That is why you are so awesome. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3252 Joined: 8 May 2008 | I don't know, I rather like the half insane Yahtzee in Anarchemetis, and the "!!1", though sarcastic, may not be seen that way to others not familiar with the site. Virgil's escapist is smaller and more crisp, the pants on head retard is funny, but the movement is unnecesary. It's a toss up. |

I've seen some terrible posts with people calling each other 'doushbags' swearing, attacking an Escapist Staff, and yet they get 3 to 7 days banning. What the hell? I thought we didn't tollerate that kind of nonsense here. |

I tried to do that with the Ace Combat RP, but since one of my guys dropped, I have to fill in as some NPC target practice...
And yeah, what he said... User was banned for: Ipod Saves Girl's Life. (Permanent) |

Sorry about that. Sknaht for the tip, Virgil, I'll keep working on my Photoshop skills. ;) |
BANNED Posts: 5167 Joined: 26 Feb 2008 | No problem, Anarchemitis, I was just hoping to let you guys run off and do your missions, but I don't MIND playing, that is why I gave you guys the option of targeting my AWACS. If I didn't want you to attack me, I would have made the AWACS off limits... User was banned for: Ipod Saves Girl's Life. (Permanent) |

Bigger forums call for different kinds of moderation. We attract a lot of people who don't 'get it' when they first get here; that's why we give them a couple chances to act like rational adults before we give them the permaboot.
Don't know, I am sure our wikipedia page would like to know as well.
Question belongs in the 'Roleplaying Guidelines' thread, no?
It's easier just to wait till the thread reaches critical mass and answer questions at one time. |

Oh, of course, I agree. But some lines have to be drawn. Not to argue, you guys do a great job, though some people would strike me as the few that would have gotten booten out the door without a backward glance. Say, how about stepping up 3 day bans? They're a little weak for those few that swear and carry on. The fanboy in Susan's PS3 date thread looked as if he could have been given harsher treatment. Bah, but that's my 5 cents. 5 cents doesn't go anywhere now days. You need 20, or at least a 10 cent coin... /trailing off. |

If you have a complaint about a specific user, the best thing to do is contact a moderator or staff member through pm or email and let them know 'what's up.' We don't get reports unless more than one person reports it. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 413 Joined: 6 Dec 2007 | I can understand the staff's viewpoint. The place where I currently staff has recently received a huge upsurge of readership. Because of the fact that we want to have good quality discussion, we're at a critical time where we have to show people what our vision for community is, yet we also don't want to drive people away. So we're utilizing not just using "warning first, ban later", but also getting the community to participate by helping us report posts and educate users on proper behavior. Your mods are never going to catch everything, and a community feels more invested to participate in a forum if they themselves take a little ownership of it. It's been ok so far, but there are a couple milestones which will really test our staff of 30. My question for the moderators is, what's your motivation for being a moderator? Do you have an ideal you are sticking to? Have something invested in the site? Just a masochist or insane? I'd be interested to hear. |

I had no interest in moderating at first, the position was foisted on me at another smaller site. I did a good job and learned a lot about internet community. About half-way through my 'internship' at that other site I watched a video from somethingawful about the internet and communities. After watching it I became very interested in what turns random strangers into a community. Since then I have spent my time studying studying some sort of made-up 'internet anthropology.' I came to this site expecting nothing, I had been off the moderator track for about half a year. I came here and found several very smart funny people that I wanted to get to know better. People like Gigantor, Joe, and Russ. As the forum got bigger the quality of posts was diminishing, especially on weekends when the staff wasn't around. I explained my qualifications to Joe and offered to keep the weaker posts in check. About three months later he brought me on-board when it became obvious that more moderation was going to be necessary due to the amount and nature of the ever-increasing ZP fans. Personal motivation for moderating is keeping this site from becoming something I don't like to read anymore. I have a lot invested in this site myself. I have a lot of friends (and a few enemies) here. In the end it's about accomplishment. I want to be able to look back and say "Wow, that site is better because of me." I truly hope that day comes. |

Never given any thought to it, and I don't see that many questions about the forums being asked to warrant a new forum when a single thread will do. |

Generally the people who become moderators are people who have avoided doing things that would get them banned. When the ban removal tool came online I did test it on myself to test the functionality and see the message it sent. Technically, yes, moderators can get banned. |

I like Anarchemitis' Could the mods start coming down heavier on people? Normally someone that just posts "lol" get's banned, but some people have been getting away with it. |
