Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 999 Joined: 22 Aug 2006 | I have a lot of nervous habits... Oral fixation: touching my mouth or teeth in a repeating pattern (often gradually increasing in speed), or just having my hand on or around my mouth. Taking my watch on and off (doing/un-doing the clasp), spinning it in my hands, twirling it (ditto with my ring, and my glasses; must have something to occupy my hands, particularly when talking, listening, concentrating, etc). Lacking a watch, my ring, glasses, keys, or a pen, I will play patterns on my fingertips between my forefingers and thumbs. Hands... must.. be... OCCUPIED! As they say, idle hands... Spitting into the tub when turning on the faucet for a shower (I have no idea how this got started, or what the point is, but I often find myself doing it unconsciously, and I've made a concerted effort NOT to do it, with some success. Potentially a somewhat-conditioned response to the thought of the taste of soap?) |

Muckraker Posts: 235 Joined: 4 Aug 2008 | I run my hands through my hair or play with it when I'm tired/bored. I don't know of any nervous tells I have, but I don't often find myself being very nervous. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 69 Joined: 14 Nov 2007 | I have a deformity in both my shoulder blades that cause them to make very audible clicking noises; and of course since I love the sound for some reason I'll make them click over and over again when I zone out. Apparently I'm the only person that doesn't find it gross judging by some of the looks I've gotten. I also run my fingers through my beard a lot when I'm bored. (I most likely do this because subconsciously I believe birds may have tried to nest while I wasn't looking.) |

Muckraker Posts: 235 Joined: 4 Aug 2008 | Oh, my girlfriend has a funny one. She actually braids her hair over and over and over when she's bored or just spacing out or well, most of the time. At the end of a long movie all of her hair will be braided at least two or three times over. |
Beat Writer Posts: 185 Joined: 12 Jun 2008 | I "twirl" my hair when I'm thinking hard, or bored or agitated. Thing is...I'm black and have hair coarse enough that the twirls kind of...stick around. After a bad day at work, I look... ... ...well, it's somewhere between "interesting" and "crazy"... |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 594 Joined: 26 May 2008 | I repeatedly bob my foot when I'm anxious, and do a lot of scratching when I'm nervous. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3607 Joined: 8 Dec 2007 | I rub my goatee beard, straighten my mustache and crack my knuckles. Three barely noticeable habits that combine into... a hardly noticeable set. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1446 Joined: 7 May 2008 | I always walk barefoot at home. Whenever I am holding a sharp object I just have to impale it on the nearest expendable wooden object. I crack my knuckles when I'm not with my dad (he smacks me when I do). When I'm bored I start tapping my fingers on my desk really loudly. I can do entire drumsolos. I'm a fucking freak. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1374 Joined: 12 Sep 2007 | I tend to tap my feet in rapid patterns when I'm engrossed in something, especially if it's something that pisses me off (say, a particular government outrage.) And I play with my beard a lot. Another weird habit, if I see things that almost line up (say, light poles along a road) I have to move my head or my body to make them line up. I have stopped doing that whilst driving, though. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 73 Joined: 4 Aug 2008 | I gots them tourrettes so i do lots of stuff. I crack my knuckles, neck, back, wrists, fingers, toes and ankles. my mouth...twitches and my neck tenses. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1225 Joined: 13 Dec 2007 | Whenever I'm about to do some kind of self-motivated exercise, like running, I burp. Whenever I pull out my wallet (with my left hand) I lightly smack the palm of my right hand with it, grabbing it with the right hand in the process. Sometimes when I finish doing an exercise in which I'm sitting or laying down, I jump to my feet. Sometimes when I'm going down a set of stairs I jump when I'm at the 3rd or 4th step from the bottom. |

I think my habit is pretty cool...not really. I used to bit my fingers nails so much it got pretty bad, so I stopped doing that. Upon ending that habit, I created a new one, biting my finger tips, and eating little pieces of skin. It sounds grosser then it really is... |

I used to do the same when I was 12 or so...but my skin on my finger tips started to get hard, so I stopped (And it hurt to pick things up). I still chew on my lips though. |

Yeah, thats what I do. What makes some people think its weird is that I'm a vegetarian. But realistically, since the animal donated the meat willingly (the animal being me) I'm fine with eating it. User was banned for: Poll: What is your opinion on the Metal Gear Solid storylines?. (Permanent) |

I personally have a habbit of touching my ears, specifically the jagged tips on the top of your ears. I touch them every time I'm nervous, bored, fidgetty, sad, and some other emotions. I can't help it, in one of my home movies you can see me touching my ears the whole time when my Aunt is giving a speech.
Any habits you have? Wether it be tapping your foot or licking your elbow(?), are there any habits you just can't break?
