 | First off... manga > anime 90% of the time =) 10. Samurai Champloo I've had mixtures of likes and dislikes. I'm not a big fan of the fighters, but Budokai and the Naruto games aren't half bad. Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, One Piece, Rozen Maiden (GOD! Worst Game I've ever played) and Samurai Champloo were all pretty bad .Full Metal Alchemist was OKAY... nothing special nothing horribly wrong. Berserk was fun on the PS2 (though it needed an American adaptation and I wish they'd still make Trigun... I was kinda hoping that would turn out awesome. Also... I'm gonna admit something: The first Digimon game that was released on the original Playstation was so much fun. LOL, it may sound lame but it had so many enjoyable traits to it. Addictive RPG elements mostly. |
Beat Writer Posts: 186 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | I'm not nearly as much into anime and manga as I used to be at the old age of 25. Bleach is light on story but heavy on the fighting, and that's fine. Naruto is the same. I lost interest in Berserk because late into the story, I was beginning to wonder if the story was really going anywhere. One Piece is just light hearted fun. Shinchan is just genius. I know it's dubbed and the script has been changed, I don't care. Full Metal Alchemist can get a little too idealistic at times, but it's still great to follow. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2160 Joined: 14 Nov 2007 | Princess Mononoke is an amazing film. Saw it on Film4 and have been meaning to get the DVD. And Cowboy Bebop probs has the best dubbing of any anime (in my opinion it''s actually better than the original voice track). :) |

actually i read it, I would never actually watch the filler Crap, and look honestly i was expecting to see what everyone was ranting about, but Kishimoto dropped the ball a long time ago, around the time his assistants told him "Naruto alone with Kakashi as a sensei is a bad idea, lets introduce the Konoha 11" not to mention the entire Plot revolves around sasuke now the thing i love about One Piece for instance, is how the overall plot is the Same as it was when it started 'Gather at least 10 crewmates, sail through the Grand Line, find Raftel and Gol D. Rogers Treasure, have the crew fulfill there dream, Fight Marines' for the entire series, the Sub plots for each arc have been Interesting, the Fights have not been mere repeats, cause the characters mix it up instead of using the same 5 moves over and over. Cowboy Bebop was just... each episode was a sole story (with an exception of a few) it was interesting, funny, the soundtrack was awesome, the characters were lovable, it was one of the best Anime ever. and yes Detective Conan/ Cased Closed is a Very AWESOME Anime/Manga, i prefer the manga myself but thats because this isn't an Action Anime so the transition isn't to different, also yes i love the mystery case feel (although its 638 chapters in and still not over) Berserk is one i seriously recommend, its an Adults Manga (not meaning it's porn, its just not for kids) and well... read it if you want, you shouldn't be dissapointed |

Now I dunno how many of you are anime fans, personally I highly respect a number of shows/movies (Death Note, Samurai Champloo, Tekkon Kinkreet) but am kinda retarded when it comes to the new/obscure stuff. So I wanted to know what you guys like.
Also, whataya all think about games made after shows. I happened to have loved Budokai but then again, that's chiefly cus I was a fan. I always felt they never really captured the feel of the show (anyone play the samurai jack video game? How was that?)
I also am to believe that there is a Death Note game on the DS. Apparently, it plays like the party game Mafia but I am left wondering how they do that with 2 people max.
