free-running+the occasional(or more frequent)stab in the face of a random enemy=PRINCE OF PERSIA. Which is awesome. try putting double sided duct tape on your shoes.
I'm into this kind of thing, more Parkour than Free-running though. I like the whole 'always improve, look after your body, practice in the safest possible way' philosophy of Parkour. Actually, just the fact that Parkour has a philosophy of sorts is what drew me to it over the more 'energetic showboating' of free-running.
I voted "insane", but for all the right reasons. That stuff is awesome.
Totally awesome, wish I could do it.
I hate running... | |
I love free-running was almost hit the other day by a car backing up, lol.
I voted insane...but in a good way. I love free running...but there isn't much to climb where I live so its mostly trees and then people call me a squirrel...
I used to free run but back in october I hurt my knee going up a flight of concrete stairs (slipped thanks to a piece of garbage on the top step) and I came down right on the knee cap, I've walked with a slight limp since and it hurts if I run or put to much pressure on it for too long. I still think its a fun thing to do though.
Can someone explain this to me?
I'll let David Belle do the explaining: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTyWfbvX0xQ
I'm more of a 'running through the woods gentleman' myself. However if I could get some more energy and get my weight down, you know I'd be going Prince of Persia up and down this hizzouse.
makes for good youtube videos
I voted insane because free running and i have a love-hate relationship. Everything was all good and well until some random pedestrian saw me on the roof of my nearest tall building, then called the cops, no doubt thinking i was suicidal or had a rifle in my hands.
I like it but I heard from a gymnast friend that most free-runners end up with bung knees before they learn how to fall properly. Which doesn't take away from free-running- I like it a lot.
Wicked cool stuff. Amazing what a human can do when he puts his mind to it. What's Parkour, Whitto?
A few of my friends do it but I generally stay out of it. Good fun though.
i voted good, it looks cool. But my mind still flags a big fat why whenever i see it.
I love it, there was a fantastic documentary on a form of free running/ parkour called yamakasi in france. You should all watch it. In fact: It explains the why at least for this town and is truly amazing.
Sure, I'm all for it. By the way, you know what character I think could benefit from free running in his games? Sonic the Hedgehog.
It does look cool, but seing people do really dangerous things just for an adrenaline kick do make me rather pissed of.
Lol yea Sonic would be a great free runner but the cool climby stuff may slow the game thus destroying the feel.
I personally enjoy it quite a bit. Well, parkour anyways. I don't really do much, but I got the basics down. Besides, it's boring to just walk home. =P
I was into it but I never had any good place to practice.. Now im too unfit
To the layman, Parkour and Free-running are indistinguishable, however the two disciplines have different ideas behind them. Free-running seems to be about showing off, running about doing somersaults and back-flips etc. Parkour on the other hand is a physical discipline more akin to a martial art or yoga than an extreme sport, in that practitioners (known as Traceurs) are encouraged to start very small, and train movement repeatedly in order to strengthen the body to be ready for the kind of extreme movements that are now so ubiquitous in adverts and films. In brief, the two philosophies can be summed up thusly: Imagine there is an obstacle in your path, the Traceur attempts to traverse it with efficiency of movement, I prefer Parkour because of it's measured, careful approach, of all the people I have trained with, it always seems to be the 'Free-running' types that get injured, the people that laugh at me repeating a five-foot hop 20 or 30 times, while they are throwing themselves off roofs and the like. I'm the one laughing though, cos I've yet to be injured.
Edit your post to say what it is, its just out of memory, I know I've heard it before.
Slate Roofs? Damn. There are some fences near where I live, that's mostly what I jump over. I'm not that athletic though.
Good - I used to involve myself in it fairly frequently and enjoyed it a lot.
The child in me is saying it's cool and the adult in me wants to smack you all upside the head and tell you your gonna break your neck....Oh, how the tides have turned.
and that makes the woman in me want to do dirty, dirty things to that guy in the video...lol >.<' Though if it wasn't clear, I voted stupid.
its impressive, but it just sounds so up its own ass to call it "free running" guess gymnastics wasnt tough enough to the ears or something.
I know a guy who does "free running"-- it's pretty impressive at times.
What he said. | |
Where i now live in the north of england, Parkour and Free-Running are the same but the phrase Parkour is then by your standerds what i do, its not about showing of it is like a step up from Gymnastics, which i used to do.
Hehe you would have to catch me first XD
as with martial arts, guns remove the impressiveness of such skills. Sorry, couldn't resist.
What ? i don't understand?

Does anyone else engage in this fun sport?
What do you think of it? of the people who do it?
I do it as a hobby and it is fairly easy, (he says sitting here with a broken leg *shakes fist at foolish drivers*) I was wondering if anyone had anytips or advice for trying to get across slate roofs because i have to bypass them ATM and it would be so much easyier to just go over them.
