Gone Gonzo Posts: 1664 Joined: 9 Aug 2008 | I have nothing against a moderate, relaxed usage of marijuana. Its alot more natural than drinking alcohol, and people have been doing it for a very, very, very loooong time. I don't see the big issue. The only reason their is a negative stigma to it is because in America, it is illegal. This is due to the government, at first, trying to stick it to early Mexican immigrants in the early 1920s, and then later on once they realized that they couldn't profit off of it since it can be grown so easily in the wild and domestically. So people who are assosciated with illegal activities are associated with marijuana. However, the average pot smoker is a very normal person. Some of my best friends smoke marijuana. Some regularly, some occasionally. I've shot-gunned it before, but I can no longer do that due to military drug testing. Its possibly the most harmless mind altering drug there is when used in moderation. I knew some people who did it far too much, but these people also did pills and other drugs along with it, so that may be a factor. Or possibly their home lives. But it holds no more dangers to it than alcohol or cigarettes, and I don't think there should be any stigma about it. Atleast any more stigma than those two things. Its not like cocaine or heroine where you can O.D. and die from it instantly, it doesn't destroy your mind (anymore than a beer) so really, I have no problem with it being used. I probably would use it if it were legal. Alas, though, I cannot or I am out of college money and a job.

I'd argue that it holds far fewer dangers than either of those.
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1664 Joined: 9 Aug 2008 |
Indeed. Atleast potheads are to lazy to get into a bar fight or try to drive.

All pot heads want to do is really just play video games and eat. So I see no threat to be honest.

Seriously. That's all that some of my friends do when they are high. They smoke a bowl and they get on Call of Duty 4. Every time. My best friend is a casual pot smoker and he's on his University's body building team, works out constantly, and takes like, dietary supplements (ironically while pursuing a criminal justice degree to become a U.S. Marshal). So he pretty much disperses the stereotype of pot smokers being lazy, fat slobs who only smoke pot and never amount to anything. He did tell me a funny story about how he got high and watched "A Clockwork Orange" and was tripping out really hard.

True enough. Of course, I'm still able to drive quite well while high. And the only fight I've ever gotten into while high was a tickle fight.

And yes, you feel like you laugh to everything that is said and to be honest...it's frikin cool! Thumbs up for this harmless and legal drug.

Weed has nothing to do with people flunking or wasting their time on MMO's, that's all about personal values and choices. PS: No, I don't flunk classes nor waste my time on MMO's.

Sorry, thats not my experience. I've known plenty of people flunk out because all they wanted to do was smoke weed.

I seriously doubt that weed was the motivator in that situation. A flunkie's a flunkie, regardless of what he does in his spare time.

Really? It seems to go hand in hand too often to be just down to that, especially since many of them started out as grade A students, very intelligent etc.

Anonymous Source Posts: 7 Joined: 18 Jul 2008 | Speaking under the anonymity of the internet I have grown up around weed. I have lived in a house where there is constantly the smell of the sweet sticky substance in the air. I am a perfectly normal individual. I am not dumb, I am not a stoner, but it has been around me my whole life I can see how it can cause people to do strange things, but it is relatively harmless even compared to other legal substances. (I'm looking at you alcohol). Just putting that out there.

Then I started smoking and ruined all that. Currently a 4.0 at OSU no longer feeling the effects of ADD or my rheumatoid arthritis. Also harvard medical has released a study on its potential benifits on reducing, preventing, and possibly curing cancer. this guy makes a better argument. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7566935841060108797&ei=h7urSKK5NZKuiwKLz7n-CA&q=irv+rosenfeld+testify&vt=lf But to be honest I almost did not post because facts do not fight ignorance, oh well at least I can enjoy my life despite the looming threat of jail time. Wow, that is completely right. Now that you say of that, I can totally seeing it happen if weed is legalized. No one has ever mentioned it so I didn't think of it. But after you said that, I do think weed shouldn't be legalized after reading that. Unless somehow we control the big companies from not selling it. Or just buying it from other people, not the big companies.
Ok, you just gave another good reason it shouldn't be legalized....That would happen to A LOT of people. Mostly all the teenagers who smoke weed now. They won't finish school and just go on playing WoW or any other MMORPG they play. They'll never get a job and end up bumming off there mom. Not a good thing.
