I can't say I'm into all this new age anime lark. Samurai Champloo is about as modern as I get nowadays. But with that...

Vash the Stampede; though he is a huge parody of the old gun slinging anti-hero archetype, I felt his shortcomings made him a little more human than most characters.

Spike Spiegel; He is the very definition of cool. Even with that silly hair.

Briareos Hecatonchires; because ex-human cyborgs with bunny ears are always cool when you're 5 years old.

I don't watch much anime, but out of the series I've seen Piccolo is kick ass from Dragonball/Z/GT.

*laughs*

Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho is the most magnificent man to ever bless the screen of anime, btw. I don't care what anyone says. That is not a joke, Kuwabara is the coolest motherfucker from that show. Hiei, emo goth punk... Kurama? Gay. Yusuke? Typical main character punk. Kuwabara? Awesome. And he bones Hiei's sister.

Huh? Whats funny?

I know the characters from Dragonball aren't exactly brilliant, but I've only seen bits of it and Piccolo struck me as one of the better ones.

Sorry, its just Picollo is everyone's favorite character "at first" until he is suprassed in power by just about every other major character.

Oh no I've seen a enough of it to know that Goku and Vegeta are way stronger than him but I just think he's a better character then them both and has a little more depth to him. And the only fight I've seen him in was really cool.

Soubi from Loveless.

Poor, poor screwed up, masochistic, hot, lonely Soubi...

The way that Ritsuka is both a child and someone who is so mature in such terrible family and strange, hostile situations is amazing.

Yuuko in xxxHolic is extremely enigmatic - when you learn why she seems so selfish its such a strong moment, and you realise how unselfish it really was. Plus Watanuki flipping out always makes me laugh (it also gives me a headache, but you can't have everything)

Ha! Yea that one's pretty sweet like. Think my favourites were the cards one and the ending 2 parter where it all culminated in Dante just laughing at that ultimate demon thing.

Batou, second fiddle to Kusanagi in the various Ghost in the Shell titles.
Close second is Ein from Cowboy Bebop.
Honrable mention goes to Spike, from the same. He would've gotten second place if

Ah gotta say, in spite of my love for everything DMC and DMC4 on the 360, I'm not a huge fan of Nero's character (even though it was bloody good fun playing as him). Think Yahtzee did sum him up about right with just "pussy whipped". I'd much rather see a storyline including Vergil from DMC3, the katana wielding bad ass that he is.

Although what am I saying; if they made another series I'd buy it regardless of who else was in it because Dante is just too damn cool.

Lupin III (Lupin III) - He's pretty much the guy every man wants to be. He's cool in tight situations, he's suave with the ladies, and he's utterly confident, no matter what the odds. Also, what a sweet blazer. = 3=

Goku (Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT) - What's not to like? He's an amiable, unintentionally funny guy who doesn't take life too seriously. When shit starts to go down, though, he's ready for a fight, and he's ready to win.

Kazuma Kuwabara (Yu Yu Hakusho) - I honestly don't know why his character appeals to me. I guess I just like the idea of a guy who'll never give up, no matter how many times he's beaten.

Osaka (Azumanga Daioh) - Not really sure how to describe it. She spaces out all the time, and it's just hilarious. o.e

My absolute favourite anime character would be without a doubt Beyond the Grave/Brandon Heat from Gungrave. It's true that he was a video game character before he was an anime one, but he has an actual personality in the anime rather than being an unstoppable Mobster Zombie Cowboy badarse, which he still is.

Second on the list would probably be Alita/Gally from Battle Angel Alita/GUNNM. There is an anime of GUNNM, but the manga is a lot better and she rocks so damn much in it. The only cyborg chick I actual like, and that is likeable (in my opinion).

Third would have to be Mikan from Air Gear. She's a stereotypical cute tomboy, but she is also incredibly awesome as well.

Fourth on the list is Yoruichi from Bleach. Playful, smart, powerful and incredibly hot. She is the whole package.

Considering its practically a law that every anime gets Rule 34'd, I'm just going to start off with actual hentai characters to save time.

MOST of the cast of Secret Plot/Deep: Horny school teachers doing strangely reluctant male students is by no means anything new right along with impractically big-breasted ninjas and completely feminine schoolgirls that just so happened to be hung like Tommy Lee, BUT SP stands out from the rest as without the sex there's actually, get this, A STORY. (weird I know.) The main guy Masaki may be disproportionate, but at least his initial wussiness is explained by growing up without any who actually loves him (parents don't care so long as he keeps his grades up) and shows testicular fortitude instead of just his testicles when he demands to know how one of the teachers truly feel about him then (accidentally) throws her on her head, giving her amnesia.

As for said teachers, its not fully explored, but the best guess as to why they don't date guys their own age (Miki's supposedly 35, but you know how reliable anime ages are) is the control issue as they're pretty much always the dominant ones in relationships whether its the crossdresser (DON'T look at those issues) or bless them, THE FAT KID who isn't comically large, just not the beanpoles like the rest of the cast. The teachers seem to have lives outside of boy-hunting from going to the beach to showing off some judo moves instead of revolving around classes as most titles would.

I will say and not just for the sake of the bandwagon that Mugen from Samurai Champloo is also a favorite because he's a thug in the middle of Ancient Japan instead of the usual androgynous samurai (Kenshin) or generic stoic guy that only cares about getting stronger and ignoring women (take your pick, but I'll say Goku as an example.)

Lelouch from Code Geass. It's so awesome to say, Le-LOU-sh. Rolls off the tounge, Le-LOUC-sh.

Also Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemeist, a good character IMO.

EDIT: OoOoOhOhOh!! I see X3heartless likes Code Geass to! WOO, we're not alone!

Mello, L and Light from Death Note.
I always take a keen interest in strong and interesting characters, especially those whom I can empathise with (Mello in this case when he's always second best to Near and when he lets his emotions get the better of his intelligent mind.) ^ ^
Though it's not exactly fair for me to pick favourites from Death Note since I thought all it's characters in the Anime, Films and Manga were excellent.

Protoman. Bow down to the awesomeness.

I would mention the Mad King of Omashu or Iroh from Avatar, but I don't think it counts as anime.
